Great DVD

It's a must for any Elvis fan. If you liked the tv airing than you will love the DVD, it is over 4 hours long , two dvds . It gives a real insight on the man and legend ELVIS Presley, by the people that knew him best. From the very beginning all the way to his death, it covers it all. Even has bonus selection on the second dvd. Read full review...

Completely sanitized version of Elvis

Understand this is an official EPE production, approved by Graceland, Priscilla & Lisa Marie... so you'll be watching a completely sanitized, one-sided, positive version of Elvis Presley. The only involvement of any Memphis Mafia members was Jerry Schilling, who's remained on good terms with PP & LMP. Although there's wide discussion of "his group of friends," none of them are interviewed or even have names mentioned.

When Jerry Schilling said, "Elvis was a good husband," I rolled my eyes.

Who would know him better.......

I thought this was wonderful. more inner momentswith the man, not only the "STAR", and by those who loved him for good or bad.

This has many unseen and private, more intimate clips of Elvis and his "real" life. The only thing is , it tends to be biased towards the better parts of who he was.....but then, isn't that who we REALLY want to remember!?!?!?!

It is more interested in the man than just the icon. In all his magnificience, we tend to forget, he was a son, husband, father, friend, relative and then he was OUR Elvis! Bigger than life to most but just a man, often troubled, to those close. Great DVD, Story and Star!!

Jeff Schrembs Review: Elvis By the Presleys DVD 2005

This endeavors was one that was well thought out, highly questioned, and one that would bring up very painful memories. Priscilla Presley had to agree, Lisa Marie Presley would have had to agree and to try to tell a part of Elvis' story others (i.e. friends, loved ones, relatives, etc) would have to have input as well. Thankfully for Elvis Fans Worldwide they decided that THIS TIME was the right time to do the DVD.
The DVD is filled with many clips of Elvis singing on ED Sullivan Show, Dorsey Brothers Show, Milton Berle Show, clips of his movies roles (jailhouse rock, loving you, etc.), and many of his concert appearances (including TTWIT and Elvis On Tour, Aloha from Hawaii, Singer 68 Special, and CBS Concert 1977.
These clips play in accordance with the topic at the time (example is Priscilla is talking about divorce - Elvis sings Seperate Ways then Alwaysing on my Mind) or Priscilla is talking about Gospel Quartet (Elvis sings Peace in the Valley, etc.)
This DVD "shines" when Priscilla is talking with her parents, or with Lisa Marie, or with Patsy Presley, or with Jerry Schilling. Priscilla smiles alot as the memories/clips of her getting married are replaed and she shows TRUE EMOTION.
This DVD reaffirms Elvis Presley place as the Worlds Greatest Entertainer as well as the fact that Elvis Fans should give Lisa Marie Presley, Priscilla Presley, Jack Soden, Jerry Schilling, etc. much respect for this DVD and the unseen photos/videos.
Contrary to tabloids Elvis, after their divorce, kept in contact with Priscilla and spent many hours on the phone or talking in person about their family and how hard it hurt Elvis to have lost Priscilla. Seeing her face, holding back tears, Priscilla conveys that (1) she loved Elvis (2) she loves Elvis and (3) she was not expecting Elvis to have such a difficult time when she left. In full disclosure I have always believed that their divorice took a huge tool on Elvis - what he thought of himself as a man - worrying about who she was seeing - worrying if Lisa was going to have a stepdad one day - these thoughs can take the strongest man alive and turn him into silly putty in days.
Additional respect should be given to Priscilla as she looks squarely into the camera and says "I won't let them tarnish Elvis' memory. We owed Elvis that much". THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU Priscilla Presley for those words and that passion.
Jerry Schilling conducts himself gracefully, and respectfully, as he always has and his love for Elvis comes across as well.
I do believe that even after these 33 years since Elvis died there has to be a RENEWED OPENESS and ACCEPTANCE between Priscilla, Lisa, EPE, Jack Soden, Jerry Schilling, Joe Schilling to incorporate/respect/appreciate/etc. Red West, Sonny West, Billy Smith, Marty Lacker, and Lamar Fike.
I have THREE of Elvis interviews when he SPECIFICALLY states that he wants to make sure that his family, his friends, and his workers some he has known since high school are TAKEN CARE OF.
This was one of Elvis' wishes and I know that there is some "bad blood" over who said what OR who did what but (a) time is running out and (b) the fans would LOVE IT and (C) it would ensure thatevery product was "finished" as it had imput from everyone still living who was there.

