Simplicity has pros and cons...
I was a long time EverQuest (EQ) Player, and had sworn off Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs) for years. My friends convinced me to give City of Heroes (CoH) a chance. It absolutley does not have the the time sinks that EQ does which is a huge benefit. However, the simplicty that makes it easy to play does lead to potential tedium. If you enjoy doing the same things over and over again and seeing "progress" in terms of your character's powers growing this is the game for you. If you need there to be multiple methods of advancement, and multiple skill sets to advance you should look to a more "advanced" MMORPG. It was right for me... I am still enjoying it, but I'd be lying if I said I thought this game was superior to EQ. EQ requires too much time to play successfully, and is virtually impossible to start over in now, but CoH lacks depth. Fortunately it makes up for it by simply being FUN!Read full review...
If you are into superheroes, go for it =)
If you are into superhero with cool powers, this is a great MMORPG for you. I will tell you the good parts first, and some bad parts about this game:
Good Parts:
**You can FLy! Anyone that has dreamt of being superman or supergirl, will have a chance. You can also have superspeed! You will be able to run like the wind, lots of fun!
**Very cool costumes! This is the BEST part of the game. You can have up to 4 cool costumes in one character as you lvl up in the game. Costumize and be your own superhero. Lots of customizing features too from eyes, hair, nose, height, weight, color of top, color of bottom, shoe design...you can be very detailed. You can mix and match the colors as well. You can look like a Barbie or a superBee bec. that is copyright. =) You might be asked to change your costume if that is the case.
**Of all MMORPG I have played, this is the easiest game to earn money. When you save a person from bad guys, that person will give you money.(The person is an npc, not another character). When you also go to missions with friends you will meet, it is lots of fun. You can farm and reset some missions if you like, and you will earn money (the money is called INFLUENCE) and Experience points (XP, this helps you level). You can also play with a lvl 50 Hero and they can sidekick you. Also, if a Lvl 50 wants to help you on a mission and at the same time, you gain experience points, you can Exemplary them, which means, that lvl 50 will become lvl 30 (if lets say u are lvl 33). You exempt them down and they become your sidekick. So to simply say: You can be a sidekick of a higher lvl hero (must be at least 3 lvls higher) or you can sidekick a hero higher than you (exempt a high lvl hero).
**BADGES: Lots of lots of badges. You kill a monster, you can get a badge. Do Taskforces (like challenging instances/zones), you get badges. ONe that that kept me playing the game was aiming to get certain badges. When people examines you and look how many badges you have accomplished, it gives you a sense of achievement. =)
**Supergroup: you can join a superteam called a supergroup. It is also like a guild to other MMORPG.
**PVP: You are able to test your skills and play against the Villains, or go to warburg and play against a Hero. No debt loss on this.
**Costume contests: You will find that the if u have a cool looking costume (even a bad one), u have a chance to flaunt it and earn money. They are done everyday in servers. Enter one, its fun!
The Bad Part:
The only thing I can complain about the game is, it can get boring. Flying around is fun but having to do missions with almost same setting all the time, can get tiring. A lvl 10 mission setup can look as the same set up as a lvl 46 one. The developers need to work on different mission setups more. This game lacks it. This game is mostly about missions and badges. That is about it. From lvl 1 to lvl 50, all you do is missions and badges. Sounds boring isn't it? But if you are into that, give it a try. It is $30 in game stores, $20 in walmart, first month is free with game, and additional month I believe is $14.99. A small price to pay monthly for entertainment (versus a movie and a popcorn with cost more than 14.99 and that is just one seating!).
Oh, also, if you are defeated by a mob, you can lose experience points, which is not fun especially if you have a bad team to work with.

City of Heroes
With a quick costume change you can become the hero you've always dreamed of. How cool is that? City of Heroes is a simpler MMORPG than some of the others out there, but it does away with a lot of the problems that the others had as well.
Without the tedious and annoying chore of having to spend endless hours scrounging for gold to buy a scrap to stick it in an oven to hope that it will become the item you want all the while hoping for...something. Or the tendancy for higher level players to camp and slay the lower mobs to get an item (that is awesome for lower levels but totally useless to higher levels) because it only spawns once a month, and then sit on the item to try to gank the lower levels out of their money. In short, City of Heroes actually ENCOURAGES interaction between the upper and lower level characters.
I would definitely recommend this game for those who enjoy playing online, but don't want to spend their entire life locked into the time consuming task of spending days of their lives and oodles of their hard won cash trying to raise a skil by 1 point. Excellent Game
This is an excellent game. It is well made, has few bugs, excellent writing and content, interesting things to see and do from beginning to end. The interface is intuitive and easy to use. The gameplay is straightforward, and when it is not can be figured out.
It can be played for 10 minutes at a time, 20 hours at a time, alone, with friends, with online teammates. It can be fun and fulfilling to play casually or by the more determined. You can choose whether to fight through the mission based content, versus other player controlled heroes or villains, or do some of the other zone based content. The enemy groups are diverse, interesting, and extremely creatively designed and thought through. From the groups inspired by Germany in the 40s, through psychic robot armies, carnival, para-military, extra-terrestrial, nature gone bad, and the most powerful arch villains.
There are updates, fixes, content addition, and new powersets introduced regularly.
There are things I do not like about it. All MMOs have a leveling treadmill concept somewhere at the core, this is no exception. In some ranges the game can get very repetitive. It is exceedingly difficult to start out (your first level 1-32), compared to after getting past the first beginning character. The biggest issue being from the teens through the low thirties, until you have established some ingame money, you don't ever have enough. Once past 32, you become rich. Also, before 32 on your first, you will make mistakes with powers selected, and it is not easy to fix those. An account has a monthly 15 dollar subsciption which is required.Read full review...
Better Named City Of Crack !!! VERY ADDICTING
I love this game !!!! With a great premise you become a superhero and rescue damsels in distress, and stop evil villains from doing evil deeds. Keep leveling up until you get to level 50 and then even more possibilities oopen up to you.
This game was so strenuous on my marriage that the only way to save it was to teach my wife to play. Now she has an account and is even more addicted than me. Now we both play side by side taking out bad guys and saving the world. We have our own super group, base, etc.... Highly recommended.
I also recommend this game because of the positive influence on children. Their is no graphic bloodshed like with other games, and you are constantly doing missions to accomplish good. What a change it is, having a video game teaching such good principles to kids.
As well as good for children my kids love the game so much that I trade chorse for City of Heroes time and they are constantly begging me for chores so they can play more. (It's a parents dream come true.)

city of heroes/ city of villians
The city of heroes gives you almost limitless abilities of customizing your own hero or villian. You can make almost any hero or villain from your favorite comic book.
however you need an online account to be able to do anything in the game.
game comes with a 14 free trial.
however after that you have to pay a fee of almost 1.00 a day.
game time cards can be purchased from gamestop or best buy.

Great Game
This was my first MMO and I love it. I've tried others and none compare. The detail in creating your character is waaaay better than any other MMO. You can look completely unique.
You get free "issues" (new material) added about every six months, so it stays fresh. I have played for a year and a half, and havent come close to experiencing all the content.

This game is a good game. The reason why i love this game is because you can create an avtar of yourself remake a superhero or just create what ever your imagination lets you. a couple of years ago it was probably awesome..nothing now
city of heroes is a online only game for which the server is shut down.....maybe they have a private server in the future but for now ,nothing.
