Great value/fun game

Love this game. Especially the Keys to the City. Non-stop destruction. When you don't feel like a challenge. Great stuff!

Kinda boring now

As much as I absolutely loved Crackdown when it came out back in the mid-late 2000s, the game has honestly just aged kind of poorly. The graphics aren't great. The controls are decently buggy. The story is simple - "You're supercop/robocop. See those gangsters? Kill em. All of em. Then when their boss gets mad you killed em all, go kill him. Do that 4 times and the big gang guy comes out. Kill him. You win! Oh and also, jump everywhere. Lots of jumping." If that sounds cool to you still, you'll probably go absolutely nuts for this game, but if not, then I wouldn't expect anything different than what I just said.Read full review...

Good game.

Pros:
- Large, wide open map so you can spend a bunch of time just exploring if you'd like.
- Interesting concept and plays a lot like the Spiderman 2 game for original xbox; you not only spend a lot of time exploring the map on the ground, but on top of the buildings as well.
- Wide variety of weapons, including proximity charges (which work sort of like land mines) or the harpoon which is fun to use. You can get an achievement for harpooning 4 enemies to one car.
- There's enough things to do to keep you busy for a little while and a ton of achievements to unlock if you choose to pursue them.
- The game is very fluid and the controls are easy to use. I especially like the ability to lock onto the target by holding the left trigger.

Cons:
- Shallow storyline. You're a super-cop who's job is to rid the city of crime. The missions only consist of infiltrating gang strongholds and killing the bosses. There's absolutely no variety to it.
- Lack of side missions. Other than following the main story of eliminating the gangs, all you can do are driving, agility and gathering races against the clock which can get very tedious.
- Lack of transportation options. There's tons of cars to pick from, but no motorcycles, boats, planes, helicopters, etc which would've been cool given how big the map is.
- Very little replay value. You can spend a lot of time on killing the gangs, collecting orbs and winning the various types of time trial style races, but once you're done with those, you're pretty much done with the game for good. The only online value added to this game is that you can play coop with a friend; that's it.

Overall it's a good, fun game and i'd recommend it. If they add more variety to the main storyline missions in a sequel (things like going undercover, rooting out crooked cops, car chases, etc) then this could be as good or better than the GTA titles.

pretty shallow, but very fun...

This game is pretty short. Let's get that out of the way now. Despite having to defeat 21 crime bosses throughout a gang-ridden city, this does not take long and I beat the game in only about 8 hours of playtime. The good news is that it was a pretty darn fun 8 hours. Your character is an experimental new police officer who evolves quickly, and basically has super powers. As you use different talents, the more you develop. For example, if you use your guns more than anything else, you will aim better sooner, where as if you fight with your bare hands, you will get stronger faster. This is where the fun comes in. As you evolve, you jump higher, run faster, and get much, much stronger. By the time you max out your skills, you are scaling massive buildings, lifting buses over your head, and kicking dumpsters across the busy city streets. Add in a limitless supply of thugs to take out your frustrations on, and you've got some great action.

The only down side to this game is the length and the story-telling...or lack there of on both accounts. Once you max out some skills, which doesn't take that long, the bad guys are pretty much no match for you, and taking down all the bosses is fairly simple. The story also falls short, not developing any characters or any story beyond the simple 'go kill bad guys' theme. This doesn't take away from the mindless fun...but it does take away from replay value. I could see them doing multiple endings depending on how you play the game, like alot of other titles are doing these days.

All in all, this game is alot of fun, albeit a bit shallow in content. If you can get it for less than $20, I say go for it.

GTA: the police stories

the fun thing about crackdown is the fact that you are the good guys in this game of kill or be killed justice! your kinda like a super cop with super abbilities that you can upgrade from kills or collecting orbs around the city. abilities such as STRENGTH: lift increasingly heavyer objects from bricks to cars! AGILITY: allows you to run faster and jump higher, higher than buildings! DRIVING: increases controll and speed of cars, also transforms them into amazing diffrent looks as your skill increases! EXPLOSIVES: one of my favorites! increasing this skill increases the blast power and radius of the explosions from your granades, rockets, and other things that go boom! and last comes SHOOTING: the higher your shooting skill becomes, the faster your aim focouses and increases the power of your bullets! in all this game is frikin' awesome and the quests are great! keeps you playing for hours!Read full review...

