Well worth the extra expense. An amazing product.

Having bought cheaper non-canon alternatives in the past I can say this is an amazing speedlite. I wish I'd just put my hand in my pocket the first time around. The hotshoe attachment is super easy to use and very quick to get it on and off the camera. The recycle time is great, battery life is great, I've had no problems on auto with flash intensity. I've had good results off camera (using an ettl cable). Well worth the extra money. To get the best results I'd recommend buying the Speedliters Handbook. Canon 580EX-II, Costly but worth it

This product is all they say it is. I admit I have not yet had time to go through its endless functions yet, but straight out of the box and in ETTL, this Flash does wonders all by itself. Fill in and bounce flash are truly giving my pictures a whole new dimension of color and sharpness. It took me about a month to decide I wouls spend what this flash actually costs. I considered a Vivitar (cheaper plastic?), Metz (supposedly good but not AS good) or a Canon 4380EX-II (limitations on the head's swivel). I am glad I decided to spend on the 580EX-II. No regrets: this is a fantastically well built and professional piece of equipment and I anticipate it will bring me many years of enjoyable photography. Minor comment: this is a bulky flash (as you would expect for this type) so if you're looking for something portable for simple amateur photography, you might want to consider Canon's soon-to-be-released 270EX II. Also, the pouch is good but on the downside, has no hooks or places through which you might pass a lace, belt, strap or alike: no way to easily strap it onto my top-load camera pouch.Read full review...

Canon 580EX ii

It's everything everyone says it is...powerful, easy to use and versatile. I've now tested the unit on my G9, G12, 5D, 5D Mark II and am extremely pleased with the results. I've used Fong shaders and PocketWizard Multimax and Plus II with flawless results. The recycle time is good, but I'm looking forward to receiving and testing out my new external battery pack.
This is a pro unit all the way. I know there are other systems out there, but it's hard to imagine a better one than this for the vast majority of shots.

Powerful Flash with Good Flexibility

This flash can operate as a master or slave (used to fire when other flashes fire). It's a powerful flash that provides enough flexibility to reduce the amount of light emitted while the swivel head allows you to change the direction of the bounce light.

I wasn't happy with the recovery time between shots and have added an external battery that allows me to fire continuously. Like many flashes for advanced cameras, this isn't a 'point and shoot' style flash and will take some time to figure out how to use its functions to maximum benefit.Read full review...

Love it

I love the Canon 580exii flash. I'm new to the photography business but I can already tell this was a great investment and that I have the best of the best. It is extremely powerful and has made taking pictures inside incredibly better with my camera. I have a lot more capabilities and more ways to be creative. Great value as a used buy now. A top end Speedlite for chump change!

As a used purchase this makes so much more sense than spending double on a 600EX Speedlite. The only notable difference being the latters abaility to be controlled independently of the camera body. So unless you experiment with complicated flash set ups and are really just looking for a powerful, reliable flash, this fits the bill perfectly.Read full review...

Canon 580 EX II Flash

I bought this flash after buying the 5D Mark II. The flash is a neccessity because 5d does not come with intergrated flash. The flash perform flawlessly and easy to opperate.
