03 Anniversary Heritage Softail Classic FLSTCI

Since this speedometer works on so many different models, I can only give my installation opinion on my bike. I had no service manual and even if I had it would only have mattered with 1 ground wire. The VSS ( Vehicle speed sensor ) “ground” wire. There are 2 black grounds coming out of the harness. 1 of them goes to the battery, the VSS wire apparently has a capacitor and a diode or 2 that are required in order to cause the pulsing signal to give the speed information. I picked the wrong black wire to connect to and could not get the speedometer to create a mph, it did nothing. So I disconnected from the wrong black ground wire and connected to the other one that’s in the same harness cluster and then everything was happy. The correct black wire is located on the corner of the harness and is next to a red wire, (see pic). Also, on my bike, the left and right turn signal wires are on a separate wire harness but the paper instruction sheets supplied with the speedometer shows them being on the one with the 2 unidentifiable black ground wires. Anyway, I’m not so sure this thing was worth what is being charged for it because it took me 2 days to rig that damn thing. The color code is correct and pretty much every wire will be plainly marked and easy to cross reference according to the supplied instructions. I used connectors to wire the speedometer to my harness so that just in case everything went south, I could just unplug everything and put the old speedometer back in without any trouble, and so looking at the picture probably seems like a pretty big mess and actually it is because it took a lot of patience to roll that up in a way to get it to fit underneath. I could tell some stories bout that but I better not. Believe me, it is not easy. Oh, and my bike had the pink tack wire which saved me even more time and trouble. I also need to mention that on my bike, securing it where the old speedometer was, created it’s own engineering situation because all but the L-shaped steel brackets were completely useless and I tried like hell to use some of that stuff. The round black plastic brace that came with the old speedometer and the L-shaped Steel brackets were the only way I could secure the new speedometer, and it is secure but it ain’t nothing like what I expected it to be. I should have taken a picture but there’s no way I’m going back in there just to take a pic. of the way it’s mounted.Read full review...

great meter but not plug and play exactly

great speedometer. You will have to know how to wire it in on a 2003 earlier bike though. Not a plug and play on 2003 and below. but it is a great meter with a ton of features.
