Best GPS screen for 5 inch!

I really love the Nuvi 3490 and 3590 GPS's. The clarity and detail of the screens are unbelievable. My favorite is the 3490 with a 4.3" screen because the unit is so compact it easily fits in my purse. The 3590 is substantially larger, but if you need/want the larger screen, as my husband does, it has all the same excellent features as the 3490. I deducted one point because the unit feels awkward when clipping it into the windshield mount, and the power button is on the left instead of the right side - also awkward.Read full review...

Needing automotive GPS across country

My son and his family relocated to North Carolina. I wanted an easy way to travel and visit them on a regular basis. The 3590LMT exceeded my expectations. I could go on and talk about all the great features such as split screen navigation, voice operated directions, finding restaurants/gas station in-route but would take quite a bit of room in this review. I've used the Garmin going to Michigan, Minnesota, Indiana and to the Carolinas from Ohio. Getting thru Chicago would have been a nightmare but was a breeze with this unit. The traffic warning system is awesome as it works extremely well for backup, slowups or rerouting as it gives plenty of time to respond. You can plan trips, prior to traveling, at home or at your kitchen table and then save it for the future. Since I don't have a smart phone, I wish it had weather updates. Other than that, its been a blessing to own and use it. No more printed maps to worry about for me. Its stress-free navigation at its best.Read full review...

Awesome GPS! Please tell me where to go!!

This is such a great little GPS that I bought it twice, my first one got misplaced somehow a couple months ago. Rather than upgrading to a newer model this one has all the features I liked. Took it on a 4 day 400 mile trip and it performed flawlessly every time. It's easy to mount and use, compact enough to drop in your pocket or purse to use when you're walking. The 5" display is bright, sharp and easy to see day or night. With voice activation you don't have distraction of having to type in your destination you just say it and this GPS finds it for you. Then it ask you if you want to start navigation?

It gives you current traffic updates on accidents or backup and length of delay. And it can re-route you to a faster way of getting where you need to go. If you have no sense of directions you can just say "Home" and it will guide you there. Like "American Express" don't leave home or go on a trip without it!!Read full review...

Excellent Choice!

Never had a GPS before and this one suited my needs well. I used it on a driving trip of 4 hrs and it was point on in every detail. Voice is clear, visuals and small details were helpful, and re-routing mistakes were easily enough remedied. The size is comfortable. It is thin and lightweight, yet feel like a solid electronic. The screen is bright and clear. Setting up is easy, and I need easy! The only thing I couldn't get it to do was connect it to my Bluetooth in my car, which would have served me better. I had to keep my radio low, to hear the directions, instead of it speaking through my car speakers. It wouldn't read the car, and the car BT could not pick it up. It may have been my lack of know how to do this.

Overall, I would highly recommend this product. I find it to be one of the finest upgrades Garmin made. I only gave it 4 stars because I got it not only for the GPS features, but the Bluetooth capability, which was my buying motive, without having to use data on my phone--and that didn't work in the way I had hoped. Terrific GPS Receiver at a Great Value

Having little knowledge regarding hand held devices let alone GPS receivers, I was intimidated at first. But after reading the downloaded and quick start manuals and then going through the online device menu, I was surprised how easy it is to use. Battery charging time is very fast and excellent charge retention. We have used this product several times and was surprised on its effectiveness. The only annoying experience was setting it up to be registered and to download an updated map of North America. Since my DSL connection speed is relatively slow, it took several hours for downloading to complete. Features that I like are saving multiple trips, displaying points of various interest, restaurants etc., bright screen, readily understandable voice prompts, inputting a town or city and then looking at the choices for points of interest. This unit was well worth the purchased price. It was listed as factory reconditioned but it came brand new out of the box. No scratches or missing parts. All the cables were new and everything fit as described. The only function that we haven't tried yet is the voice commands! Excellent item! Very pleased!Read full review...

What´s with Garmin?

I love this unit - pocketable, fast. But they no longer make it.
The new one is bigger and clunkier - I bought one and although it is nice enough, I prefer the smaller thinner one. So, as they break or get lost, I buy used ones. Waaaaaaaa.

No issue with refurbished!

My last 3 Garmins have been refurbished, and all came with the same 1 year warranty as a new one. Not a single one had any obvious signs of wear or even normal use.
And each one worked perfectly.r>Yes, you can get a bad refurbished unit, you can also get a defective brand new unit.
If you resell, your account can be transferred to the new owner (free AFAIK) so they can keep getting the free maps and traffic updates.

Biggest difference I found was the price! If that is not important to you then by all means purchase new. If you do get refurbished make sure it was done by Garmin!
Also avoid any used units that were opened to replace the battery or any other repair not done by factory techs.Read full review...

This was flagship Garmin in 2012. Still has better features than most new models today. GREAT $$ Value in refurb/ as-new closeouts. Only real negative is the companion Garmin APP only works for Android Smart phones. Can be useful to extend weather info to screen.

For iPhone junkies, consider the refurb. offers on newest 3597LMT. That one has the magnetic mount which is extra nice. (for $240.00 )

Fantastic User Friendly GPS with ALL the bells and whistles!!

I absolutely love my Garmin 3490LMT! Very easy to use, and the screen is very touch responsive. Two great features are the split screen when approaching an exit, and the voice command. I would recommend this unit of Garmin to anyone looking for a great full featured GPS.Read full review...

Great Garmin GPS 4/5...

I bought this unit to replace one that was lost by the airline. It was an upgrade from the 2555 I had. It has many great features some of them being, great screen resolution, ease of touch, fast processor, Bluetooth, voice control, external speaker and main power is to docking port. (can be plugged into unit if needed) The only two issues I have had is the power cord is shorter than most and the gloss screen does have a lot of reflections on it.Read full review...
