I had an old one of this concert on VHS and wanted to get it on DVD

The DVD did freeze momentarily in a couple of places the first time I played through it, but it could be just a fluke since I haven't watched it again. Not a problem however. I will still enjoy watching it.Read full review...

What a great concert!

I am a big fan of the Eagles. I never had the chance to watch the special "Hell Freezes Over" when it was initally on TV. I am very glad that I purchased this DVD. It was in excellent condition with crisp imaging. I loved the behind the scene's footage that showed the rehearsal's leading up to the concert. The quality of sound was wonderful. Best recording of a Rock Group Legend, performance, audio and video AAA

This DVD is from the MTV Special from 1994, named after what Don Henley would always reply when asked if the Eagles would reform. So after fouteen years apart, they reformed in 1994 for an eleven track live, four studio tracks on the CD version. The Eagles second Live album after the 1980 Eagles Live, which was put together remotely after the break-up.
This DVD is hard to find, almost rare. If you are an Eagles fan, you probably already have it. If you don't find it. It is a great sounding and honest performance of just how great the guys are. Don is a bit of a perfectionist, so he does show on the rehearsal footage, his true side. Even though there have been issues, the performance, recording and stage show is the best I have ever seen.
One major note is, the recording is in DTS (not Dolby Digital 5.1) but if you have a modern home theater set-up you will get it in surround if it supports DTS. There is a bonus Audio Only in DTS of Seven Bridges Road, that gives all the harmonies of the guys a run.

Eagles at their Peak

Incredible live show. Joe Walsh is hilarious, Don Felder is one of the best guitar players of all time, and Don and Glenn are perfect, as always. Schmidt is in great voice and is surprisingly deft on bass on New York Minute.Read full review...

New sound for old songs.

Most live concerts have poor quality surround. This, on the other hand, has excellent surround sound. Needless to say, the Eagles music is fantastic.

A MUST for Eagles fans - classic...! Flying High.

Pity the Eagles have put out only 2 official concerts on DVD (their old stuff and not so old stuff for that matter, is fantastic). Anyway, of the two concerts you can buy in stores this is the one to have! As other reviewers have said, this is a reference for DTS sound and if you close your eyes you hear Felder and Walsh standing next to you as they rip through their guitar solos (just like the old days). "Life in the Fast Lane" is just fantastic.

Pros: This DVD has Don Felder playing (worth it just for his playing on Hotel California). Great work on "I Can't Tell You Why", "Tequila Sunrise" and "Take It Easy".

Cons: Not enough rock tracks - 'One of These Nights', which they played at the actual concerts was omitted. They should have included all tracks.

Must Have For Eagles fans as a Document of History

My first concert with the Eagles was the summer of 1972 and it was a free show at Saratoga Performing Arts in Saratoga, NY.....They were virtual unknowns just releasing their first LP and they were my type of music then and nothing has changed for me!!! I love the acoustic country rock style and this DVD offers a simple arrangement where vocals are front and center.....This one has a historical significance to it because it's a reunion!! I only wish Randy and Bernie were involved!!!! The Eagles first 4 Lp's still sound the best to me but their body of work can't be denied!!Read full review...

Wondering why there are multiple versions of this DVD?

For those unfamiliar with the content of this title, The Eagles – Hell Freezes Over DVD is a film that highlights music the band performed live for a studio audience back in April 1994 in celebration of their reunion. ---------- In 1999, Image Entertainment released the film in two different packages (UPC 014381547924 and UPC 014381552928) for marketing purposes. UPC 014381547924 had a DTS label prominently highlighted along the top of the cover. However, the actual discs in both packages were identical and contained soundtracks remastered in DTS 5.1 and 2-channel PCM stereo sound. These two releases were discontinued when in 2005, Geffen / Universal re-released the film (UPC 602498806326) and added a Dolby Digital 5.1 track along with the original DTS 5.1 and PCM Stereo tracks. ---------- Holding the record as one of the best all-time selling music DVDs, many audiophiles consider the DTS track to be reference quality and an excellent choice for testing a surround system. Even if your audio setup does not have a DTS decoder, you can still listen in 2-channel PCM stereo. ---------- The video for the DVDs is presented in a full-frame format. This is to be expected as this production was originally recorded for presentation on television. There is no widescreen version. ---------- The tracklist is as follows: Hotel California, Tequila Sunrise, Help Me Through the Night, The Heart of the Matter, Love Will Keep Us Alive, Learn to be Still, Pretty Maids All in a Row, The Girl From Yesterday, Wasted Time, I Can't Tell You Why, New York Minute, The Last Resort, Take it Easy, Life in the Fast Lane, In the City, Get Over It, Desperado. The last track, Seven Bridges Road, is a bonus track and is presented in DTS audio only.Read full review...
