Affordable Alternative

Anyone who has bought, used, and had to replace the Berkey water filter system will know that the expense of replacing the filter units these daze (days) makes one think of alternative methods by which to filter the water we drink. However, the initial expense of purchasing one or more of the Berkey systems would make the decision to choose another type of system difficult, and besides, they do work quite well, and are simple to use. Finding a less expensive source for the filtering units to the rather expensive Berkey brand filters are a treat, especially given the fact that they look and fit the same as the Berkey brand, and seem to perform just as well. My only complaint, and it is not of the filters themselves, is the fact that the filtered water from the containers are in constant contact with the plastic secondary fluoride filters, which can not be too healthy, and may negate the benefits of filtering the water.Read full review...

cant compare to originals, but these definitely do the trick

got these filters for my first berkey and they primed and installed without incident. i have not used the original berkey filters, so i have nothing to compare these to. however, they filter the water out really well and the water tastes amazing. ive been drinking double the amount of water now. i had a party this past weekend and one of my guests tried the water out of my berkey royal with these filters and he went out and bought the whole setup the very next day. im a bit of a water snob and i typically love to drink fiji water and honestly, i feel that the filters made the water taste comparable if not better than premium bottled options. i have to say im very happy so far with these filters. its stuck in the back of my mind if the real ones are better, but i guess i wont know for a couple years after this set has run its course.Read full review...

Using a TDS tester tap water showed 35ppm solids and after filtering still 35ppm. I noticed the water empties rather fast while filtering as compared to the other more expensive brand.
