Poor man's Mega Man?

While this may just be a poor man's Mega Man, rumor has it that this game was actually built from the Mega Man 5 engine on the NES. Regardless of it's ties to the Blue Bomber, Darkwing Duck is a fairly challenging and ridiculously fun game to play. Nostalgia overflows me as I pick this title up again, and I'm flooded with emotions that fill me with joy.

You play as Darkwing Duck, the feathery crime fighter of St. Canard city. F.O.W.L. is at it again, and it's your job to take out the various villains threatening the city. Armed with a nifty and versatile gas gun, DW can shoot normal shots, a lightning shot that shoots diagonally two ways in front of him, a heavy gas cloud that sends two small bullets flying in opposite directions upon impact of the ground, and a Quackshot-esque arrow shot that can also act as a platform.

The game holds up great to the TV show of the same name, featuring baddies like Megavolt, Bushroot, Quacker Jack, and the big man himself, Steelbeak.

While the game does have its flaws (you can't attack and run at the same time, if you activate your projectile blocking cape in the air, you can't fire your gun, etc), it's a fun romp for anyone who enjoys run & gun platformers, anyone who is a Mega Man fanatic, enjoys the TV show, or just wants a great title to play on the NES. Don't hesitate to drop $5 on it if you find it on eBay!

Final Score: 4/5

I am the caramel sauce on the candied apple of justice!

Back in the day, the pairing of Capcom and Disney was simply awesome. Ducktales, Rescue Rangers, Tailspin...all classic games that deserve a place in any gamer's collection. Darkwing Duck was no exception; tight platforming combined with sharp graphics (for the time), catchy soundtrack, and difficulty hard enough to make a young gamer throw his controller in anger made this one of the top games to own on Nintendo...that and the sheer awesomeness of Darkwing Duck.

This game more than any other of the Disney/Capcom alliance reminds me of Megaman. The level select, the different types of ammo for Darkwing's gas gun, the INSANE DIFFICULTY (though I do have to say that this game isn't as hard as, say, megaman 1). Darkwing's a bit more flexible than the Blue Bomber, however. He can duck, grab ledges, and use his cape to shield himself from projectiles.

This is an excellent game. If you're into retrogaming and see a copy, you owe it to yourself to pick up this game.

Nice Graphics, fun and hilarious...

Impossible to no compare with Megaman, but although such is not the same! Despite having the same structure, Darkwing Duck can be distinguished by different skills and by the infamous jokes clumsy hero.

I remember the first time I saw this game ... The introduction fantastic with huge Darkwing Duck on the TV screen and amazingly generated by NES. My God, it was awesome and won me over immediately. But do not stop there, the game also impressed me with difficult bosses that have totally different movements of Megaman bosse who are always on the floor. That was in 1995 and since then time has passed but the excitement of playing this delicious adventure

Certainly worth having this game ... beside the Megamans and of course :)

Wonderful gameplay and graphics

Great graphics for NES due to it being a later game. Difficult but not in a way that makes you give up right away. It hooks you in knowing that eventually you will get it.

A good, challenging classic

With great music, challenging gameplay and that classic Capcom feel; Darkwing Duck is a must have for lovers of 2D platformers. Don't get me wrong, if you're looking for an easy game you should look elsewhere. While not epic in its difficulty (a la battletoads, bayou billy, Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde) it's still sufficiently challenging that it's going to take many attempts to complete.Read full review...

Love this game!!

I love this game it is a lot of fun. I had this when I was a kid and now that I have turned my dinning room into a game room I wanted to get some of the games I use to play as a child. This game is great its challenging but a lot of fun. I like the fact that you can choose the stage you play it gives you a choice of 3 stages and you can pick where you go. I think the older games are better then the new ones. Its just a great game all the way around.Read full review...

Cartoon to game perfection!

First of all I was a big fan of the series when I was younger, then later to find out that they made it for the NES later on! Since I was too young back then to buy it, I always rented it from the video store, but now as a owner of the copy I still love it! The action game stays true to the cartoon and is pretty hard on some stages in the game. Your favorites characters from the cartoon are in it too, from Launchpad McQuack, and villians like Negaduck. Buy this game from ebay now!!Read full review...
