This is a professional level smart switch with years of useful life remaining. This version of the 2960 has 8 gigabit ports - not the 100 mbps fast Ethernet on some models, an advantage for our LAN. If you are looking for a small manageable gigabit switch to extend VLANs - whether it's for real network work or for LAN gaming - this is your best bet: silent, powerful, extensible (supports even v15 IOS code), and since it's manageable - via console, telnet/SSH, or even web interface - you can monitor, tweak, etc. to your hearts content.
