The device itself is perfectly usable.

The bundled ArcSoft ShowBiz capture software is easy to use, although for some reason the capture codec quality is limited to MPEG-2 at the original source resolution only (no upscaling) and the program does not indicate in any way if it cannot access the capture device due to Windows 10 app permissions for camera access, which could've spared me nearly an hour of troubleshooting. Thus, it's worth mentioning that if ShowBiz does not list any capture devices and the Refresh button does nothing, one should check in Windows 10's settings whether global camera permissions are set to allow - because if it's not, the software is not going to detect the device even if it's plugged in and installed properly.Read full review

Look elsewhere and pay a little more for a better product

Had a lot of trouble getting the product to work. After several attempts to install on the PC I wanted to use for video transfers and several emails to the tech help, I finally had to install it on another PC, where it worked okay. Instructions in the accompanying user manual did not match what the install disk had on it, so if you aren't tech savvy, this could be a major problem.
When transferring a home made video to my PC, I have to stop and start many times, because the program thinks the video I'm transferring is protected, but it is not.

A little glitch

The converter seems well made, install went great no troubles. When I tried to convert a tape onto the computer it would not work, error showed copyright. It was home movies on a tape. I'm not a computer dude. Found a YouTube video on how to disable the part of software for this. Worked fine after following directions. Has worked very well since. Good value

This device worked very well. It is important to LOAD THE DRIVER before you plug in the device. Windows or Mac may load a default driver and it may not work. I used Windows 10 and it worked flawlessly. The software is a bit bare-bones but it captured, deleted parts, put transitions in and burned DVD with chapters. If you need to change contrast or zoom, the software will not do that but it will capture and create many video file formats so you can use software on the files, both Apple and Windows.Read full review

Manual had some gaps on installation, but got it done.
Made transfer to computer ok, but software kept rejecting clean disks.
May not be that compatible with windows 10 home and when I asked arcsoft for

Audio and Video do not match!

The video capture occasionally stops while the audio keeps going. As a result, the audio and the video are completely off when the capture is complete. I even reduced the frame per second rate to the lowest possible. The image quality was drastically reduced, but it did not solve the problem. I have plenty of RAM and a good microprocessor. So, the issue is not my computer. It is definitely the device. I am returning it.Read full review

Works with mac

It worked with my mac (high Sierra), but had to set audio/video setttings each time I used it. I would recomend this for mp4 conversion from a composite device. Easy to use.

So far si good. Drivers installed great and it is recording both audio and video.
