John McCutcheon says that this is one of the songs he's written that just flowed through him. The first time I heard it on the car radio I had to pull over, the story and the music moved me so. At a time when there is so much terror and war in the world, this book beautifully illustrates that at the other end of the rifle is another family much like your own.
