Very small, manual settings available

As a professional photographer, I carry this one in my purse in case I see something to shoot and don't have my professional Canon SLRs with me.

I bought it for a family vacation and was pleased with both the stills and short video clips I took - and loved not having to cart around my heavy gear.

It looks like a normal point and shoot, although it has many more features, so it's not a "target" for would-be thieves.

If you shoot a lot, the battery does not last long, so buy 2 extras and carry them with you, along with a charger. During our vacation, the battery would not even last the whole day.

Excellent Image Quality in and Incredible Small Package

For starters I am a Nikon person.. BUT when it comes to P&S Cameras my choices have always been Canon, I had many Nikon,Olympus,Panasonic... but Canon's always has the best image quality over all.

The Canon Powershot S110 does not disappoint, It has a simple look, fit's easy in a pocket, it's super fast to start up (less than 2 seconds!!), strong flash and very smart features.

This model allows you to transfer images to your phone,Ipad or PC without the need for cables all via WiFi. touchscreen is a nice feature but I don't use it much since i still like the little wheel in the back, plus the ring around the lens can be assigned to do different things that suit your needs ( I use it to select between JPG,RAW, or RAW+JPG ) Did I mention it shoots RAW!!?.

Battery life is OK, not great but OK.. I do have multiple batteries that fit this camera ( I had the Canon SX200IS which this replaced and uses the same battery). I will recommend buying a spare or 2.

The body is rough so it does not slip out of your hands but I always wrap the lanyard on my hand just in case ;)

I am happy with the purchase I am sure you will too, the image sensor is larger that the average P&S on the market this also adds to better image quality.

Hoping for the best !

I really like the Canon 110 that I just purchased. Previously, I really like the Canon S100 and used it for several years. A few months ago, the lens on the S100 would not retract and nothing worked on the camera. In checking online, I found that this was a recurring problem with this model. I sent the camera back to Canon, and was told that the repair would run close to $ 200, even though Canon was well aware of the problem, and had repaired many of the other S100 cameras that fell within a range of serial numbers. I declined on the repair and purchased this S110, but I have heard that it also is susceptible to the same problem. So, while I love the camera, it has everything I want in a pocket size model (it shoots in RAW, has a manual mode, easy to do HDR with multiple shots at different exposures, and truly fits in my pocket) I'm just hoping this same problem I had with the S100 doesn't rear its ugly head.Read full review...

The S110 is a stellar pocket camera that can serve as one's ONLY camera!

I already own the S95 and have used it extensively. I bought this one as a gift for my wife. So far she likes it very much. I haven't had my hands on it too much. This is better than the S95 camera in some ways. The function wheel on the rear on this one has better detents and that's far better. The zoom range is somewhat wider (24-120mm) which is great, compared to the S95 (28-105mm). The speed of capturing photos is even faster than the S95 which is already fast for a 7 oz. pocket camera. We were disappointed that Canon had changed the battery type from the S95 because I have about 5 -6 batteries for the S95!

On the plus side, this S110 has built in wi-fi so it can transfer to IOS devices etc on the fly sans cable.

Also on the plus side with this series of cameras is the ability to adjust many functions from the wheel around the lens and the wheel on the rear of the camera. This means far less going into the menus to make often used adjustments that are so necessary for someone who really knows how to take photos. This one feature absolutely separates this series from every other pocket camera I know of at any price!

The S110 has 1080P video with stereo, the S95 has 720p video. In my opinion, 720p is plenty. I've done beautiful video with the S95, the S110 is equal or superior. This isn't a very big deal. The S110 has 12 MP compared to the S95's 10 MP. Again, this means essentially nothing!

Bottom line- This is a secret weapon in the camera world! It has the ability to take photos that are far superior to most cameras of this size. To have this capability in a small, light package like this is unbelievable! I also have a Nikon 7100 w/ many lenses. When reviewing photos that have been transferred into the MacBookPro in Aperture 3, I usually have to review the metadata to see which camera took the picture! This says it all. For all but the extreme shooting situations such as the need for super wide lenses or very difficult low light this camera can rival a top end DSLR. Think about that! Many folks find this hard to believe, but it's true. The S110 is not cheap, but it can perform in a very big way!

Sometimes when out shooting, someone will walk up and say " I have a pocket camera like that!" And I look and say "that's nice." But in reality, most often there's very little comparison between what they're shooting and the S110. To get superior photos, the S110 isn't totally necessary, but it sure makes the journey a lot easier.

Good camera

Bought this camera to use for diving and it really works great. It's fairly easy to use and takes excellent photos underwater with a water proof housing. Even better pictures on land. I would recommend this camera.I use it in auto mode but it has many features available for manual photos also.It has a ring that functions as some type of control that surrounds the lens. Not sure how to use it and the online manual does not really explain it. That is my only complaint. All the functions can be used without the ring control so I don't really care.Read full review...

