SB0460 X-Fi - Great upgrade from built-in sound
The Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi SB0460 PCI Sound Card is a great improvement over the built in sound chip in my Windows 8.1 Dell PC. I like the features in the Creative Audio Control Panel that installs along with the drivers (available for download from the Creative web site). I use the Entertainment Mode, but there are two other modes if needed, Game Mode and Audio Creation Mode. The SB0460 drivers also include an ASIO driver for improved Audio Recording. The X-Fi Crystalizer adds realism when listening to music through my headphones. Overall I am very pleased with this sound card. Read full review...

Good sound quality but prone to hardware failure.
This card was purchased to replace one which had failed. Prior experience with this model card was the main reason for the purchase since it was known that the sound quality was very good and that it would work in my PC.
Though providing excellent sound quality, the hardware could be better. One of these cards failed and a capacitor replacement restored it to working order. Another failed hard and was not repairable. Both failures happened after a few years of use.
In summary, great sound performance but the hardware is not as reliable as expected.

Compatable? Junk? Worth Your Time? READ THIS : )
I would rate myself as a good computer operator. I can operate AutoCAD 2010, Access 2010, Excell 2010, Word 2010 Powerpoint 2010, Notebook 2010, Outlook 2010, install/remove software, upgrade hardware, even manipulate BIOS. Can I write programs and manipilate my Registry? NO!
I am running Windows 7 ULTIMATE 32 bit protected by Norton 360 v4.0. I bought this Sound Card all happy that I would be able to listen to my mp3's cryatal clear through X-Fi. Through my research Creative Labs said it was compatable with Windows 7. Microsoft said the SBO460 wasn't compatable with Windows 7. I bought it anyway thinking I Creative Labs knew something Microsoft didn't, boy was I ever wrong. I disabled the intigraded soundcard my motherboard came with first, then I installed the latest driver for my OS directly from Creative Labs website. After a few days/hours of operation "I noticed I couldn't get any sound for about 10 - 20 minutes after startup and Windows Media Player would FREEZE only when I played music." The only way I could shut down Media Player is by using the Windows Task Mannager.
After about a week of monitoring the situation first updating the drivers then uninstalling them and reinstalling then after rebooting. I got the same results, "I couldn't get any sound for about 10 - 20 minutes after startup and Windows media player would FREEZE."
I called Creative Labs Tech Support and they had me uninstall and reinstall everything by folowing the links they provided which were the same as I was doing anyway, "I couldn't get any sound for about 10 - 20 minutes after startup and Windows media player would FREEZE."
I called Creative Labs back and they asked me to stop updating my system using Windows Update??? Yea, you heard me right. They didn't want me to follow Mocrosofts recomendations...
I was about to give up and trash the card when I decided to try Winamp (a different music player). Now I still can't get any sound for about 10 - 20 minutes after startup but, "WINAMP DOESN'T FREEZE."
Is Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi PCI (SB0460) Sound Card compatable with Windows 7 ULTIMATE 32 bit? NO!!!!
Should I have trusted Microsoft about compatability with the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi PCI (SB0460) Sound Card? YES!!!!
Save yourself the hastle if you have Windows 7 Ultimate. Get a different sound card. Creative Labs technicians didn't know any more about how to fix the issue than I did. They only thing they provided me is reassurance that I did everything I could. They said there was nothing wrong wtih the card and wouldn't give me a RMA number to get it fixed. I am stuck with a computer that I can't play music of videos until my sound card wants to work (10 - 20 minutes later).
This is not written out of anger. I am trying to help others from making the same mistake I did by trusting Creative Labs website about the SB0460 being compatable with Windows 7. It was misleading information on their part and should be reomved from their site or they should update their driver.
Thank You,

Older Sound Card that works well with new operating system (Windows 10)
I really like the creative labs Sound Blaster X-FI X-Treme Music sound card, ie: SB0460. It has many settings which enhance the sound, but most importantly it pairs up with the software Adobe Audition for recording. One additional plus is it has a function "What You Hear" which allows you to record what you hear. One additional note is I downloaded drivers from Creative Labs website for this card to use with Windows 10. They work fine, however I found that I had to save the drivers to a flash drive and disconnect from the internet before installing them. Once I did this everything worked fine.Read full review...

I bought two and maybe I should have bought 3.
Been using these since they launched. At this price I bought two and am thinking I should have bought 3. Installed easily on my Xeon Windows HTPC and sounds much better than the onboard sound. It is also much more flexible or versatile.
I'm using this mostly with Foobar 2000 in this HTPC and no problems at all. Movies sound better and pretty good NORMAL Analog Audio recording via "What You Hear". It can easily handle two or even 3 players playing at the same time ala Old School DJ mixing. Read full review...

X-Fi Extreem Music
I like the quality of sound it produces. Setup is easy. The music player has a button that will open the library so you can select from different lists, librarys, or individual tracks. Unfortunetly the only other adjustment on the music player is the volume. If you want to make any other adjustments, you have to open another application because Creative didn't create a button on the music player to open this for you. One thing I don't like is when a song is ending and it fades away the sound gets distorted. If you buy this sound card wou will happy you did, it has a huge selection of fine adjustments that produce wonderful sound.Read full review...
Turn your pc in to a high quality multi channel audio system
if you don't have one of these X-Fi series Sound blasters, and or the remote controlled x/o drive bay, you"re really missing out..super clean..for gaming, takes the load off the pc processor..if included, the creative media center software includes a super-rip feature, whereby you can un-compress music..the enhanced sound recorder, lets you record anything that plays on your pc, or through any analog/digital input, with hiss removal/ lp scratch filters and more..and now you can grab one for a fraction of the original cost, because of the new pcie style, (these are still the normal pci slot style)..if you can find a drive bay as well, you can hook up virtually anything to your pc, including guitar/mic/midi, as well as optical/coax/rca..5 stars/highly recommend...Read full review...
Hardware is a Dream - Factory Support is a Joke
Bought this card to install in a Windows7(64)platform. I also went down many dead ends with Creative Labs "Support".
Go online and find PAX drivers. Everything is golden. Drivers work and the Creative Control Panel works. Works flawlessly with all audio programs. You may or may not have success using Vista drivers on 32-bit Windows7, but there is no X-FI support from Creative for 64-bit drivers. Pax is the only option.Read full review...
You will be amazed by the sound this card produces.
The Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi PCI (SB0460) Sound Card is a very powerful sound card. It will not disappoint you when you play your favourite games, when you listen to music or even when you are watching your movies. It has a lot of enhancements you can enable and adjust like the X-Fi crystalizer which improves the sound quality when you are listening to a low quality mp3. There are three different modes you can choose from: the entertainment mode, the game mode and the audio Creation mode. I haven't used the third mode as I am not intrested in producing music. But when you set the sound card in game mode the sound effects of the games like the gunshots, explosions and character voices are much more crisp, clear and loud. If you also enable the CMSS-3D the result will be even more spectacular. extremely clear, deep, detailed, and with decent bass. The only bad thing about Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme music is it's a PCI card and not PCI-EXPRESS.Read full review...
