DK's Epic!!!

DK gets his very own 3D adventure in Donkey Kong 64. The game is hard to find and costly since it requires an expansion pak to play. But it is a lot of fun. You can play as several different characters all with special skills required to collect bananas and special items. Diddy is really cool because he has a jet pack. Get used to climbing trees. Controls are just a little off and not as sharp as I would like them to be. But so was Mario 64. I don't notice a big difference in the graphics due to the expansion pak but the worlds are pretty large compared to other games except for maybe Legend of Zelda. All in all this game is a true gem and worthy of any fans collection. Don't expect Banjo Kazooie greatness though. Just think Mario 64 with bananas. 4/5Read full review...

Awesome game for those nostalgic trips back to where gaming started

Nostalgia much, I remember growing up at the local youth club in my home town and this being the multiplayer game we were all playing. It's incredibly simple and immature but thats what makes it so fun. With the complication of newer games, a lot of people miss out on the action because they arent "gamers".

The 1 player story mode, while being extremely easy is pretty fun as well, as you have to figure out puzzles and it makes you implement certain "character specific" abilities to progress through the levels of the game.

If you are wanting to take a step back in time and play something fun alone or with a group of friends. This game is easily in my top 10 games for N64.

Other games to try out: Conkers Bad Fur Day, Goldeneye, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Star Fox 64 - all have great multiplayer modes

Donkey Kong 64 - Banjo Kazooie with a Facelift

A fun experience lasting many hours, this game is memorable in its charm. As a sequel to Donkey Kong Country for the SNES, it functions well enough (except for the near-ending).

The gameplay is not stellar but it is enjoyable. Being built on a similar engine as Banjo Kazooie, there are many similarities in mechanics and visual style to the game which all and all in largely disappointing. This is not to say the mechanics and visual style are poor, but to see them mostly unchanged from one game to another gives

The introduction of the newer Kongs is a pleasant sight - Lankey has endeared himself to me - but it grows stale quickly. The new-ish feature to unlock and switch between five different Kongs is an interesting novelty, but it greatly slows the game down at points when one completes a part only to have to do it again with a slight twist.

Mechanically the game suffers from the same issues as Banjo Kazooie: bad camera angles and sometimes unintuitive character responses. The notable part is trying to control Diddy in jetpack mode; that is the most obnoxious part of the game reminding one of the flying parts in Banjo Kazooie which were equally annoying at times. Other than those two issues the controls handle fairly well.

The multiplayer experience is lackluster; good for a few rounds once every few months, but it isn't anything special.

The biggest downer of the game is near the end where one must complete two minigames in order to unlock the final boss. One of them is the original "Donkey Kong" arcade game, the other is some ZX Spectrum title called "Jetpac". Both of these are difficult and extremely out of place for no reason other than various pieces of developer moon logic. They have absolutely no place in the game and by all rights should not have been included.

Overall a decent game. Not stellar, but fairly good; mostly I purchased this title for nostalgic purposes (I rented it when I was younger but never finished it). The difficulty in some parts caused a few rage-quits, but thankfully most of the truly difficult parts aren't required to complete the game (except for the two aforementioned minigames)

awesome game

Donkey Kong 64 was one of only three Nintendo 64 games to require the Expansion Pak (the others being The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask and Perfect Dark),[3] which provides 4 MB more RAM for enhanced graphics and more expansive environments,[4] as well as to fix a game-breaking bug. The game was well received by critics upon release, and went on to become a Player's Choice title.[5] As of February 2014, Donkey Kong 64 is the only game in the franchise that has yet to be made available on the Wii Virtual Console, despite the fact that Nintendo retains full rights to the game as their intellectual property.[6][7] However as of November 2012, the Donkey Kong Country trilogy was removed from the Wii Virtual Console due to Rare renewing its license with Microsoft.Read full review...

Most epic adventure of its series!

I'll never forget... It was so long ago when this game first hit the shelves! It was October 31st 1999 when the N64 was in its hay day! This game just made my day when I first played it! In fact... I wasn't even supposed to get this game! I was little and I'll never forget that trip to Wal-Mart! I was supposed be getting Pokémon Stadium! But they were sold out! I was so angry that I bought Donkey Kong 64 just because it was there! And MAN, I 'm GLAD I DID! Because it came not only with the Nintendo Expansion Pack, but an adventure that was so superb and downright perfect to me! This game was everything I wanted above Pokémon Stadium! And years later, here I am doing the review! Here goes!