Excellent image quality and fast enough to take toddler pics

This is one of only a few small point and shoots that are fast enough to keep up with a 2 year old. I usually use my Nikon D7000 with various fast lenses to do the shoots but this does video much better and is unobtrusive.
It is not as fast as a DSLR but it is much faster than your typical $200 camera. It looks good at ISO 1600 and great at 400 and lower. Very few small cameras do as well at ISO above 400 due to the tiny sensor and tiny sensors don't get much light compared to larger sensor DSLRs. I bought one for my Mother new at x-mas and got one used for myself as a second camera when my big DSLR is too much. I take this out to restaurants and get great baby pics while she is interacting with others around her. My DSLR is too big to take along and my 8mp phone camera is so much noisier at even ISO 100 than this is at ISO 1600 plus the Cannon is great with the color rendition and fill flash when needed. I don't need the flash with this in restaurants but do with my phone camera. It does not have a super zoom like others but for every day shots, F2.0 at wide angle is great for low light shoots. The newer S120 is 1/2 stop better at F1.8 but is way more money. This is a great all around camera if you can afford it. I use a 64gb sd card and can record several hours at 720P 30fps plus takes 1000 pics. The video keeps the brightness pretty consistent with changing light and the stereo mic works pretty well. It is slightly lower than I would like but enough for all the audio to be heard.

An excellent point n shoot camera (w/Caveats)

The Canon S110 is a great pocket camera that takes outstanding pictures (with caveats) for the form factor that it is.
It is not a Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera but what it does, it does pretty well. Within the point n shoot class of cameras it does a great many thing very well.

In order to maintain the relative small size the designers have had to remove some features in order to design in new ones.

S90 - CCD sensor, etc.
S95 - f1:2.0 lens, zoom lens 3.8, Digic 4 processor, 10 megapixel CCD sensor
S100 - GPS, ridge on the front & rear of camera, Digic 5 processor, 12.1 megaixel CMOS sensor,
S110 - WiFi, touch screen, 12.1 megaixel CMOS sensor, a better ridge on the rear, ridge absent in the front, f1:2.0 lens, zoom lens 5x
S120 - f1:1.8 lens, touch screen, Digic 6 processor (newer/faster image processor)

Pro
- Small size
- Light weight
- solid build
- photo quality is good not superb.
- Feature rich - can control exposure a great more than with other similar cameras in the same class.
- front surface is rough/not smooth in order to maintain better hold of camera.
- Rear of camera - there is a ridge for one thumb to rest against (right handed person) previous camera do not have this
and if you are holding the camera for any length of time ones thumb can really cramp up.
- Will create RAW files
- Recognizing finger activity/motion on the touch screen is very good.

Con
- The one thing that I would mention up front: If you are a DSLR or a former FSLR user do not expect to get the same response w/r/t the camera taking the picture when you the operator press the shutter button. There will be a (shutter lag) delay of approx. 0.5sec so if you are looking to take sports pictures I would not consider these types of cameras.
- Battery life can be rather short depending what options the user has activated. ex. flash, rear display for long periods of time, display brightness, etc.
- If you have big hands/fingers this camera might not be for you. Reason is that you might be prone to touching the buttons on the rear of the camera & activate processes/functions that you the user did not intend to.
- The WiFi connection is poorly implemented. Not easy for a user to connect to another device, for me a disappointment.

Notes:
- I have a Canon S95 which I find to be a slightly better low light camera w/r/t picture quality.
I am not sure if it is because it has a CCD in the S95 as opposed to the CMOS device in the S110, or the image processor/processing, (hardware/software).
- Autofocus performance has improved over the previous models,
- Photographers who enlarge or heavily crop their photos will likely want to pay more for something like the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 which has a much larger sensor which results in superior quality photos.
- small on/off button smaller than S95 & S100
- buy spare batteries

Great camera in great condition

The S110 was part of a series of Canon pocket cameras with fast lenses and oversized sensors. They have great low light sensitivity. The zoom range is equivalent to about 24 to 120 mm.
This unit is in "like new" condition and everything is working fine so far.Read full review...

Still the best compact camera ever.

I really like this new Camera. I have Canon S95 but this one is much better in Image quality and the Video quality and size is amazingly better.
I have two small complains:
-- The strap band made of a hard material so it is not easy to have it on your hand, which I always do to prevent the accidental dropping.
-- The on/off switch is much harder to reach comparing to S95 which was so easy.

Superb quality.

I love this Camera. It shoots continuous pictures without delay and also really can zoom in on things. The picture quality is very crisp. So happy with my well thought out decision. The only negative I have is minor. The surface of the camera has a sandpaper like feel to it. Grainy. I guess so it doesn' slip from your hands. Its probably to my benefit,I was just surprised by it. But I would definately still have bought this camera had I known it ahead of time.Read full review...
