good date movie

Gray (Jennifer Garner) thought that she and her fiance Grady would be getting married this weekend, but instead she's attending his funeral. Already destroyed at the loss of what could have been, she's devastated to learn that Grady had a secret life that he kept from her including a million dollar estate and a toddler love child. When the mother of said child comes looking for Grady, she must confront the past in order to have a future. Juliette Lewis gives her all as the slightly trampy quasi-Earth mother.

As Gray comes to terms with his betrayal, she turns to his roommates for solace and a place to stay since she can no longer afford the house they were renting. Through this quasi-extended family, she discovers the Grady she never knew, as well as the Gray that she is now becoming, and finds herself getting closer to his lothario friend Fritz (Timothy Olyphant), as friends Sam and Dennis also experience difficulty dealing with the loss of their friend.

Writer/director Susannah Grant, best known as the scribe behind "Erin Brokovich" and "In Her Shoes," has created a poignant story of love, loss, and forgiveness. Kevin Smith shows a serious side as well as provides comic relief as Sam, the inspirational comment writer (okay, typist) for "Constant Comment Teas." Veteran British actress Fiona Shaw, hysterical as the horny headmistress of the tony boarding school in "Three Men and a Little Lady," dons an American accent and gives a heartwarming performance of a mother who just wants her son back. And Juliette Lewis is a bit chiched in the role of flighty masseuse Maureen, who apparently doesn't own a pair of flat shoes.

Though some might find the romance between Gray and Fritz develop a little too quickly, I thought it was handled tastefully given the love-hate relationship between them and how thin the line between the two can be (though the ending was a bit rushed). Missing from the film was Grady himself - a couple flashbacks with him would have added depth to the relationship between Gray and Grady and given us a chance to find out what made him such a touchstone for the five lead characters.

The disc's special features are minimal - just lots of movie trailers and commentary - nothing to write home about.

Sorry to say.... Bad Chick Flick !

Tina and I watched this last night...

It was on her list to view on DVD, and since I like Jennifer Garner & Kevin Smith, I put it up higher on the list to rent.

However, both she and I realized that it was a Bad movie...

It just didn't know where it wanted to go. Was it a comedy or a drama or exactly what????

Even I tired of Jennifer Garner, and I am a big 'Alias' & 'Elektra' fan of hers.

The best scenes in the movie were between Kevin Smith's role and Juliette Lewis' role. There should have be a movie on that, as it could have the 'Goodbye Girl' for the New Millenium !!

I won't say it was a complete waste of time, but definitely a DVD film that shouldn't be on top of your list to view!

The title threw me off, they could have picked a more fitting title, but the movie was A++++

To me, this was a sleeper, I had no idea what a good movie this was, it was a top 10 in my book. Plenty of laughs, an unusual plot that was so entertaining.

Tells the movie very well

The movie to me catches the importance of letting go of someone that has passed on and that we love. It also teaches us not to judge and individual especially when the stereo type is in effect. Let another someone in because our hearts may break but they were meant to love another person. Given a chance even the worse stereo typed person can be different depending on the person they are with. Also always have your friends in your life and don't ever be ashamed of who you are with because you just may be the person who makes them who they are.Read full review...

Great acting; great cast; good drama and comedy

We just picked up this movie the other day and watched it. We were always big fans of Jennifer Garner, especially in Alias. We've enjoyed Timothy Olyphant in Deadwood so we figured this is the perfect movie! As we watched eating our popcorn, we really surprised how it kept our attention. It reminded me of one of my best friends who lost her fiance. The drama and comedy in this movis is just remarkable. The scenery is just awesome! It's not the greatest, but it is a good movie.Read full review...

Must see for all Garner/Olyphant fans!

Right from the beginning, this movie has you hooked! It's more of a romantic than a comedy, with some great little twists thrown in throughout. The story is beautiful and very well-written & acted out, and the scenery is absolutely breathtaking! You really feel the emotions Jennifer Garner delivers, and fall in love with the love Garner and Timothy Olyphant share. Let's not forget the awesome Kevin Smith character, quirky and funny, and never offending! Great movie, definitely recommended :)Read full review...

Great drama movie, awesome cast...

I absolutely love this movie. I watched it on a rental basis, and during the week I had it, I watched it four times. If you like romantic comedies, you're sure to love this movie. Not only is the cast superb, but the story will touch your heart... and the chemistry between the two lead characters is nothing less than steamy!Read full review...

Don't give away the ending

I perhaps am not fully qualified to write a review because i was unable to sit through the entire movie. What I did see was a drifting, pointless portrayal of the many ways a person can betray their friends. I was well into the second reel before I realized this was taking place in Boulder Colorado, which is just down the street from where I live. Duh, guess I should have watched more episodes of "South Park" to get the connection. The package description suggests a serious depiction of life after death, for the survivors. but it is clouded by drama mama and group over-acting sessions making it uncomfortable to endure, for the viewer.Read full review...
