Buy this, a sweet Class 10 SDXC card, and 2-3 batteries; then LOVE it!

I very much like this camera. Takes great photos, the flash is more powerful than I thought it would be, and with the larger sensor size it gives you more flexibility to NOT use the flash in many situations.

The only weakness is the battery life. Buy yourself 2 or 3 batteries because this boy chews through them like butter. Well worth it though with the cameras features, speed, and quality in my opinion.

Great picture taking camera at a small size, yet professional grade.

This is a professional quality picture taking camera at a small price. I purchased this camera for skiing. I have a professional Canon, but too large to lug around the mountain.
The S100 can do it all, it can take a nice quality picture and video. The controls are easy to use and you have multiple options for the controls.

The camera is a size that it can fit nicely in my chest pocket and pull it out for pictures easy. It also has a nice size lanyard for your wrist and making it secure.

The zoom is quick and very responsive and easy to use to focus. Depending on what you are shooting there are a lot of pre-set conditions for all types of pictures. You just have to take some time reading the manual and finding out where all the funtions are.

I have not been outside yet with the camera, the weekend I got it, I also got a cold and the cold beat me up. I will use this soon and from everything I have seen and used inside so far is such a pleasure.

I am just amazed at the size, options and quality of the pictures. One of the first pictures I took was a miniture rose bush that I got my wife for Valentine's Day. I showed my wife the picture and she thought it was from my large Canon. She was totally surprised when I told her it was from the new small camera.

I am excited with the new purchase and look forward in taking a lot of pictures in the future. Especially on the slopes, will be the primary use at first this winter.

I love it so far and the reviews I read don't do it justice. An incredible small camera with big positive picture taking.

Compared to the little Vivitar I have been using for the skiing pictures, this new one is not even in the same league. The sample shots have been amazing.

Great Camera for E-Commerce Pictures.

I have been using this camera since 2012 for taking pictures of items that I list on eBay, Amazon, Etsy and other sites. Pictures come out great and need very little editing. Wonderful color. I usually only have to adjust the purples. Just the right amount of pixels. Manual or automatic. I would definitely purchase another S100 immediately if something were to happen to the one that I have now.Read full review...

Great vacation camera due to small size, but will do well for good artistic photos, too

This is a great camera for general vacation use and walking around. In a pinch, you can get really good artistic photos, too. It has a lot of capabilities for adjusting settings, including Tv, Av, and full Manual mode, and it will record a RAW image if you select it. The sensor is a little bit larger than those on most similar-sized cameras. The camera is also heavier and obviously a high-quality product. The shell is metal. The buttons and dials all have nice feel to them. I have the S100 in my pocket on our vacations, and on general walks. It only has 5X optical zoom, but that's usually enough for snapshots and general use, but it wouldn't be a good camera for taking photos of birds or wildlife that is far away. I'll often stop to take a close-up of a flower or something, and it works great for that with a macro mode. It has a built-in pop-up flash that is covered unless it pops up, and it does a great job for fill-in flash of a person against a bright background. The S110 that replaced it is very similar but has a touch screen and Wi-Fi, if that is important. To me they are about the same.Read full review...

Very nice point and shoot

Camera is very nice. It's very small and had all of the manual features I was looking for especially shooting in raw. I wish the images could be a little sharper but I have to remember that it is a point and shoot and not my slr, that's the main reason I want the raw so I can clean them up a bit in editing Read full review...

Favorite of all pocket cameras ever made.

My favorite pocket camera. Have owned many pocket cameras. From Canon I use two S100 and a G12, and have had the S95 and G9. Prefer the S100 over the newer S110 and S120. Let me compare: The S100 is faster at all function than was the S95. It has half the shutter lag of the S110. S120 is fast but has an expensive touch screen, unnecessary and detrimental to preserving settings while handling camera. S120 screen also has twice the resolution, but for framing photos in the field this added resolution is a waste of technology and money. Value of S100 when purchased second hand and factory refurbished is excellent. My basic requirements for a pocket camera are that it can shoot in RAW, has control of aperture, shutter, and ISO without entering menu, that lens be superb and capable of close focus. Few manufacturers other than Canon have any cameras meeting these criteria, and the S100 is the smallest to do so.Read full review...

One of the best cheaply priced (today) point and shoots

Though it's not the newest PowerShot on the market, this is a great little camera, and I'd go so far as to say it's probably the best value for quality point and shoot you can buy today. This is my first camera and the money I spent for it was well worth it, in my opinion. I don't have the money to shell out on a new DSLR or even a newer powershot, but the image quality of the S100 is superb, and I'm more than happy with what I got out of the money I spent.

Video quality (up to 1080p30) is crisp, and image quality is excellent. It's also great at macro shots.

As far as the microphone goes - the mic isn't very good and there's no hookup for an external one, being a little point and shoot, but it's not completely horrible, either. Just don't expect great audio quality out of it, especially in a windy environment. I'd get a handy recorder or something of that nature and take the time to sync the audio in post production if you're looking for great audio quality.

Overall:
- You can get these things for super cheap these days and still get great photo quality
- Image quality is great for a point and shoot
- Video quality is good, nice and crisp
- Don't rely on the onboard microphone to produce great audio - also beware, no microphone jack
- Has lots of features I didn't expect to come with a small camera

I attached some photos I took with my S100 as examples. If you're looking to buy a good camera to start off on for cheap, I highly recommend going for an S100.

This camera is easy to use compared to a previously purchased Nikon P600 and the overall image quality is better considering it has less zoom.

Many manual controls and full of features in a very small camera! Love the ease of use except the flash has to be turned on in order for it to pop up and seemingly is in a poor location where your finger usually would rest on top. The camera offers higher than average ISO up to 6400 and consistently maintains less noise or grain in photos safely still usable up to around 800 ISO setting. Higher ISO can still be achieved at no zoom and no crop! many settings for lighting and exposure manual adjustments. Nice lens dial for quickly adjusting most important settings as well. offering up a nice 1/4000 sec shutter speed will capture most all street photography nicely. Walking, dogs, other animals in motion. Also many features for macro, focus, and multi shooting.Read full review...

Almost the perfect point and shoot.

This is an amazing little camera. Good software, a really wide open lens that takes great photos indoors, and a lot of manual controls. I got it for not-much-money, and I think the S90 and up series are all great buys, but the S100 really hits a sweet spot for features and ease of use.

It's somewhere between a full size camera, and a phone camera, and holding its own against the iPhone 6. As with any camera, quality is really in the hands of the photographer, not the camera, but the S series really gives you some leeway to get sloppy, and still produce an acceptable photo.

The GPS is so-so, but the fact it has one at all is a bonus.

The perfect pocket camera! Couldn't recommend it higher.

I wanted a carry around alternative or supplement to my DSLR. I bought a G12, which I love, but it still wasn't exactly that "pocket" alternative in practice. So I added the S100 and it is perfect. A fine camera, gives superb image quality for its class, has great features, provides good manual adjustment ability and is truly a pocket camera. I love the little thing.

I still like my G12 for differing reasons and uses. Its articulating screen is invaluable for certain situations and it has even more extensive manual adjustment capability. But the S100 is the one that goes with me everywhere.

Great camera.
