Interesting look at early console RPGs.

Almost a complete improvement from Dragon Warrior 1. About a quarter into the game, it becomes a strange early attempt at an open-world game. While the game is pretty good about steering you in the right direction, there are times when the game can be a bit too cryptic for its own good. Most notable is a puzzle late in the game where you have to track down a key. Its location ends up being so bizarre that I can't imagine anyone finding it without the aid of a guide. The world can also be too big for its own good at times, such as when you're trying to search for a small fishing island in the middle of the ocean without much hint as to where it is (I've been to this island four or five times and I'm still not entirely sure how to find it when I need to go back).

Grievances aside, the game is almost a complete improvement over its predecessor in every other regard. The dialog is less dry, the new party members give an element of strategy to combat that wasn't present in the first game, and there's generally little need to grind. Without spoilers, there are some fun surprises involving the overworld music, invoking Dragon Quest's trademark charm.

The second in the line of truest RPG video game history; an NES classic.

This is the second in the continuing saga of the descendants of Erdrick. For those who haven't played this, it was an interesting advancement from the original (and mass produced) Dragon Warrior. These games were turn based RPG greatness. The first DW gave you only the main character to adventure with, but in this one you get to bring friends! Well, video game character friends, but still a party of three! Do you have something better to do than to take these new friends on a quest to save life as they know it!?

As the line of games progressed, each added little bits of goodness to the series, and this was no different. In the first game you were a catch-all warrior mage. This installment included a warrior, a mage, and the game's healer class. However, you have to acquire these characters, which means that your main character ended up being several levels higher than your healer which could cause problems, but anyone experienced with these types of games knew how to handle these issues. DW 3 added many other levels to the gameplay that were noticeably missing from this game, but everyone has to start somewhere!

Dragon warrior II: An all time classic

There are many reasons why it is good to indulge buying the original of a series. With the Dragon Warrios [AKA Dragon Quest] many newcomers have come to know the game by it's updated GBC version.
<br>When you play this game you'll come to find that it is more challenging then the re-do: Roge Fastfingers is hidden in an inconspicuous corner, instead of an easy to find walkway!

You had no idea where to look for the key you find in a certain dogs mouth.

The treasure in the sea DOES NOT glow! You have to use your compass to find it! It was a challenge to get a lottery ticket!
There are NO tiny medals!

The graphics are standard 8-bit Nintendo, the controls easy. There is no profanity or sexual innuendos, that are so rampant in todays games. Just good old fashioned fun!

RPG classics. Gotta love em.

Sure there is some monotony with the game but this is where it all began along with final fantasy. Hard to navigate if you don't have the maps that came with the game due to the fact that you can't access anything like that in the games menus. But that is why we have sites like Gamefaqs. To go back and relish in the nostalgia of my first RPG game was awesome. I purchased DW1 & DW2 at the same time and loved every minute of both games. If you went out and purchased one of the new "Retro Duo" game systems that plays both NES & SNES, you will have problems getting DW1 to play on it but DW2 played just fine. I don't know if the other new dual consoles are having the same issue but I was finally able to get my original NES system to play DW1 for me, so it worked out just fine. To this day the Dragon Warrior series is one of the best out there. Don't be fooled by the enemy characters and their cartoonish looks and names because the game with it's numerous puzzles, dungeons etc... will try even the most hardened RPGers skill at times. Must own this title & all others in the series if you call yourself an RPG fanatic!!Read full review...

Good Classic Game

Dragon Warrior II is the hardest game in the series. You will probably need a walkthrough to find some items necessary to beat the game. You may need maps, too. The game is a lot like the first one, just ten times bigger and better. There are some flaws, though. Some of the better things are that you get 3 characters, you can fight more than one monster at a time, you can save in many towns and castles, and that the world is about 4 times bigger than the first one. If you like classic Nintendo RPGs, then you should get this game.Read full review...
