Affordable vintage styled overdrive

It's great that my favorite guitar effects pedal brand is selling new reissues. The OD-250 was the first one released and now there are others. I can't compare it to a Grey Spec vintage 250 as I don't have one but I do have a vintage MXR Distortion + which is nearly the same effect. I would say that this reissue holds up well to my expectations sound-wise compared to the MXR Dist + in a more attractive finish with modern bypass switching. It also has an LED to let you know if the effect is on which is something my ole MXR does not have. For the money this one is hard to beat if you are like me and not a Toob Screemer fan. Is it transparent? Well mostly but if you expect it to be a Klon or Timmy than look elsewhere. Is it modern sounding? Thankfully no! This one sits firmly on my backup board while my main board is running a Red Llama. I bought mine used on ebay for $55 and then the whole world decided to come down from $99 to $49 brand new. It's not the most versatile OD out there but the sound is good across most of the range and that was good enough for many professionals. That being said I would recommend auditioning one at the store with a similar guitar and amp that you like to use first because this one will either work for you or it won't and there isn't any adjusting this pedal to suit everyone's playing style or guitar swaps in mid-set. Most folks seem to struggle with that concept and usually badmouth an effect before they simply try a different guitar or amp. With this one you are probably better off with darker sounding guitars (LP, SG) than brighter ones (Tele) as this effect tends to brighten things up a bit.Read full review...

Lasted a week

Switch went dead in a week, DOD wanted me to ship it to them at my expense. F them. Sweetwater stepped up and sent me a free return and refund. The new DOD pedals are light weight junk compared to the old companies products.

DOD preamp

very affordable. sound great for natural overdrive and has quite a good amount of gain that a lot of overdrives dont have. you can turn the gain down with the volume up and get a clean boost. may not be as perfect as bypass but not a very noticeable change in tone for the pedal keeps the natural tone of the amp. mixes well with other distortion pedals or amp distortion for extra gain, if a pedal you like is gritty, put the DOD after the other pedal (going from the guitar to amp) and have the gain way low on the DOD and click in the other pedal and you will hear the grit cleaned up a bit. so very versatile for tone at a very affordable price and it is built very well i might add.Read full review...

Exactly what I wanted...

I have a few overdrive pedals I turn to and wanted something different....The DOD 250 is something different...

It dosent have the mid bump like a TS808 which is really good, and it dosent have that extra gritty sound like a SD1 which is also excellent...What it has is a nice smooth overdrive that works great for layering with an already dirty channel...I have the DOD 308 and ran it side by side with this one and they are both excellent layering pedals...Check it out on YouTube and hear for yourself...

I would recommend the DOD 250 if your looking for an overdrive that almost acts like a compressor with balls...It's really good.

This plain looking little box rocks! Adds to your tone or stands alone!

I do not like distortion pedals. I feel that you can never properly emulate the warmth of a tube amp/preamp, even though a few Line 6 products come pretty darn close. Having said this, I have been using this stomp box for about 10 years (vintage, not reissued) and LOVE it. This little two knob number shows that sometimes simplicity can go a long way. It's perfect for adding just a touch of body to your existing OD tone, or performing as the basis of your sound. True it doesn't provide you with the over saturated tones that most metal guitarists prefer, but for most genres, it holds it own. Of course the 1/8 inch DC jack is a dissadvantage, so I modded mine, removing the old jack, enlarging the port in the shell and installing a standard pole jack. Either way the box operates very well on battery power alone offering longevity and full powerful tone.Read full review...

Good boost/overdrive that gives you just enough of what you need

Alot of extra length on the interior wiring that makes me feel like something will come loose. There is no separate battery compartment, (like the original), and you have to remove the entire bottom plate to change it, where all the lenghty wiring pops up and out. You have to tuck a few wires back inside as you wedge the battery against the corner and close up. Overall, it adds an interesting suttle boost to your sound with a bit of grit. I think it could serve Blues and Classic Rock guitarists well. This is not a pedal for those who want to play Metal.Read full review...

Nice little overdrive!

From a little push to full on distortion this pedal is great! I use it in front of an Ampeg tube amp for blues to rock.
