Contrary to what the critics tell you, this really IS a story well-told. Square Pictures went bankrupt telling this story due to the complexity of the CGI done (it was very far ahead of it's time and is still, by current standards, pretty amazing). The story is complicated and, generally, the public don't like complicated - they also don't like stories that seem, in essence, to be of an environmental nature as many have stated about the story line. HOWEVER, sometimes a complicated story is a good one and, in this case, it is. Also, the "environmental" issue at hand seems to be more of spirituality (NOT religious in nature, mind you) than an environmentally preachy film like Ferngully or the abomination Happy Feet. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within

I received a PSP as a gift and was looking for movie that I thought I might enjoy that was available as a UMD (the format used by the PSP). I bought this movie after seeing the quality of the animation in a comercial, I also knew that the movie was based on a game and that it was a Sci-Fi movie. I enjoyed the movie very much. At times it was easy to forget that I was watching an animated film because it was all so lifelike. The story line was not terribly deep but still interesting; the use of recognized actors for the voices was a definite plus. I suspect I'll watch the movie a couple of more times just to be able to take in all of the great details in the animation.Read full review...

Very impressive CG. The game Final Fantasy does not have to be played in order to understand the plot. A blend of sci-fi and action creates a extraordinary film that may be in the budget bin.

Awesome movie!

I had never played Final Fantasy until a couple of years ago and I am saddened that I had missed out on it until then! I owned a Super Nintendo when I was little but always played the Mario games and never tried these. I highly recommend you play it and own it but I will warn you it's very addicting!Read full review...

The title is like some kind of sick joke...

This has absolutely NOTHING to do with final fantasy as a series. That being said, I still enjoyed the story, it's something that any fan of science fiction would enjoy.

Great Movie

this was once of squares best films although not liked by the mainstream audience. giving lifelike features to CGI was a revolutionary step in animation. this movie was actually the reason for a lot of other amazing films.

Great!

This is a great movie for a sci-fi fan. The graphics are awesome (so real you can't believe it at times) and there is tons of action lasting until the end. There is alot in this movie: action, drama, romance, thrill, suspence, sci-fi, adventure. This really fits anyone that loves science movies and well rendered computer graphics!Read full review...
