Paid for itself in a short time. Smoothed out my sound greatly.

I originally bought this effect pedal because I play keyboards on Saturday morning/afternoon at a local restaurant and the way the sound system was set up, there were a lot of peaks and valleys in the sound. The waitresses would come over and ask me to turn down (and rarely, turn up) the volume. Remembering that I used an MXR DynaComp before in one of my Top 40 groups to smooth out my synth solo lines and add "punch" to certain sounds, I located one on Ebay and bought it. At first my intention was to run it on the effects send/return lines of my Yorkville KB-50 keyboard amplifier, but when I did that, I noticed that there was noticeable distortion in the resulting sound output. Taking the signal straight from the keyboard mixer into the MXRs input solved that problem. I also now get rave reviews from nearly all my performances- not that I have gotten any better, but the sound quality has been markedly improved with my addition of this effect pedal to my setup. One quirk I did notice is that the device powers on when you plug into either the input or the output jack. The MXR DynaComp I had years before only came on when you plugged a cord into the INPUT jack. I'm not sure if they changed the wiring design or if something might be miswired somewhere. The pedal is solidly built and all the controls have a rugged, professional feel. The OUTPUT and SENSITIVITY knobs move smoothly, with no clicks or hangs and I love the rubber grabber rings on them that respond to your toe's lightest touch. Good and simple. Noisy but can't beat for the price. MXR Boss

Killer for the price. I actually preferred its response over the Keeley compressor. The overall tone isn't as good, but that's expected with the price. Not very transparent, noisy when either knob is cranked. The output level has to be up fairly high to achieve good distortion (at least on my Gibson Les Paul + Marshall DSL). But the bypass circuit is decent, and with a few mods this pedal should clean up nicely. Overall, it does the job. Very useful, and not a tone-sucker when kicked off. I use it more for long drawn out chords and getting feedback, not for lead work. If you're looking for a decent compressor at a cheap price, I'd recommend this one over a Boss.Read full review...

Great sustain and quality build pedal.

This is a very popular and useful effect pedal.Plenty of sustain if sensitivity is turned all the way clockwise,also it might get quite noisy that way especially if you run single coil pickups through it.

I like the price,small size and simplicity of this unit.

Pros: Fair price,simplicity,durability,small size.

Cons: Limited control over the sound dynamics,can get quite noisy if set to the max.

Compressor helps bring the guitar to the forefront

I'm using the compressor on an acoustic/electric Ibanez, and it gives more "presence" to the sound as it competes for audibility in the group, usually dominated by a piano. Adds to sustain somewhat, but primarily it helps bring some crispness to the guitar. Sorry I can't give a more robust report--I'm still experimenting with it, but so far, so good.Read full review...

dyna comp and fab chorus

The dyna comp is simple to use, sturdy as hell, and sounds really clean...Usually compressors add a little noise to the signal...Pretty clear. Works just like it's supposed to, lots of sustain and attack.
I was surprised by the fab chorus. I hate danelectro stuff, and this is cheap danelectro stuff...I only wanted the dyna comp but they threw it in...It sounds pretty good. It works hard. Like any good guitarist it has a work ethic.

These little things have a powerful history. They work like no other of their kind. They have a personality that others of their kind do not have yet, they will not compromise your sound. Hell, you use effects to change your sound anyway so this is the dog to bring to the parade.
This little guy will go beyond the sweet leveling of wild picking and ringing strings as well as give you a cloud like sustain that floats like a cloud and well, you will find out the rest.Read full review...

Simple, Effective and CLASSIC!!

Well... First, i've got a Line6 Constrictor... it's a good compressor pedal... but i started looking for some real simple compressor.

You should have no doubt... The most famous and classic compressor since the 70's is the DynaComp.

It's a great pedal!

So simple and so effective.

The bad thing is that its a little bit noisy... well... like any compressor pedal! hahaha
