Dead Man: One of Depp's Best films.

I saw this movie in 1996 and I became a true fan of Johnny Depp because of it. I was surprised that it was done in black and white but soon forgot about that after the film got rolling. This film is about an accountant, desperately looking for a job, goes to a small town, gets shot, kills someone and becomes a wanted man. It's masterful because you never see it coming and the film is full of surprises. You feel for Depp's character as he takes you on a spiritual and adventurous journey. It's gritty, true to the time period and emotional. It's a great movie. Dead Man

A wonderful art film with intense visuals and soundtrack set to intensify the picture. Filmed entirely in black and white with a bronze filter, this film feature numerous cameos by many well know hollywood actors of past and present(though most cared to have their names ommitted as they werent paid, this being a low budget art film).

Johnny Depp plays a city slicker framed for murder and grievously wounded, through his grief and pain, he is slowly transformed into an almost mythic "killer of white men" in this old west setting. A very intense movie with strong morals of what it is to be good or bad.Read full review...

Dead Man

I've read various reviews for this movie, half being positive and half being naegative. Some claim that it's one of the best films of the 1990's, while others see it as pretentious and boring. Still others say that Jarmusch failed to really make a point with the film. I tend to agree with the positive reviews. The acting was superb (Depp and Farmer in particular). The supporting cast was also excellent. Robert Mitchum, in his last film, also proved that he was a superb actor. Jarmusch did an excellent job with his interpretation of the American west in a way that is far more precise than the usual Hollywood films evoke. I would recommend it highly.Read full review...

Hard to sum up, but definitely worth watching.

The film is very surreal, but that is exactly what it is shooting for. Johnny Depp gives a lot of life the character who winds up from travelling to an expected job to running for his life from the owner of the same company he finds filled the position he was told was his. Wounded and on the run, an accountant learns to become the exact type of person that the wanted posters describe. Full of action, humor, and absurdly profound, yet ridiculously absorbing at the same time. I you don't understand what I am trying to say, just watch the movie. Great Surreal Western

This is a movie that you will either love or hate. It has a little bit of a surreal feel to it with the Neil Young music and the black and white effect. Buy this movie if you like symbolic characters or movies that you have to give some thought to the theme and underlying meanings of the actions of the characters. If you like such movies I highly recommend it. Just the contrast of the electric Neil Young guitar against a western was enough for me to enjoy the movie.Read full review...

What a way to start over...

This is an interesting legend, a somewhat confusing at times mystery which will make you laugh or make you sad, although you must watch it completely from start to finish otherwise you will be totally confused. Johnny Depp was the main character in this black and white masterpiece, with co stars like Billy Bob Thorton,Gary Farmer and Crispin Glover.