I don't regret buying this DVD. A good view of Elvis's life.

I have seen quite a few Elvis DVD's and of course in that case you always see some clips you've seen before. I really liked this because its a lot more than just about Graceland. If you didn't like Priscilla you might change your mind after viewing this DVD. Priscilla has nothing but praise for Elvis but gives you an idea about how her married life was like. Anyway, I liked it and plan to buy another for a friend.Read full review...

elvis by the presleys, 2 disc set, running time /4:20

my review: i missed the airing of this special that ran on t.v.04/05! but since when i have looked for it to buy i came up empty. not so here i found it selling on ebay for a real reasonable price! here was my chance to finally see which i originally missed, several years back! first off i am an elvis fan and a lot of time from now i still will be. although the running time was 4hrs. and 20 minutes. the time dd fly there was not a moment i said oh gosh, when is this thing going to end. it flew by, this was about elvis from a to z. this made him more like a human being with flaws and many great qualities! i thought i seen ,read and knew everything about him that was in many books ,movies and specials about elvis. but i did see, hear and feel i got to know him better than ever before! for he was trully special w/ a god given gift to make the masses feel better in their lives. elvis really deserved so much more in his life, for the simple fact he made life easier for millions of others. but something quite clear came through to me, how sad he trully was deep inside, how insecure he was, he said it best in his own voice in this special. he said something along this way i can be in a room full of people, and feel totally alone. as much as a fan i am i looked at this dvd w/a total open mind,as much as a fan can. i thought i knew everything that is out there to learn about elvis but i did learn somethings that were made clear to me by watching this dvd. see if you can see what i learned, about the king of r & r , the entertainer of the century and most importantly the human being, the man! he always ended his shows with"i can't help falling in love with you"! i challenge you potential viewers to see this special dvd and not say about elvis in your mind i can't help falling in love with you! i give this a very strong A++++++++++! with all sincerity, kitkatapril! thanks for your time!Read full review...

Elvis by The Presleys

What a comprehensive look at the life and times of Elvis Presley and his empire from his family and close friends perspective. You'll feel like you're getting the inside scoop, hear stories of Elvis that sound like those your family would share of intimate moments, glance where cameras may not have gone before. A great look into the past (remember your father always wearing a hat and your mother with that same hair-do!?). All Elvis fans will enjoy this DVD set and watch it over again and again to see/hear what they missed the first time.Read full review...

Excellent !!!

Get this DVD set if you are a fan of Elvis. It shows you that Elvis was such a giver from the heart, he stayed true to himself, he did not change who he was because of his status in life. You feel the love all who knew Elvis felt for him. Priscilla and Lisa Marie give more of what Elvis was about than I have seen or read in any other book(s). I have a greater respect for Elvis since watching this DVD. This shows Elvis is human and cared for all whom he came into contact with, how much he cared for his mother and so much more. You will go away with more understanding and respect, as well, once you watch this. This will be one you can share and bring more into your own life once you watch this DVD. Must Have for Elvis Fans

I bought this for my 85-year old mother who has always been an Elvis fan, though I secretly have been a fan, too. This is a must-have for Elvis collectors. While somewhat one-sided, it is good to hear the "inside" story from Priscilla and Lisa Marie. There's also interesting interviews with Priscilla's parents, who for some still hard to understand reason, allowed their 14-year old daughter to move in with an American rock 'n roll star in another country. Go figure. Classic footage of Elvis and home-movies of Priscilla. A good buy.Read full review...
