The One and Only Vampire Soap Opera Personified

Oh the memories.... I remember coming home from grammar school and catching Dark Shadows in the,late 60s early 70s... what a neat experience, expecially on stormy afternoons just to see what the nefarious Barnabus Collins was up to.... Collection 2 gets into the thick of things, really setting up the full scenario of the series. The spooky, gothic sets, the bizarre twists and turns of the plot and the genuinely fine acting make it a must for any collector and/or newcomer. Shadows brings back good memories of times gone by.

The acting is just okay, but the times were different. The Soap was "live" with very little or zero editing - so actors make mistakes with their lines, but they just keep on going. Pretty neat! If you were young and watched (or even heard the music in the background), it'll bring back memories of your childhood. My wife & I watch it with our two teenage children AND THEY LOVE IT more than we do! We gather around and watch 1-3 episodes every couple days (they are only 25 minutes each). Good fun and laughs. Like any soap, things move pretty slow and story lines develop and redevelop as they along...but that's have the fun of it - laughing at the story or how the actor delivered a line.

With all this Twilight stuff, this is the real vampire thriller that adults and teens can enjoy. Just hide the jacket story summaries from the teens because they can't helped from peeking and reading what's going to happen in the days to come.Read full review...

Dark Shadows, or Barnabas Collins, Part II

I like the product for several reasons. Number one is that it is professionally produced, and all the disks actually play. There are a few manufacturers of DVD sets who provide poor quality disks, and in a set, it may be months before the defective disk is discovered. There is no such problem with this set. Put each disk in and it plays -- every single time. This is actually a 4 disk set.

I bought Dark Shadows no. 2 because it was a nostalgia item that I wanted. I was not disappointed in the least. I had already purchased set #1 at Half Price Books and enjoyed it. Had I not seen the product in a used bookstore, I would not have known it existed, nor be aware of the quality of the product.

The picture image is not perfect, because the video is very old, but it is viewable, and all details of the sets are plainly visible. These were some very detailed sound stage sets, so there is no compromise in your viewing pleasure.

Just a caveat to potential buyers. The set number one begins with the appearance of Barnabas Collins, the most popular character. This set (#2) continues his adventures from set one. For sticklers who want the whole show, the performances previous to Barnabas' appearance are identified in their sets as "Dark Shadows -- The Beginning."Read full review...

It is a great soap opera television, and classic, it was different than other soap opera's on television it was supernatural, vampires, werewolves, it was great and well written.

Dark Shadows - Collection 2 (2002, DVD)

I purchased this as an xmas gift for my 11 year old niece who is obsessed with the series. I myself was entertained. These original black and white collections are way better than what they used to show on the sci-fi channel.

Dark Shadows DVD Collection
