Great beginner project.

I started off not knowing much about soldering, but I'm pretty tech savvy. I wanted to learn so I bought a soldering iron and this kit. I got my iron before I got my kit so I practiced soldering some wires together and I even desoldered a broken circuit board I had. So with about an hour or two of practice this kit came in and it took me a couple of hours to complete. The instructions are wonderful and really explain what you're doing and why. When I finished it i was bummed because I couldn't hear any stations, but I resoldered a couple bad-looking connections and now it works like a charm. Really taught me a lot and there's a decent room for error. Just don't hold the tip on too long or you'll eff up the board and maybe destroy the connection.Read full review...

So-so.

Experienced kit builder can build in about 2 hours, inexperienced 2 days. Operation is somewhat flaky/touchy. With no readout or dial you don't have an idea where you are frequency-wise. Kit quality is quite high, far better than Chaney kits. This PCB is much better, solder masked, tin plated, silk screened. Components come on a card and are identified. Comes with lead-free solder. Chaney kits bare copper, no masking or screening, holes too big for the leads, no solder. Read full review...

Fun and relatively easy to assemble

This is a fun assembly project. Easy to assemble as long as you have the right tools and skills. It also teaches about the theory of operation using words and pictures, so it is a good way to learn about RF electronics weather you are a hobbyist or would like to learn how to be an RF technician. I used a much lower soldering temperature than recommended and it worked fine. I carry it around with me alot and listen to the radio stations. It's a good conversation piece. Read full review...

Easy to build and works good.

Battery holder is no good. A common problem with Elenco radios. Needs some type of support to keep the radio upright. Other Elenco radios have a slotted stand to keep the radio upright.
