Nice addition to the F.E.A.R. series.

This game carries on the F.E.A.R. tradition with what seems like a new engine. The game plays more like Half-life2 than F.E.A.R. 1 or F.E.A.R. Perseus. I can't compare it to F.E.A.R. Extraction Point since I haven't played that one yet.
The graphics are different, and the game runs a bit smoother. Gameplay runs from sometimes ridiculously easy to very difficult in the HARD setting as the game progresses. Like the other F.E.A.R.s the difficulty can be changed if you get to a point where you can't continue. I haven't had that problem in this one, but have in the others. Nothing can ruin the fun like being stuck at a point where you can't go on with the game.
It plays well considering I play it on my old P4 3.2/2 gig/256 meg video machine. It surprised me. I initially attempted to set the video performance low and manually since I thought my PC might be too slow, (like with some other games) and it barely ran. After running the setup performance detector, it was pretty good. At a much higher resolution than expected. A newer machine should be even better
If adult language bothers you, stay away. The soldiers talk like soldiers.
The violence and language aren't meant for children or the easily offended.
One thing different from the other versions I don't care for is the auto game saving feature that doesn't allow for manual saving like most other FPS games I have played. When your character dies, it's all the way back to the last auto-save, no matter what. Starting over involves reloading and weapon switching if you didn't do it before the auto-save kicks in, generally when you don't expect it.
The audio is kind of fiddly. Even with the in-game audio setting up high, the level is pretty low compared to most other games. The sound effects aren't as dynamic as with others either. The booms and gun fire, though easier on the ears, don't come across as strong as in the other F.E.A.R.s or other games. It may have something to do with it being a version meant for some Euro markets, I don't know. They regulate everything more over there than here. (The box is marked with "Not for supply in the UK") It's just the one the Ebay seller sent me. It's fine, it works OK with the American version of Win XP.
Another difference to the other F.E.A.R. games is that you have to set up a STEAM account in order to install and play the game, if you don't already have one. It's free, but it's another detail that is involved. On balance, with the STEAM account you don't need a DVD game disk in a drive to play as with many other games. Software updates are automatic too.
In conclusion; even with the few demerits involved, the under $20 US price tag through Ebay makes it a lot of fun for FPS playing grownups.

More action then the first.

This was a fun ride. I recently played the first one because a friend recomended it, and then I wanted to play 2nd. Playing the second game you can feel it is more console orientated. The AI didn't seem as good and the support for mouse thumb buttons is not there. Graphics wise, Monoliths engine still holds up well and looks great. Since the latest patches the widescreen aspect ratio has been fixed so it looks normal again. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a solid shooter with some great scary moments, and a must play for FEAR fans. I'd give it a 85/100.Read full review...

Great Single Player

This game deal with a very intenste and exciting gameplay, combined with some horrifying moments that fills your blood with adrenaline. The great story and graphics make it worth playing. Comparing to the original FEAR, the story doesn't stay always the same, and you're not just acting the same over and over, in this one, there is always something new. to me getting on a mechmachine and destroying buildings was the funnest part.Read full review...

Great Game!

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin (PC Games)is a great game. The action, suspense, and storyline is superior to many games of this genre. There is little that I do not like about this game. In fact the only game that I have personally played that I like better than this one is Bioshock. The graphics are smooth, and the creators of this game used almost every cinematic trick in the book to make this game experience phenominal. The only downside that I can see to this game would be the fact that this game is very linear and does not offer the gamer alternate methods of reaching endgame. Overall this game gets a 5/5 because the positives squash the negatives in my opinion.Read full review...

Good game, long Steam download sucks!

This is a good game!
However, even though it came out a couple of years ago, you really need a quad-core 64 bit to play it seemlessly. Also, be prepared to open another Steam account, and an unbelievable 1 hour download before you can play, for "new updates" or "added news". On 4th july weekend, Steam was "busy", so I am now waiting 11.5+ hours on my new 64 bit quad computer for the same material! And I have a super fast connection! This is after I heard you didn't need a Steam account to play!
Other than the HASSLE of Steam, the game is really creepy and bloody, FPS cool. Just as good or better than the other FEARs.

Great Game

This is a real scary game. I don't startle easy but this game had me going. It is extremely emersive, you get into it. You can almost feel the blood and guts. Warner Bro. (or is it Monolith?) did a great job with the attention to detail. It graphics are amazing. The game loads fast and isn't real hard on resources. I am running it full out at the highest resolution and it hasn't slowed me down at all.

What more can I say. The makers of this game hit a home run!

F.E.A.R. 2: Killer game... literally.

Now, I played the first game and was slightly disappointed by it's lack of the fear they cleverly put in the title. But F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin makes up for the fear that was missing in the first one. Alma is loose and you must destroy her as the clever storyline bends and twists at Alma's pale fingers. As you proceed throughout the game, everything begins to make more sense while scaring the hell out of you. It's a game to get, but make sure you play the first one... or else this game will be like spitting on a fish, useless. P.S.- Play it in the dark. Very nice...Read full review...

More of the same

I'd have to say I was more impressed by the free demo than the complete game of this sequel. I really liked the spooky atmosphere of the first F.E.A.R. and thought it added some excitement to what was essentially another fps w/Max Payne slo-mo bullet time. The destructible environments & new mech toy was fun in #2, but didn't make it different enough from the 1st game. I've played BioShock since playing the first F.E.A.R., and they also did a creepy scenario but did something different with the standard fps story & play. They needed to do something else w/the game play in F.E.A.R. 2 or advance the story. Play the free demo b/c they condensed all the excitement of the 2nd game into it.Read full review...