Crackdown is more than the Halo 3 Beta

Review c/o http://gnadegames.blogspot.com

Crackdown is one of the most recent high profile releases for the Xbox 360. Not so much because of the game itself but the fact that buying Crackdown enables gamers to participate in the Halo 3 Beta. Many scoffed at Microsoft’s audacity to package the Halo 3 Beta with a game that many gamers viewed as poor. This is not the case (no surprise given my first impressions) and while Crackdown is by no means a memorable, epic, or innovative game, it does get one thing right- Fun. The game is just an all out blast to play- plain and simple.

Gameplay: 9/10
Pros: Game is absolutely amazing in Co-op. You and your friend (or enemy) can do whatever you want and be wherever you want in the game world. Goof around and enjoy at your own will! The superhero attributes that your character receives is also genius and makes the game more and more fun as you jump higher, get stronger, and blow things up bigger.
Cons: The “sandbox” lacks some of the diverse mini-games and missions of the Grand Theft Autos, Saints Rows, etc. You Race, Jump, and Kill bad guys- that’s it. If played solo, the single player game can be beaten relatively quickly and with less enjoyment.

Graphics: 8/10
Pros: A unique- comic book style look that is by no means as sharp as most games on the 360. However, the streaming engine/world is much more impressive than the old GTAs on PS2/Xbox and there’s no draw issues or anything. The Physics and explosions are what really save the graphics from dipping further.
Cons: Not nearly as impressive or wowing as most Xbox 360 games…except when a pile of cars explodes from your rocket.

Sound/Music: 8/10
Pros: Explosions, guns, and all the other sound effects work great. The announcer is fun and catchy in a campy, lame way.
Cons: Music and radio stations in the cars is a skimp and a joke- the standard has been set as far as realistic radio stations go in these games. Announcer is very…informative and talks a lot…I don’t mind him, but I can see where if you don’t like the campy feel- you’ll be very annoyed.

Lasting Appeal: 7/10
Pros: Co-op probably has near infinite replay value…especially since you are free to come up with any antics you like. The game’s playability and great gameplay makes it hard to put down.
Cons: Lack of variety in missions and what you do in Pacific City hurts. As a solo experience, Crackdown is definitely not worth the pricetag.

Average: 80.00%
Tilt: + 5.00%

Here’s where the Halo 3 effect comes in…for me playing the Halo 3 Beta was definitely a selling point (well done Microsoft). Luckily, Crackdown is not a total bust and actually a game that captures being a super-hero a lot better than some of the Marvel and D.C. titles out there. It’s a blast to play…and Halo 3 with it just bumps it up another notch.

Verdict: 85%

I have been playing this game for many days now. I must say it is addicting!! Trying to collect all the agility orbs or hiddin orbs. maxing out your stats which are; Agility,Fire Arms,Strength,Driving, and Explosives.Once you have maxed out your skills you'll be doing some crazy things!!! Explosive skills maxed out makes your blast radius bigger, making your exlosions HUGE!! Maxing out your agility allowing you to jump from roof top to roof top!!! HUGE jumps.. picture yourself as Neo from the Matrix. Its pretty much just like that, and its pretty much just as freaking awesome!! Maxing out your driving skills will allow your Agency vehicles to Transform into Crazy Modded Vehicular Beasts right before your eyes in real time. This has to be the coolest thing i have seen yet in the next gen console games!!! Maxing out your strength will allow you to pick up cars/semis!! and hurl them at the baddies wanting to put an end to your law enforcing career. Also picking up dead gang members and throwing them off buildings is also a fun thing to do! in all crackdown is worth the pick up! plus you get the invite to the Halo 3 beta so what do you have to loose???Read full review...

