Question Mark

I've been a FF fan for awhile but after Final Fantasy 10-2(or the disaster as i call it ) I've been kind of lost on the direction of Final Fantasy . Well Final Fantasy 12 was good but the story line..... anyway I played Final Fantasy 13 for about 2 hours and was completely lost, I had no idea what was going on and who the people were in the game . The game just kind of throws you into the world and doesn't really explain itself . It just like goes through like you're supposed to know whats going on and the tutorials that comes up a lot helps but i don't know. In Final Fantasy 10 (which i consider to be the best FF) you start of with a character you connect with you can name and see life through his eyes. then they start you of in a little small town where you can meet the characters and get a general idea of whats going on and who you're fighting. plus the story line slowly eases you into the plot and game play. But this game throws you in a battlefield, well not a battle field like place being burned down , then they throw in some unrelatable characters that you can tell are part of the storyline . but i haven't played nearly long enough to say i dislike the game. As far as graphics go its really good, the battle system could be much better, and the story line could be more subtle.
if i were to rate this game i'd give it a 7/10 the graphics really save this game for me .

You are paying for the graphics

Final Fantasy XIII has been to my opinion, is one of the worst game plays of recent final fantasy games. Almost every map is just a narrow path that you follow; encountering monster after monster, boss fight, and then end of chapter. The battles with certain teams up have almost put me to sleep since all they do it stand there and shoot their guns or wave their wands. And the creativity with the names is some of the worst I seen so far, i.e. Lighting, Snow, Hope, Fang… list continues
The upgrade feature they used to increase the power of your weapons and items I believe to be rather stupid to put it simple, since you hardly make any Gil in the game till later when you encounter monsters that give you Gil upon beating them (which is on the 3rd disc [Xbox]) and to top it all off you can’t return to previous maps you have been until much later in the game, again disc 3, but you are only able to return to a few maps as far as I am aware since I am still near the beginning of the 3rd disc.
Now, on the other hand, the graphics in this game as well as the sound are five star and the story line and length of game play are excellent. I am not saying that this is a bad game to get by any means, but I would have been mad if I paid the starting retail price when it first came out instead of the 20 bucks used. I just expected much more from the creators of Final Fantasy that I was used to in my childhood years.

Quite a Let Down

The graphics in this game are absolutely incredible and is the leading factor in why the rating is high. The storyline, however, is a bit weak; it's not really boring but rarely does it have any real engaging moments where you "can't put the controller down". Also, unlike earlier FF, XIII doesn't allow for the free roaming of the various areas you visit. Yes, every now and then there's a nook where you can find another treasure orb but for the most part, everything is pretty much laid out in front and your only choices are to move forward or backward (for whatever reason) and move forward again. Moving from side to side, like in XII where you could travel freely among the areas, is almost never seen throughout the bulk of the game. This whole lack of freedom is pretty tiresome and boring for a while and until you get to disc 3, there's no escaping it. Honestly, if the first two discs were like the last where you really get the only true freedom to either deviate from the main storyline and explore the world or treck on, maybe this title would have been a bit more enjoyable and memorable. Unless this game gets an impressive DLC later, this is probably going to the bottom of the stack because it's honestly not worth playing a second time.

However, if you like flashy graphics and could care less about my personal regards toward the storyline (Avatar anyone?) then by all means go for it. I would HIGHLY recommend renting this game first just to get a feel for it before committing to buying this because this may be just what you're looking for but just in case, it's always nice to have a opt out, right?

Great Graphics!

There are alot of things I love about this game and some that I don't. I love the graphics in this game. Square Enix really took it to the next level. I also really like the more complex battle sequences. However, I do wish that this game had had a little better plot line to it and enabled a bit more free roam and interaction with people. Granted, I still do have a ways to go in the game, but from what I've seen so far, the game has just consisted of a lot of cut scenes, enemy battles, and walking down paths that have already been set out before you. However, It's still captivating enough to keep me coming back to it. So let's see how the rest of the game pans out.Read full review...

