$200 (in 2021) Upgrade for old computers

Replaced a 480GB rotating hard-disk drive (HDD) with this. The result is that my 2013-vintage single-core laptop runs much faster, and I do not have to deal with drive-capacity problems for now. Two goals: more space and less of a delay when opening files, and both of them are met.

I used Clonezilla to transfer disk images. The old HDD surprisingly had several failed sectors, so I had to do several very complex steps manually. Not something for amateurs, but the reward was worth it. I just mention this because it was unexpected.

Also, there have been changes to the interface standards. This is the SATA-3 for the previous generation.

As far as the product quality: It is solid-state memory from Crucial. Not really much I can add to this. (This was the only brand that I considered.)

I recommend this kind of upgrade and particular vendor, because I believe that $200 got me a lot of computer. Money well spent!

Excellent SSD for both the office user and software developer

I have not used this type of product for a very long time because I was using the conventional hard drives, but I am currently using it and I love it. I actually upgraded to this product from the Crucial MX300 and have noticed significantly higher speeds when loading up Windows 10. When migrating my data over to this new SSD hard drive, I have never experienced any input and output errors doing the transfer. Please make sure that you download the Crucial Toolbox software from their website so you are able to optimize your SSD (make it much better). If you are looking for a very durable and long-lasting hard drive for the future, this is the one to get.Read full review...

Great to have all the extra memory in a SSD and faster system to boot.

I bought this to replace a 10 year old 500GB HDD, mainly because I was concerned about losing my data if the HDD crashed. I knew SDD is way more fail safe but forgot about the speed difference. That is the icing on the cake. My Windows 10 system boots and shuts down much faster, apps start and exit noticeably quicker. That is just the icing on the cake. Now I have 4x the storage and faster processing. A+Read full review...

Great drive for expansion!

I needed to expand my storage for newer games coming out and wanted a good solid SSD for faster loading times. The DRAM cache on this isn't that crucial for game performance but it will ensure the longevity of my drive even if I end up transferring large files to and from it. I took my advice from the LTT forum's "SSD tier list" thread and this was one of the best options for SATA SSD's. Very happy with it so far!Read full review...

simply put, this is still one of the best sata ssd's you can buy that is still reasonably priced. great all around drive for pretty much everything thanks to its dram cache. I have two of these now for secondary storage and have no regrets! Read full review...

Gets the job done without breaking the bank

In the past, I had a poor experience using Crucial as a boot drive in a laptop and swore off it.

Seven years later, I saw this 2TB Crucial 2.5" for a killer price. I decided to give Crucial another chance, and to be on the safe side, I set it up as a tertiary drive and not the boot drive.

So far it's been flawless over the last month. Everything I've stored on it opens quickly (for SATA3 speeds anyway) without corruption. I'm still going to be cautious about using Crucial SSDs, but so far the second chance I gave to Crucial has turned out well.
