Many uses, high quality images, tough too. Worth every penny.

Canon's L-series classic, this may well be the best wide-angle lens for the money, especially for a full-frame DSLR. I rely on this lens for clarity and sharpness across the entire image, and also expect accurate color rendition and excellent contrast. The range of focal lengths is enough to help with composition, and easily covers interior spaces, group shots and scenics. Very durable and weather resistant as well, so well worth the money.Read full review...

Love it

Great lens with sharp pictures. I shoot landscape photos (f11) so I really haven't seen the fall off people had sad about the corners. I just know my photos have improved dramatically since using this lensRead full review...

Canon 17-40, a great performer

This lens is truly great for landscape and architectural shots on 5D Mark I and I am sure it would be a great performer in crop cameras. I wanted to buy the big brother, 16-35L, f2.8; but that is double the price of canon 17-40. I use this lens mostly outdoor and with high f stop so I don't need a fast lens for outdoor shots. You could use this lens indoors but must increase the ISO which still gives me excellent shots on the 5D.Read full review...

A must have lens.

Great lens. I have both cropped and full frames bodies. On a full frame it is perfect for getting in a whole room or wide landscape with no distortion. On a cropped sensor it is a great walk around or normal lensRead full review...

Perfect lens, Inexpencive for an L lens, Canon Perfection on display!!

As always Canon impresses with perfect glass, This lens is perfect for any wide angle video/photo shoots you're looking to do. It goes in to 40mm making it a nice wide-medium focal length, there is hardly any distortion on the edges and no vignetting! Focus ring is smooth, and auto focus is silent!
I have a Tamron 10-24 and it can't even come close to the quality of this lens!

If you're looking for a nice wide angle lens to add to your kit, you just found it!

I’ll Take this L

My first L lens, so I’m pretty stoked about it, noticed the different versus my original regular 18-55mm kit lens. I mean using the word “better” is an understatement. All around great lens.

Fantastic lens, fantastic value!

Canon's 17-40mm f4 is an excellent value at around $800 new. The images that this piece of glass yields are superb! With an aperture of f4 you can achieve a very smooth out-of-focus background while still retaining excellent sharpness at the point of focus, and at nearly half the price of the
16-35mm f2.8! In my opinion, this lens is actually sharper than the more expensive f2.8 lens. If you are someone looking for a superior lens at a good price to use on either youir 35mm film camera or a digital body, this is definitely a lens you should consider.

Canon 17-40 Review

it’s fairly well priced it’s light it does a pretty good job , more of a walk around lens wide open the edges are not that sharp however, when you bump the f-stop up you’re not wide open it’s a pretty darn good lens . Good value well-made.Read full review...
