Does make some whirring noises when playing a CD or DVD but I'd rather wear headphones anyway so the noise doesn't bother me. The correct USB cord that this uses is the USB 2.0 cable A-Male to Mini-B. Windows 10 found the correct driver right away so no driver hassles. Read that this will work on Macs too. the US DVD player instantly recognized and performs well. Its the perfect subsititute if you planning to install a hard drive/ssd in an optical bay but still need a player/writer.. THe Cyber power software was a nice add, BUT be aware even after update (s) which Cyber pushes for a cost..the player is supposedly highly ranked, but has the same glitches over a decade. Save some time and just download VLC player and it works just fine w/olocking up your computer..when fast fowarding a movie..
