Someone at work gave me this movie to watch. I kept it along time before finally viewing it. Because it was an old movie, I didn't think it would hold much interest for me. I finally did put it in the player, and I couldn't stop watching. Much like one of your favorite books that you can't put down, this movie is the same. Excellent movie from long ago. Needless to say, I returned the movie to my friend, and immediately looked on E-Bay for it. There it was!
I think one of my favorite things in the movie is when Spencer Tracy plays the "Hurdy Gurdy". My spelling may be wrong on that. Very interesting musical instrument, and excellent actors. You might notice a much younger JOhn Carradine in this movie, and many more.

A classic movie about a young boy learning what's important in life.

A movie that needs to be seen by any child born with a silver spoon in their mouth, AND their doting parent(s). All top actors of their day in this classic movie contribute to a young boys conscience about coming of age, but more importantly coming to realization what life is, and what a person can "do without". Like any of the old black and white movies, a viewer needs to get by the first 20 minutes to get into the real story. Once this kid falls overboard from "daddy's ocean liner" into the sea and gets picked up by a fishing boat...that's when it gets good. Highly recommended classic movie for all ages.Read full review...
