FaceBreaker Review (via AchieveCommunity)

Remember Ready 2 Rumble boxing on the N64? Well this is like that on speed! The games face tracking system is one of the most advanced I have seen. All you need is a xbox vision camera or a picture of the person you wish to put in the game, set your motion points on their face and let the game put them on a 3D model. It does a pretty good job too. As for the gameplay itself, well its fast simple yet furious! The controls are simple but the game is ungodly hard. You have to have lighting fast reflexes and be able to think fast on your feet, but after some frustration and a little practice you will breaking the faces of anyone you want in no time and having fun doing it. My final rating a 7 out of 10

If you liked fight night round 3, you will love this

Overall Facebreaker is fun a challenging boxing game based on what appears to be the original EA-"Fight night round 3" boxing engine. Many crazy and hilarious characters, interesting injury graphics and ring side details made this game an instant classic I play regularly instead of Fight night.
The game play us pretty easy to learn and special moves are not too hard to learn- note hand cramps are gonna happen once you get into it. Two player game play is quite good and includes a very scantly clad round girl and new music tracks. A big plus though was the character creator. The shear number of body options and ability to physically tweak your fighter is a real bonus!

On the negative side, having to regularly page through extra character start screens and a repetative controller/moves intro screen as you start each new boxing set does get a little old...

Bottom line: If you enjoyed Fight Night Round 3, thought Don King's boxing sucked, and have a twisted sense of humor, you will probably love Face-breaker! (note: Well worth it if you can pickup it for $25 or less)

Facebreaker

Facebreaker is a straightforward, button-mashing boxer with a considerable amount of humor. Older gamers may compare it to "Ready 2 Rumble", a simplistic boxing game originally released for the Sega Dreamcast. The humor and simple gameplay are similar with the two titles, although Facebreaker is even simpler. It has a three button control scheme, with a high punch, a low punch, and a "Facebreaker" punch. The high and low punch buttons also serve as dodges when your opponent is striking. For young or casual gamers, this game will keep them entertained, but they wont be playing it next year. I like it because my girlfriend can beat me in it, as there is hardly any skill involved (But don't tell her that). Buy it if its cheap.Read full review...

This games lets you scan your face with a Xbox or PS3 camera, then customize the look and feel of your creation, after which you can up load to the EA website sharing your creation with others and DL their's. The fights are fun as you can facebreak the other boxer your fighting.

Face Breakers

Mashing Success: The most accomplished professional boxers possess a rare blend of speed, power, and agility. The most accomplished Facebreaker boxers prefer to rely on their ability to distort your facial features beyond dental record recognition. It's relatively simple: mash buttons, mash faces. The goal of EA's sub-brand Freestyle was to make sports games more accessible to a wider audience and Facebreaker, Freestyle's first release, will appeal to everyone with thumbs.
Kombat Ready: This game is not lacking in cartoonish brutality. The last step would be to add a "Finish him" voiceover and the ability to remove spinal chords. (Oh well, there's always the sequel.) The secret lies in the Breaker Meter. Pull off two consecutive jabs or body blows and your Meter will fill one level. Depending on how long your flurry of punches lasts, your Breaker Meter will help you unleash anything from a Haybreaker (a standard uppercut) to a FaceBreaker (a match-ending vulgar display of power). Just be sure to time your attacks accordingly. If you get hit before you release your breaker, you'll be caught on the wrong end of a beat down with your meter on empty.
X's and Blows: Boxing is still called the Sweet Science for a reason, and amidst all of the broken ribs and bloody noses you'll need to employ some strategy to get past the preliminary title belts. Dodging your opponent's punches is almost as vital as landing yours. The best way to turn the momentum of a bout is to parry. Catch your opponent's glove with one hand and smash his exposed chin with your free fist. The knockout blows provide the excitement, but you can't get to the final punch without a plan.
Sofa King: According to the instruction booklet, the "Couch Royale" mode will "ruin all of your friendships." Anywhere from two to six players can enter a tournament and face off for living room supremacy. Once you've created a character to compete in "Couch Royale," you can track vanity stats, like fastest knockout, amongst your group of friends. If you pull off a FaceBreaker against one of your buddies, you get to mount his character's head like a game hunter. And that's about the time the friendship ends.
Take It Online: While "Brawl For It All," the game's primary single player mode, is lacking in replay value, you can keep the game fresh online. Set up a league to run tournaments or pad your stats to so you can take on similarly skilled pugilists in a ranked match.

Things We'd Change
Uncle!: Nothing feels better than jumping all over your rival with flying fists until they're practically begging for the bell to ring. But when you're on the receiving end of such a beat down, it grows increasingly frustrating. Like, scream-obscenities-at-the-TV-and-throw-your-controller-down-in-disgust frustrating. The fact is, no matter how much you play this game, you'll regularly run into a Breaker Meter-sapping combo from your opponent, and all the button mashing in the world won't get you out of it. Just be prepared to dust off the ol' "This controller needs to be charged" excuse.
Cramping Our Style: If you're lucky enough to make all that mashing count for something, it won't be without its punishment. After about three bouts, you'll find yourself feeling some ill-effects in your hand muscles. Make it past the first two belts in "Brawl For It All" mode, and you'll need someone to tie your shoes for a week. Most new boxing games rely on the toggle sticks

Quick and Basic Review

This game most diffidently held my attention for some hours. The graphics had a smooth cartoon shine to them. Nothing fantastic, but pleasing to the eyes. The real time facial damage during fights was a plus. The fighting was interesting but holds only a limited amount of things to do. punch, block, special move. Although combining punches to created a wicked combo was satisfying it usually ended up in a button mashing session to reach your special move "facebreaker". The customization is extremely fun in this game. Especially if you own a XBOX 360 Cam. Overall I found this game to be fun and satisfying. But it will probably stay on my shelve unless friends come over to play.Read full review...

Game is fun and challenging. If you like Punch Out! or Super Punch Out! you will enjoy this game. The ability to insert your own face into the game is cool, but note you need to won the xbox live vision camera to import pictures.Read full review...
