Some great sounds to be found with these pedal...

For the money I have to say that Digitech's Hardwired pedals offer some great sounds! This is the second unit I've bought from them and it has several useful tones for my playing style. I have a Crowther HotCake (Blueberry) and found this Hardwired pedal to come close to the nice transparent boost I can get from the more expensive HotCake. It doesn't alter the tone of my guitar (a Fender Strat and/or a Gibson CS-356) at all. This pedal can also get into the higher gain, metal ranges of distortion, as well as several nice tube overdrive sounds in between. It is built rock solid and should last for many years!Read full review...

great pedal, Built with attention to details, best suited to blues/Rock.

Let me start off saying that I love this pedal.
this is my first distortion pedal.
I have been playing for 10 years now and I never thought I needed an extra pedal on top of the distortion my Fender Frontman amp gives me.
Well I was wrong - you can't compare the level of control this little baby has in comparison to the amp distortion.
The sound you get out of the pedal is cleaner and more accurate if you will.
This pedal can really boost up the sound and can act as a great booster as well.
You can see a lot of thought went into designing this pedal.
The knobs are setup in such a way that you get resistance when turning them thereby making them more accurate and sensitive.
The stomp-lock looks like a cool thing to have if you do live gigs (Which I don't).
The only thing I was a wee bit disappointed was the fact the the saturated mode wasn't really that heavy metal in it's sounds - I would say it's more like a pumped up Overdrive sound.
Tried other pedals - MXR,Ibanez but this has more control and better sound IMHO.
I'm not really into heavy metal so I'm not that bothered about that.
So to sum up - great pedal, nicely built with attention to details & best suited to blues/Rock (Not Heavy metal).
P.S. saved this bit for last so I won't look superficial - I love the look of this pedal: lovely futuristic orange with a great blue LED that is really noticeable in the dark.
I play a Fender strat MIM.

Killer Old School Sound

This is a GREAT distortion/overdrive pedal. It doesn't do the "metal" thing too well, but everthing up to scooped midrange you get. Turning down the guitar gets the sound to clean up nicely. I like the overdrive side better than my 1983 Tube Screamer, more flexibility. The only thing that would make this better is to allow switching between the overdrive and saturated sound instead of having to use the switch. I will probably buy two of these so I can have three distinct sounds. Right now I use my tube screamer for overdrive and the SC-2 for saturated.

If you want a killer, old-school, AC/DC/Zep 70's sound, this is it. The price is right too.

A great sound for my bass!

I bought this to replace the SC-2 I gave to a friend for a gift (he's made that a part of his sound). I originally bought it in lieu of a Univox Super Fuzz (the 1st which I bought in 1968, then again in 1974). I'm a bassist who likes to have different sounds on hand. I'm going back to single-effect pedals because I don't find the multi-effect pedals as effective.
This is solid & gives a good range of settings to dial in on the sound I want. No Super Fuzz, but it's a great pedal at a great price!
The battery access isn't the easiest, but it isn't the worst, either.

Great but not for me

This pedal is very good. Made well. Just not enough distortion for me, even at max. It doesn’t sound Full enough for me, if that makes sense.

Hunt for crunch satisfied !

I was not expecting much from the Hardwire Valve Distortion, but to my surprise it turned out to be a very good purchase. The two different settings "Crunch" and "Saturated" and the controlling knobs have a lot of variation in tone. I've been through some fairly cheaper distortion pedals, but this is by far one of the best I've played or owned. The Hardwire series by Digitech seems like a real winner !Read full review...
