The best of Young's best era

Neil Young created his best work during his first decade as a professional musician, beginning with his days as a member of the short lived but legendary Buffalo Springfield and then as a solo artist. This compilation covers that period. It features some of the songs he composed when he was in Springfield and the best of his solo albums up until 1976.
It also features songs that, until recently, were hard to find anywhere else. "Star of Bethlehem" and "Campaigner" were originally part of albums that were never released until recently, so this set was the only place where you can hear them. There have a couple of other compilations since this release that contains some of the bigger hits from this album as well as his later classics like "Rockin' in the Free World", but this is still essential since this covers what most people will agree was Young's best and most consistent period.

One of rocks all time best.

It has a little bit of Neil young’s early carrier. So good to hear songs I haven’t heard in a while. Then Moves on to later songs and he just keeps getting better with age. Husk like a fine wine.

Neil Young Decade CD set

This is the one to get if one wants this album on CD. It’s the original non-remastered early press and it sounds great! I have the original triple vinyl LP set and this CD set sounds very much like the vinyl. The discs come in a double fat box jewel case. Get it and dig on it. Read full review...

PEOPLE PLEASE JUST REVIEW THE CD!!!

Great CD on the classic Neil Young (late 60's-mid 70's). The review is about a CD review - it ticks me off when people say nothing about the music on the CD, so they give it a "1" star because of shipping charges (wow-see below that .35 cents extra must of put you in foreclosure) or the CD was not pristine condition blah blah. DON'T post a review unless you are reviewing the CD/album!?! Enuff of my bitching for today.

Buy this CD and buy Rust Never Sleeps (Hey Hey My My) or Weld (w/a live version of Rockin in the Free World). The 2004 GH CD has most of the 70's hits and incl. Hey Hey My My & Rockin in the Free World. As a Neil Young fan, I like a lot of songs that didn't make this CD (Everybody Knows this is Nowhere, Tell Me Why (one of my fav's why didn't this make it??)Don't Let It Bring You Down, Will to Love etc.)But most of the songs were on the radio or recognizable if you know Neil's music enough. So a definite buy from this reviewer - not a bad replacement for the albums (yeah I probably have all the albums from CSNY to Rust Never Sleeps incl Harvest Moon another good one), a GH compilation is not "all-inclusive" but at least this one is a recommended buy, esp. if you like the older classic Neil & who doesn't?

Neil's Catalog Deserves More Collections Like This

Covering the first ten years of any artist's career can be challenging to fill two LPs, but when Decade was first released, it took three records to hold the magnificent songwriting and performance that began Neil Young's career. This collection, later released on two CDs, is packed with classics, and demonstrates what we knew then to be a master storyteller at his craft.

This compilation didn't stop with hits like 'Heart Of Gold' and 'Southern Man', or with work Young did with Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young ('Ohio' being a shining example with the latter): this 2-CD set also gave some lesser-known tracks their due, like the thoughtful track 'Campaigner' or the melodic 'Winterlong', (both of which seem to appear only on this collection), or the deeper cuts from underappreciated albums like Tonight's The Night or American Stars 'n' Bars.

It's a shame that Reprise Records never caught on to release any further collections from the next three decades of music that followed, other than a simple 'Greatest Hits' package that includes eleven songs already compiled on Decade. Songs like 'Lotta Love' from the Comes A Time album are noticeably absent, even though the title track is there, and many of his albums are completely left off. Decades 2, 3 and 4 were the collections that never were, but should have been.

If you're looking for Neil Young's hits and not much more, the 2004 Greatest Hits package might be right up your alley. But if you're more than just the casual rock fan, looking to see how Neil progressed during his early years into the superstar he became in the mid-'70s and beyond, Decade holds a lot that you can grab onto.

Well Kept, Condition, Sound and Value of 3 CD set

We hit the Jackpot. These 3 CD set of Neil Young were very well kept and very well pleased that I purchased them.
I bought it for my husband and he was thrilled with the condition, sound, value and enjoyed it very much.
He said whoever owned them took very well care of them, not a scratch of any of them.

Too Few Great Songs

There only two of Neil Young's Songs I play on this entire Album.

Therefore, it was not a good investment for me.