Storyline: It's a beautiful day on DK Isle. The parrots are swanking and happily flying over the sea when all of a sudden a big menacing mobile fortress decides show up and ruin the peaceful day! Who could it be? Just look at it and you'll answer your own question! Apparently K.Rool is up to his old tricks again but this time it's far worse! Not only has he brought the hell to you (almost crashed it in process) but he threatens to blast DK Isle into smithereens with his deadliest weapon yet, THE BLAST O MATIC!!! The game starts off by your friends suddenly going missing and as for your haul of Golden Bananas, well it's a jiggy hunt now...! You will be driven bananas trying to find them!!! GOOD LUCK!!!

Game play: Your Adventure will start off course by you learning your special abilities thanks to Cranky Kongs potions and by you trying to locate the missing Kongs. (Diddy, Lanky, Tiny, and Chunky.) They are hidden amongst the various worlds and you may need their help of course because every Kong has a different ability. The thing that will make you go ape ****is the fact that every Kong has to find not only 5 golden bananas in each enormous world but they also have to look for their own specific colored bananas, and balloons! And don't forget those annoying fairies and fruit switches! There is allot to keep you busy in this game because you have to switch between the Kongs all the time so you can get around to those certain areas that one Kong can go or shoot at!

Graphics: Donkey Kong 64 has some of the best graphics the N64 had to offer during that time long ago! I am still always amazed when I watch the DK Rap and also the opening intro when parrots are flying! BUT! That part when K. Rools Island Fortress parks right in front of DK Isle is the most epic cinematic I've seen on any N64 title as well as in Donkey Kong series! How many 64 games have you seen that in? All the environments are well developed down to the last 64 bit polygon! It's a shame that Rare had to part ways with Nintendo. And also it's a crying shame that Nintendo won't even put this game on the Wii Virtual Console WTF?

Music Score: Donkey Kong 64 also has the best music score next to Ocarina of Time. The DK Isle theme is my favorite soundtrack! It's so soothing and breathe taking! Like you're actually on the island in real life! The Jungle Japes theme should be very familiar if you have played through the Donkey Kong Country series.

Value: Donkey Kong 64 has immense value! That yellow little cartridge I fought so hard to get on eBay deserves recognition! It's the best Donkey Kong game in the series point blank!

Overall: If you still own a working N64 free of reset errors and dust in the 48 pin contacts then this is a game you MUST HAVE!

Did you like it when you were younger? Do you like DK? If yes, why not buy?

4.5/5
As I remember from when I was younger, this game was fun, but now that I am not 6 anymore I can truly appreciate some of the finer details. The game holds up well with good but sometimes confusing controls, levels that look different from each other and great music. The physics on an emulator often bug out and ruin the gameplay, but on the original console, I can find few flaws. Playing it again was a blast, and easy to replay. Though I do wish I got to play as Funky Kong, you know he would have one heck of a weapon to use!Read full review...

Once more. One word, Seven Letters, A-W-E-S-O-M-E,

One of the best memories Rare left Nintendo after they broke up.
Was one of the best displays of the never-fully-unleashed potential of the N64, that makes a great show of the light effects, dynamics, physics, and every other detail that was out of scope back on the past millenium.
Had a great replay value for anyone that believed that there is always something more beyond the "Game Over", and was a fun game even for a just once in a while try.
Been looking for this little fellow for a while now, and believe me, It was totally worth it. On my country, N64 was a legend, and now almost a myth. Sum that up to the fact that this game was not accessible to everyone here, and you get an idea of how much it cost me to get a hold of this state-of-the-art masterpiece.

When I heard they are not planning any remake, adaptation, or any other type of revival for the game, even though the developers of the game said the rights for the game are Nintendo's, I knew I had to get me one of this while I could(been the Nintendo Die-hard fanboy I am).

If you have never played this game, you MUST now. Trust me, you'll love it!

The best game ever made on the Nintendo 64. Need I say more?
Okay, so this game is pretty much THE game of our childhoods. It is endless fun and full of mystery. It has been 15 years and I have yet to beat the entire game. It is moderate easy and hard at the same time. It takes skills instead of luck to master this game and the controls are fluent.
Overall, this is my favourite game, even more better than Super Smash Bros. Sadly, most of the Donkey Kong games today cannot top how interactive the game play is in this one. There is no equal.

AMAZING GAME

This game can be summarized with 2 words.

Freaking.

Awesome.

I have not played this game for several years, always progressing towards the future of gaming, but when i was digging through my basement, I found my old n64 and my game stash. Suddenly the memories came rushing back. I loved that system, and I loved its games. I started playing The Zelda games, and once again, loved em. But when I looked for my donkey kong 64, it was nowhere to be found, lost among the thousands of boxes. So rather than looking through all that junk, I decided to buy a "new" copy, because this is in the top 3 of my best games of all time. If you have an N64, and have not played this game, you have missed out on so much. 10/10, buy it if you get the opportunity. Cant wait to get this in my mailbox.Read full review...
