Out-of-date name brand product at a great price!

New to the IT world and was looking for some decently priced Cisco products to practice and study with. I ended up getting two 2950T switches in the order, meaning it had some gigabit capability which was a great surprise. Was very pleased with the products, they all came working beautifully, and it's great working hands-on instead of virtually. They even took the RJ-45 to USB console cable I bought for them which I was incredibly happy about. They've been running non-stop since I got them, and I've put them to use in a personal home lab. For the price they make a great learning tool and hobby item, but the product is several years passed its end-of-life date.Read full review...

best priced managed switch you can buy

Good:

Cisco 2950 has 24 ports, all of which can be either used as they come, or can be configured for a specific purpose.

For the price, you cannot purchase a new switch of equal value in a store, its just not possible.

The amount of settings and configurations you can choose is huge, which comes in handy.

The ability to define and implement VLANs is reason enough to buy a switch of this caliber.

Bad:

buying anything Cisco requires some information to use.

You need to be familiar with Cisco IOS and own a serial console cable to configure it.

The ugly:

the switch I purchased still had old config files on it from the previous owner, which meant it was password protected. I needed to reference the cisco website ( or Cisco CCNA Portable Command Guide)to find the steps to override the password, which can only be done with physical access to the switch itself. After that, works flawlessly.

( which just means that somebody was lazy when the decommissioned their equipment, potentially leaving behind traces of corporate network information)

Overall, Cisco equipment is built like a tank, and a great deal to find used. I love my switch, and I'm sure anyone else that is looking for quality equipment will too.

Excellent switches which are very durable.

Pro: When you buy CISCO you get reliability and a good product overall for those who know how to use it. The CISCO 2950 series switch has been around for a long time and I've had a good long history with these. In my opinion, they are very impressive and have worked well in many a tough environments which I have observed - such as closets that are constantly flooded with water and high levels of humidity with lots of shock. You wont' go wrong when buying one of these if your after solidity, just be aware that updates are hard to come by these days but can be found with good support from the online communities because of their age.

Con: The age of these units and their speed basically leaves them in the dust when it comes to the latest equipment available. Don't buy if you need performance and speed because it'll just disappoint. However, as a training tool or something that stable for a home network it's a great piece of equipment - Yes it's only 10/100.

Fantastic switch

This is Cisco equipment, so it's pretty much a no-brainer that you are dealing with top-notch stuff. Don't let the size fool you, it is easy to move around. LED indicator lights are quite helpful. It's a managed switch, so you pretty much have full control over everything.

The only thing you need to take into consideration is the fact that it is a 10/100 switch. The world is going gigabit, but a 24 port managed gigabit switch is going to cost a pretty penny.

Great Cisco Switch

Love it.... When looking for a switch, what is better than a cisco product. Other than resetting back to factory defaults, this switch still has a lot of life left. Once programmed, it has a easy to use web interface or you can still use the serial port for command line using putty. Thank you for such a great product. I would purchase from this seller again.Read full review...

Re-pourposed Cisco 2950

Well I bought one to use the DTD feature and lots of ports. Its installed on my Mesh radio site.
I have 3 nodes on different channels and they all connect via the Cisco 2950. I also got the serial to USB cable. Oh the fan is a little noisy but I think I can fix that.

Excellent switch for Cisco Training.

This is a great switch if you are needing a large number of ports for your network or for Cisco training which is why I bought it. For the price the 2950 series supports the features I needed for my CCNA training. Great little item.Read full review...

Great Product

2950T-24, which is equipped with 24 10/100 ports and two 10/100/1000Base-T ports. Cisco rates the switch at 8.8-Gbps throughput at the backplane and a maximum forwarding bandwidth of 4.4 Gbps. In general, this is a full-featured, high-quality, strong-performing switch at an attractive price.

Great for CCNA, CCVP, CCNP AND CCIE

Cisco Products

The best in the networking appliances. These switches are out of date and no software upgrades. Great for testing and used in a learning environment.
