Full Metal Jacket

Marine recruits (including Mathew Modine and Vincent D'Onofrio to name
a few) endure the grueling ordeal of Marine Boot Camp and later face the
unrelenting attacks during the 1968 Tet Offensive by the NVA and Viet
Cong troops. The action includes the re-taking of Hua City after the
city falls to the enemy - by the Marines. It is one of the most authentic
depictions of the Vietnam war ever put on the big screen-especially
concerning the Tet batttle. The movie really teems with howling madness
as the boots go through the training and you follow them from their
haircuts to the shooting range during the movie. But also includes the
stark images of slaughter of the schoolteacher and political officials
of the city of Hua by the VC. Very accurate in the attack sequences and
the sniper attacks upon the Marine squads in the way they actually happened
and this movie will be enjoyed by all who like War movies or Vietnam war
flix. This movie will be enjoyed by all that like those types of movies,
or Ex-Marines - who may get a laugh at remembering the days of boot camp,
because this as real as it gets in a movie. The director of this movie,
Stanley Kubrick, is a real professional with many hits (The Shining, 2001:
A Space Odyssey, Paths of Glory, A Clockwork Orange, etc) and this movie
comes very close to being his best work ever.

Like the old Lincoln ad - The Real Thing

This is a good movie. Vietnam era is always going to lend itself to sad situations that are normal for humans. The noble and miserable moments are consist with the time. Persons divided by the events remain so until death. Read full review...

Full Metal Jacket( DVD, 2007)

I purchased this product because I am learning everything I can about the late, great MASTER Director Stanley Kubrick.

What I liked about the product was the near-perfect production values in this movie; Kubrick knew how to make a movie.

There was nothing to dislike about the product.

Yes I would recommend this product to a friend.

Review of Full Metal Jacket

Full Metal Jacket is one of the two best movie descriptions of Marine Corp Boot Camp. The other one is The DI starring Jack Webb made in 1957. The language used in FMJ, made in 1987 was not allowed in 1957. While the language in FMJ is more realistic, I think it goes a little overboard. Watch The DI and you will see that the desired effect can be achieved without the foul language. R. Lee Ermey in FMJ was an ex-marine DI so that added authenticity to the movie. In The DI most of the cast were real Marines and not actors. Watch both of them and see what you think.Read full review...
