Funny film, appealing heroine

Isla Fisher is appealing as Rebecca Bloomwood, a shopaholic with a huge credit card debt. In real life, she'd be forced to declare bankruptcy. In this film (and ONLY in the movies, unfortunately!) she is hired by a cute guy for a high-paying job for which she has no qualifications or experience. Through a series of comedic mishaps and misinterpretations, Rebecca becomes famous as a financial advice expert AND gets her man. This is definitely a chick flick. It has no sex scenes. Teenaged girls would probably enjoy it immensely, though it might encourage them to buy whatever they want without considering the consequences. Warning: in real life, acting like Rebecca can lead to big trouble!Read full review...

Prepare for a wonderful time!

Isla Fisher takes front stage and this delightful comedy. Fisher is ridiculously funny and beautiful. Obviously the title tells you she is a Shopaholic and needs to learn how to spend her money wisely and many other things happen that teach her more about life than the spending money. That's basically the gist of the story and there are some wonderful characters and actors that support Isla Fisher such as John Goodman and Hugh Dancy.
The characters are engaging and the movie keeps your attention. Prepare yourself for a delightful time if you purchase this wonderful movie!

Horrible, Horrible movie. But how did it get two stars? Two words. Isla Fisher. She was very charming throughout despite battling an awful script.

Fisher plays Rebecca, a girl who likes to shop. She also lies a lot. She lies to her friends, she lies to her boss, she lies to get a job, she lies to her parents, she lies to her fellow shopaholics. Yet we are supposed to find Rebecca "wild and wacky" No, she is an addict and a liar. If she told the truth, she would not be in as much trouble as she is in, but where would the fun in that be?

Y'see, Rebecca can't stop shopping, she owes thousands of dollars in credit card debts. Her cards get refused, she has to lie to the EVIL man who is trying to get her to pay what she owes, but that is okay, because Rebecca is supposed to be "wild and wacky" (did I mention this earlier?) When the debt collector finally catches up to Rebecca and tells everyone the truth about her lies and deceit, we are supposed to feel BAD for her!

The main problem I had with this movie (apart from the whole premise is built on the fact that this girl cannot tell the truth to save her life) is the fact that her addiction is treat like a big joke. She goes to a shopaholics meeting where she proceeds to tell everyone how great it is to shop and how it makes them feel great to get that rush, making the whole group want to run out and buy stuff (infact the leader of the group is later shown buying clothes uncontrollably). Now if it was a drug rehab clinic, would it be funny is she claimed it was great to get that rush from cocaine? or what about alcohol, how hilarious would that be? But because it is "only" shopping (ie spending money), we can laugh at that.

Yeah, I didn't like this movie much, the main character is annoying and unlikable, but that's okay because she learns the error of her ways and everything turns out okay in the end (she wins her friend back, gets her man and is debt free - just like in real life....)

Cute

For a light weight romantic chick flick this one is good. Hugh Dancy is one of the finest young actors around today. Isla Fisher his perfect match in this film.

FUNNY ROMANTIC COMEDY

I BOUGHT THIS MOVIE BECAUSE I REALLY LIKE THIS ROMANTIC COMEDY AND ISLA. I WATCHED IT SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE ON NETFLIX; SO, I WANTED MY OWN COPY. IT'S VERY FUNNY; YET, BASED ON A REAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEM MANY PEOPLE HAVE. THEY ARE LITERALLY ADDICTED TO SHOPPING! AND THIS LEADS TO ANOTHER PROBLEM - HUGE CREDIT DEBT THAT MOST OF THESE ADDICTS GET THEMSELVES INTO DUE TO THIS DIFFICULT HABIT TO BREAK. ALTHOUGH, THIS MOVIE DOESN'T ACTUALLY DEAL WITH THE ORIGINAL, UNDERLYING MENTAL & EMOTIONAL PROBLEMS / REASONS WHY MANY OF THESE PEOPLE MAY HAVE PRIOR TO BECOMING SHOP-A-HOLICS; IT DOES REVEAL HOW AFTER THIS HABIT HAS DEVELOPED CAN CAUSE STRAINED RELATIONSHIPS AND EMOTIONAL TURMOIL; AND THEREFORE, LEADING INTO A VICIOUS CYCLE IN SHOPPING TO RELIEVE THIS PAIN.Read full review...

Good message, but not presented very well.

This movie was recommended by a friend. I thought the message of the film (to show the frivolity of having to have all the latest things)was basically good. However, I was disappointed when the main star and her girl friend were portrayed as getting drunk while trying to figure out what to do. For me, that ruined any good message that was intended. This sort of movie is primarily aimed at younger people and they are very impressionable. They don't need to be given the idea that they can drink their way through their problems. I would not recommend this movie to others.Read full review...

Lovee it

I only like the funny parts and the meaning behind making it. The romantic parts could have been better if they weren’t so cheesy.

A film to delight you!!

First of all, Any fan of either Isla Fisher Or Hugh Dancy will simply Love this film! It is very light-hearted; it Will cheer you up--or even amuse you! Cute, and so fun to watch it!! It is based on a novel written by Sophie Kinsella. More of a woman's story, but definitely a good dvd to watch with a sensitive partner! I also thoroughly enjoyed the mix of other well-knowns in the cast of characters! And, the setting--in New York area; the center of publishing & fashion which play a big role in this movie. Additionally, there's much situation comedy here! eheeh! So, take a look & see what You think!!!Read full review...