Final Fantasy XIII for Xbox 360 - Quick Review

Played through about 95% so far. The game has excellent visuals and is easy to master. As far as all the negative reviews of the Xbox version missing out on detail in the graphics I can say that on a 42" screen the game looks sharp with vivid colors and that most wont miss the little bit of extra resolution certainly not durring motion shots. This game has loads and loads and loads of cut scenes which work to its detriment. It almost like watching a movie with battle sequences in between the clips. It would be nice to have more subplots and dialogue in the style of other RPG's like Mass Effect 2. Its also missing the open world feel of some of the previous games. In my opinon Mass Effect 1 & 2 are head and shoulders above this game due to the games linear feel. Possibly worth picking up to enjoy the artwork and story as it unfolds but I certainly wouldnt pay full price for this one. The game play style is lacking compared to the better RPG's out their and Im sure that will ring true for PS3 and Xbox fans out there. After playing though the majority of the game I find it gets dull after about 1/3 the way through as you are subjected to hundreds of cutscenes. Eventually this leads to boredom which is why I dropped my scrore to average. I wouldnt recomend unless your an avid Final Fantasy fan. Happy Gaming!Read full review...

Great game for fans of the series

Before buying this, I read 2 main critiques of the game. The first being that it is too linear. If you have also read that the game is linear, bear in mind that most of the reviews claiming that the game is linear are written by people who aren't used to the J-RPG genre, FF games are linear by nature, so if you enjoyed previous FF games, the linearity will not bother you. Think FFX level of linearity. The second main critique is that the game is too slow at the beginning, specifically in the battles. The reason the battles are "slow" or monotonous, is because the game is trying to slowly integrate each part of the complex battle system so that the player does not get overwhelmed. If you played FFVIII, you may recall that you were still being taught aspects of battle well in to the game, FFXIII had a similar feel for me.
As always, the game looks and sounds beautiful. No FF game would be complete without an overly perky female protagonist, and in this game that perky girl is Vanille. Her over the top voice acting may annoy some, but I thought it was funny, and I have come to be used to it throughout all the FF games I have played.
The one complaint that I have is that the story wasn't as gripping as previous FF games, perhaps because there is no strong romantic element that has become so associated with FF games.
Overall, a great game, definitely worth the low cost you can find on eBay.

THE definition of a JRPG

If you do not like the eastern take on role playing games, then this game definitely will not change your mind. Final Fantasy games are about telling emotional stories or at least they try whether or not they mean something is completely subjective. Final Fantasy 13 does boast a compelling turn based fighting (battle) system. Although it takes roughly a dozen hours or so until you unlock the entire system. The story is intriguing although the dialogue can make you cringe. If you're a fan of the previous games then by all means jump in, but if you've been weaned on "western" rpg's like Mass Effect and Fallout 3 then you will most likely be disappointed with this game. Know what you're getting into before purchasing this game. If turn based combat and selecting abilities from a list with deep tactical meaning doesn't sound like fun to you then this is not the game you are looking for.Read full review...

Something that you may need to know about this great game, FF13!

Final Fantasy 13 a incredible RPG that goes with the standar of the tecknology! Incredible graphics (1080HD resolution) I could say the vest graphics I have seen so far in a gameplay standart (the game graphics are as goods as the video) Storyline is over the top the only minus I could say about this game is that it have no area to explorer and if you past a area that you have pass before (like to get your expiriance to a higher level or morepoint to add to your equipment)is exacly the same monster that you have all ready encaunter in exacly the same place!

Out that is a most have game and soon to be release (by begening of 2012) Final Fantasy 13 part 2 ;p

Okay game, but FFXII is cheaper and has a better story

Great game, and graphics, however does not live up to the Final Fantasy XIII the story is lacking, and one does not really feel any affection towards charcters and their emotions. Lightning also has a recycled personality following those of kimari from FF X
Cloud from FF VII terra from ff VI and squail from FF VIII
in which the charcters always keep to themselves and are often quiet, however care about a certain person none the less, dont buy the game if you have played other Final Fantasy games, however this game is a okay if you are not use to other Final Fantasy games.
