This is the first time I've had a Cordless Planer, I chose DeWalt because of Battery compatibly and Good Quality and Reliability, I've always had Makita Electric Planers before this and found they were Excellent has well, has I said before I chose DeWalt because of Battery compatibly and Reputation and I chose a bare tool because of price, at first the Planer felt front heavy until a battery pack is installed then the balance is Perfect and I Love the trigger safety interlock switch.Read full review...

Great Planner
When you don't have a jointer (either you don't have the room or can't afford one) a hand planer is the next best thing. I chose DeWALT because of the quality and portability (20v) of simply adding a battery and start planning. With this model, there is an edge guide that allows me to control the distance from an edge (good for dados) and planning in a straight line. Great tool!Read full review...

Another great Dewalt cordless 20V product, hightly recommend for the homeowner and handyman.
This Dewalt cordless planer is very powerful and needs to be used by an experienced craftsman as it can easily remove to much material or jump out of the users hands if not fully aware of what you are doing. As far as the planer itself, my daughter has had a sticky outside door on her home that we have tried to fix with shims and screws, but with little success. With this planer I was able to remove just the right amount of material from the top of the door where it meets the door jam and now my daughter is very happy with her door that she doesn't have to slam to make it close.Read full review...

DeWalt DCP580 is worth its cost. I have not use the planner for many projects. I used it approx 30 min total running time. Its so much powerful and mobile that I had real satisfaction of using real thing. Before this tool I have had cabled Makita made in Japan. It has been really reliable planner for 17 years but I left it far away from my current location.I think it is time to transfer to cordless tools. And I hope that DeWalt is one of the best brands that produces such new generation tools. Excellent tool for the handyman!
Dewalt has come up with a great solution here. The cordless tools make it so much easier to use from any location. This particular tool is really handy, much like a cordless drill. Once you have it, it's hard to believe how you got by without it.

I was dubious about the ability of a cordless planer keep up with the demand on bigger jobs, but after an 8 door installation, my doubts are squashed. One battery change, and this baby kept up. A side benefit is the edge guide that comes with it, keeping it straight and even when working alone. I was also surprised after attaching the dust bag from one of my other DeWalt tools how much of the debris was sucked into the bag, and not all over the customer's house.
