Good value but Fender didn't wind to spec

This is a '7.4K' set, meaning both pickups should have a DC resistive value of 7.4K. This is not the case. The neck pickup is close, 7.2K, but the bridge measures 6.5K. The set is OK sounding so you could do worse, but since I happen to dig 7.4k Tele bridge pickups, I was disappointed. The sound here is obviously brighter and I prefer something a bit 'fatter'.

So, I made the buy thinking I had successfully robbed a large bank - wow, a 7.4K set, prefect! Turns out that Fender did not deliver on their product description.

Great Pickups and good value

Nothing but praise for this set! I experienced these as part of an American Vintage '64 Tele I own, which is my #1. I wasn't satisfied with the Lollar pickups in my project Tele so put a set of these in and they are a much better fit. It taught me that I like this sound in a Tele better than the early 50s sound. The Lollars are amazing and would fit in an early 50s Tele but not this one. And they are a deal at their current price. I like the warmth they provide as well as clarity. They do well w/pedals of any kind and are remarkably complex/dense. The neck is smooth, warm and versatile. The bridge is classic and does both country and rock well. Nicely balanced set. The primary Tele sound I grew up with was Robbie Robertson's/ The Band so that was in my DNA (as Jim Campilongo says). This set gets closest in my opinion.Read full review...

Pure Vintage '64 Telecaster Pickup Set

To my ear these pickups have a smooth sound without nasty peaks on the bridge side. The neck is smooth as well with the mellowness it should have in that position. However they retain the "Buck Owens Twang" when needed.

To get the best sound be sure you have both volume & tone pots at 250K and the tone capacitor at .05uF. Also if the guitar has a treble bleed or grease bucket tone circuit, remove it. After all these are supposed to be "vintage". Also twist the pickup wires lightly to reduce hum pickup and before soldering the wires in the circuit cut off the bare ends and push the insulation back. When they stripped the wires at the factory they nicked the wire and it broke off as I installed it on both sets I used.

Lastly these pickups are getting harder to find these days.

Nice vintage sound

I installed these on a guitar that I pieced together. They are a little hotter than I expected as they seem to get loud pretty quick. The clean sound is nice and clear, the bridge pickup can push the amp pretty easy with a slight volume increase. The neck pickup measured 7.3K and bridge around 6.2K, the back of the package says they are both 7.4K which is not correct. I have seen other pure vintage '64 Telecaster pickups where the box is accurately labeled 7.4k neck and 6K bridge. I also have a Nashville Telecaster with Tex Mex pickups and I prefer the pure vintage '64 sounds over the Tex Mex pickups.Read full review...

Pure Vintage 64 pickups nail the tone!

Really impressed with this pickup set, regardless of its great price. The first bridge pickup that I've tried that really nails that 60s sparkly, twangy sound, but with no ice pick. I've never been a fan of Tele neck pickups, but this isn't muffled and completely useable. That balance works great in the middle position. The middle isn't RWRP so there is a little 60 cycle hum, but it's true to the vintage style of pickup. This is the third different set of pickups I've tried in this guitar, and they are never leaving.Read full review...

Genuine Fender Pure Vintage 64 Telecaster Pickup Set

I purchased this set for a 63 partscaster project I was building that already had a set of Lindy Frailin vintage telecaster pickups in it. However, the guitar sounder so good with the Frailins, that I couldn't bare removing them. However, I did install them in a Fender Paisley Telecaster that I had and the 64's vastly improved the sound of that guitar. Great volume without making the tone muddy or icepick sounding. I would buy these again in a heartbeat.Read full review...

Experimenting with my Telecaster. Replaced pickups to get the sound I'm looking for. I've tried other brands only to be disappointed. After replacing with these genuine Fender pickups I am blown away by the sound. They are amazing! I truly wish I had tried these first..Read full review...

Goodbye tele blandness, hello tele bada**

My guitar tech buddy suggested these pickups and a 4 way switch to liven my bland tele. Holy cow! For $90 these things transformed the instrument. It always well but now it sounds amazing. Ultra clean bridge, ripping bridge twang and very well balanced together. The 4 way switch mod adds a super boost mode that gives swampy loud gritty goodness. Don't hesitate. This is a splurge you deserve.Read full review...

Great tones, nice and balanced, easy to install.

I put these Fender Vintage '64 pickups in my Squier Affinity Telecaster; what a difference! The orig. pickups worked, but these are so much better. The sound has gone from 1, to 3 dimensions! The neck pickup is punchy, warm and colorful, while the bridge has a tight, howling mid with a crisp twang, much better than the brittle sound of my orig. bridge pickup. A little adjustment on the tone knob goes a long way in finding a rich variety of sounds. I'm finally getting inspiring tones out of this inexpensive axe, sweet!Read full review...

Great genuine Fender pickup at great value.

Very good pickup, great value. Much clearer and crisper than a typical Tele neck pickup. Not much bass at all, but not muddy or mushy, great for blues tones.
