A step up from the average label printer.

I bought this label printer mainly because of the features and the many label printing configurations. It is very well made and has a neat amber-yellow backlight and accepts up to 3/4" tapes. It takes 6 AA batteries or 2 rechargeable. Does not come with any type of hard case or carrying pouch, so care must be taken when transporting it. It also has a 9-VDC power input, but it is of the reverse polarity type; in which the outer part of the plug is the "+" while the inner part is the "-" . Ovberll very good label printer.Read full review...

It's decent.

I miss some of the functionality from the rhino 5000 to this one. I don't see patch panel functions that print numbers in serial. It's a good upgrade though, and I really like having a lot more sizes to choose from than just S, M and L.Read full review...

Dymo Rhino 4200 - Good Design, Well built

Labeling machines are a personalf thing. What you plan to use it for and what you actually do use ti for does determine what brand and model you buy. There are sooo many models and brands out there. I chose this Brand because I have known Dymo for decades. I chose this model because It is industrial quality Can take a beating. As I use this in the field, I need to be confident it will not die or break apart. It may seem bulky and akward for the size. It is not. The querty layout makes it a dream. I learned how to type. so this makes using this model fast.
RE: wasting label space at the beginning and end. It seems all label makers now do this. learn to serial enter your lables (write multiple in sequence. double space between each entry and cut yourself). For special functions. cable wraps, electric panels, etc. just get used to it. all label makers waste tape, and no way to be around it.
Another excellent point: Type size are points, as used in typography. It is a standard that can be measured. It is not the stupid. (extra small, small, regular, etc) with type size, I KNOW what size the type will be. I can measure before making a label. It could have more custom images and descriptions..only let's face it we want everything possible. If this is really important then spend the extra $$ and buy a label machine that can download symbols from a computer

Finally a decent economical wire label maker.

Easy to use, regular batteries or optional rechargeable lithium kit, label cartridge available at Wal Mart. Crisp print, easy to load. Qwerty keyboard. Remove the cartridge when not in use, so the feed roller is not continuously against film and label, It will stick together and jam. Always remove the batteries after use so they don't corrode inside the unit. Nice size, easy to hold.Read full review...

Inexpensive and easy to use

I have retired from the professional workforce almost ten years ago. I used to weekly make labels for electrical panels, switches and safety equipment. Now out of the workforce I still need from time to time the use of a printer to label home items including electrical equipment, switches, panels, storage containers, even my granddaughter's toys! My original equipment was the Brady 2200, which proved to be really nice but with a high initial cost, and a high cost for printing material. The Dyno Rhino 4200 unit was inexpensive, easy to use and tape materials are very reasonable. The only downside is for battery power use, as there is no warning to power use, so the printer will stop without any warning sometimes in the middle of a operation. So I strongly recommend the use of a power supply! Great product!Read full review...

Love it, great value. Great tool.

I bought this because it can take the 3/4 inch tapes. I have a 3000 and like it, but ti takes 1/2" only. The 5000 at work takes 3/4" tape, but leaves a pretty big margin at the top and bottom. With the 4200 you can use a box and still have 3 lines of text which makes for a clean look.

About the only downside to this is that it does not have as many A/V symbols compared to the 3000. And the 4200 works fine with the power supply and case from the 5000.

I have used the circuit breaker layout. I wish it allowed decimal inches to three places since 1/8, 3/8, 5/8, 7/8 are not covered with the current software (you can set it to any number in the tenths and 0 or 5 in the hundredths. I don't recall the size of breakers in the panel I did, but by the end of the panel there was some slippage by the final row.

I like the qwerty keyboard.

I have only one complaint and it is a silly one. Apparently the buttons smell tasty to rodents. I had mice in the storage shed and one thing they damaged was chewing on some of the 4200's buttons. How odd!

Good Labeler

Purchased for I was in need of a heavy duty labeler and this served the purpose. Had a different manufacturers type before this in the same category and this works just as well.

Great label printer for doing lots of labels with different text

Great label printer. The wide qwerty keyboard makes printing lots of different labels much easier than the standard alphabetical layout. The label cutter is crips and decisive meaning you don't have to guess if your label was cut. And the labels are crisp and easy to read, even when smaller fonts.Read full review...

Prints good with great features

Printer works good everything I expected. As far as set up goes it comes with a quick reference guide but I needed little more so I down loaded and printed the 21 page User Guide that made it a lot easer.Read full review...