Very Good Game

When Halo 3 had its beta out, hordes of gamers bought Crackdown at full price just to get the multiplayer beta. Now I know what you're thinking: from a package like that, the game you have to buy for that kind of deal is gonna be terrible. It's like that fiasco with Advent Rising, where you had to buy the game for a chance to win 1 billion dollars or something like that. However, Crackdown is not such a game. It's extremely bizarre, gratuitous, and rediculous, but that's what makes it a great game.

You play as an agent of the Agency, a police force that is cracking down (no pun intended)on three notorious gangs in Pacific City. As a genetically enchanced super soldier of justice, its your job to take down these three gangs and restore order. So basically, you're like Robocop. You can jump extremely high, you have a heavy arsenal of weapons to collect and utilize, you can cause massive explosions, and you can drive anything you can get your hands on.

The game will take you about three to four hours to beat, but you'll have a lot of fun taking down the three gangs. There's still things to do after you've beaten the game though. You can max out all of your agents core skills, find all of the hidden ability orbs scattered throughout Pacific City, and complete the various challenges that are present. Best of all, you can do all of this with a friend.

For ten bucks, it's a fantastic game. I just wish that there was an actual story to the game and that it was longer. It's a fun game you'll be playing for a while and it'll make you laugh with all the crazy stunts you can pull off. Crackdown is a fun game that will give you action and plenty of good times.

Crackdown has no story...but who cares???!!!

Crackdown is a mindless action game with plenty of shooting and explosions and a storyline slightly more in depth than cup-and-ball. So why is this a good game? Well, it just is.

First the negative. If you enjoy games with a deep storyline that moves the game along, then you probably should avoid this title. What little storyline existed was far from memorable, and I usually knew I was approaching a boss fight when more people than usual were shooting at me. Really, it is possible to beat the game and not know what you just did.

Also, if you are looking for the refined graphics that Xbox 360 games usually offer, don't look here either. The game is more comic book than real life. Some will enjoy the look, some not. Just be aware that the images you see on the cover of the game don't differ too signifigantly from game experience.

But aside from all that, the game does have some surprising draws. Most notably is the player movement system. Your agent will be equipped with a suit that upgrades, allowing him to jump great distances and run at faster speeds. Jumping from skyscraper rooftop to rooftop is one of the most enjoyable parts of the game.

As well, you likely will find yourself (as I did), obsessively searching the map for level-up orbs. There are two types of orbs: green agility orbs allow your agent to jump higher and run faster. Blue hidden orbs give across-the-board bonuses. And since there are 500 agility orbs and 300 hidden orbs scattered across the map, you can easily spend more time orb hunting than in actual story-driven gameplay.

The game also will allow for DLC, and the Keys to the City cheat mode is pretty entertaining. However, beyond finding the last few orbs you may have missed or jumping through stunt rings in suped-up agency vehicles, the game doesn't offer much replay value.

Again, if you prefer games with depth, then this game is not for you. If you enjoy every now and then playing a game that defies both physics and logic in a bullet-riddled, brain-cell killing orgy of destruction, then drop a few bucks and give it a shot.

Hidden Gem!!!!

I would describe this game as GTA on an over-dose of steroids(sp).
I bought this because it was cheap but worth every penny if I got it for regular retail. Thousands of copies where sold when it first came out mainly because of the H3 beta, but most people discovered that Crackdown was not a bad at all.

Crackdown is a free roaming 3rd-person shooter with TONNNZ of things to do, from performing stunts and street racing to finding hidden items that increase character abilities and ridding the huge territories of crime and when you've cleaned the city streets, you can bring all the gangs back and wreak havok on crime again!

Once you get into the gameplay, you may quickly forget about the cell shaded graphics. These are very well done IMO. the sound is GREAT too, crisp, clean and in 5.1 surround. Weapons vary from 9mm pistols to seeking rockets to armed vehicles. Crackdown has 2-player co-op that is only for system link or on Live.

The only problems I found with this game is first, you need two of everthing to do co-op. Second, the camera angle can get bit wonky for the inexperienced... Third, a little tweeking of high level characters recovery when knocked down by weapons or vehicles. The first and the third are the more important IMO.

Because of the HIGH replay value and the huge amount of fun things to do in the story mode, this game to me is a definite BUY. That's why I got 2.
