A Definite 5 Star Read

I discovered Daniel Silva in 1996 after he published “The Unlikely Spy” and have been reading him annually ever since. With the introduction of protagonist Gabriel Allon in “The Kill Artist,” I was definitely ready for more, much more. And, I have never been disappointed. In “Fallen Angel,” the 12th installment concerning Allon, an art restorer and lethal assassin (quite a professional combination – especially considering he is tops in both fields), Silva once again delivers the goods. I’ll not cover the plot, save to say that our hero (once again working on restoring an art masterpiece – this time in the Vatican), must uncover devious plots by criminal masterminds (involving stolen and black market antiquities), solve a seemingly unsolvable mysterious death (most think suicide, he thinks murder) and escape with his life (which he does pretty well, considering some of the messes he gets into). Silva writes with great style…he has very good character development, excellent plot lines and his words flow relatively easy making for a very entertaining read. And, after all, once you finish reading a book you want to feel you got your money’s worth. No problem with “Fallen Angel.” One difference in this work by Silva is that the action occurs almost entirely within one country, Italy. No globe-trotting for Allon in this one. And that is fine. In fact, I hardly noticed it as I was so engrossed in the story. My biggest problem with Silva, in general, is that I typically end up reading more and sleeping less, not wanting to put the book down. That said, I wouldn’t have it any other way. There is plenty in “Fallen Angel” for anyone who enjoys a fast-paced, action-packed thrill ride. A definite 5 star read.Read full review...
