Centennial is a good title for this movie.

A true to life movie that inspired me, also interesting. I think there is some history in this movie. I like movies like these. Tells quite a lot about Colorado and the east.

"Centennial" covers more than 100 years, and it's worth every one of them.

I remember reading "Centennial" when it was published and being completely enthralled by the scope of this epic novel. I missed the TV series when it first was broadcast, partly because I didn't think it could possibly live up to its' antecedent. I was wrong. I've lived in Colorado since then, and the spectacular scenery makes me long to return. "Centennial" is much more than the story of a little town in Colorado; it's the story of our country. The casting was perfect, and the actors brought the story to life perfectly. I'm glad to be able to see the entire series, and it is well worth the time (nearly 24 hours). I plan to make watching it an annual event.Read full review...

An accurate historical account of the settling of the west, including the good, the bad and the ugly.

I remember it from the 80's when I first saw it. It is great to see it again. I also have the James Michener book, "Centennial." It is a favorite of mine.

This was "THE" television event of the late 70s

Very good copy. An ambitious undertaking, this adaptation of the James Michener novel is somewhat undermined by the hack "televisionized" screenwriting. Loaded with "Hot" TV stars of the 70s-80s, some of whom made the best of the script. All that said, I'm still glad to have this authentic artifact of that period of our popular culture.Read full review...

Best Damn Movie I Ever Saw!

Best damn DVD I ever watched!I also read the book several times.Much of what's in the movie is in the book.I strongly suggest reading the book as well as much of what's in the book isnt in the movie. But all the characters are in both the movie and book. For example Levi Zendt's trip towards Oregon is much more involved in the book than the movie.(Levi is played by Gregory Harrison.

Going nostalgic

I enjoyed this series when first shown so opted to buy. Have not played as yet so cannot comment on image quality, but it should be fine. I realize there may be flaws in the historical accuracy but it is to me entertainment without all the four-letter words.Read full review...

Great morality movie history of opening up the west.

Centennial, a great movie, is based on a great novel. Because of its time of filming, the acting and filming styles are old, and modern political correctness is absent, but the characters still demonstrate the power of love in a tough, lawless environment.Read full review...

Very exciting and entertaining series.

I have watched this mini series several times. I love seeing families of the old west grow through the generations. I thought it was a superb presentation of the old west.

A High Budget Miniseries From network TV

This is the kind of thing only done on HBO today. It seems network TV has abandoned the miniseries. What a shame-they were very good at holding an audience over several days and often times weeks. Centennial is a good example of the miniseries at its best. All encompassing story with character development and some of the most popular actors of that time. With 12 episodes, this miniseries has not received re-run status. Produced in the late 70's, many people have never watched it the first time. The Color and picture quality are excellent. If you enjoy Westerns, American History, and strength of the human spitit, you will love Centennial.Read full review...

Centennial DVD Series,

I bought this item for my dad for Christmas, he love old westerns and history. He opened this up and put the first disk right in the dvd player. I though to myself "great now we can all be bored". Not ture, the move actually kept my attention while i was in the room. I am a hunter and camper and and what i saw of the movie had to do with those things, so being younger i was able to appreciate it as well.

The picture and sound were good considering the age of the movie. Alot of good accurate history facts. The movie follows the books pretty close with a few changes that (according to my dad) werent that important.
