Accurate and reliable.

I purchased a Garmin Nuvi 1350 six years ago and have had great success using it. At the time I purchased it it was the only brand that accurately located the location of a house I owned. As an American Red Cross disaster volunteer I use this to find my way around on the back roads of rural Missouri and Illinois. Was amazed at the completeness and the accuracy of the road map. Most of the time as a volunteer I use it in responding to floods and flash floods that often block roads. This requires finding alternate routes to get to the required location and the Garmin Nuvi 1350 proved indispensable in these circumstances. Over the six years that I have used this unit I have never had a problem with it, found the display clear and informative, easy to use, and the voice that is used is clear and easily understood. I have recently purchased four more of these units so I no longer have to move the original unit from one vehicle to another. All are proving to be just as reliable and useful.Read full review...

Mostly good

For driving it did very well while I was visiting in France. The drawback is when using it in pedestrian mode. I never really got it to work right. I changed it to bicycle mode which took a longer route than walking. So that really wasn't a good fit either. So, I switched it back to driving mode when I was walking. The battery lasted about 1 - 2 hours while in use.Read full review...

Garmin Nuvi Automotive 1350 GPS receiver

I bought it because my Magellan does not stay on; it has some sort of connection problem. I bought the 1350 Garmin because I didn't need the traffic feature provided by the 1350T. I may have been too hasty as traffic in this area changes quickly, especially during the Summer when tourists flock to NH and ME. The voice of the unit is kind of mumbled and there does not seem to be any way to change to another voice. My Magellan, at least, offered a male or female voice. This one doesn't. I have yet to try it out on the road as I just charged it for 4 hours and set it up with basic functions. It looks like it should work out just fine. I like the POI function and the fact that I can delete some listings that no longer exist, such as a restaurant the I know is out of business. Garmin also gave me a free map update which I downloaded onto the unit via my computer. Another good feature is that you can download city maps for use in navigating a city on foot. It even gives Subway and other public transportation locations. Neat!Read full review...

Great product

The unit arrived exactly as described, but missing one of the accessiories (dash mount). Didn't bother me at all, because I use mine directly attached to the windshield.

It has a very fast processor, solves routes much faster then my other GPS. The spoken routing is very accurate, and get most of the speaking without any accent in Portuguese language (don't know how much this matters but...)

For new buyers: it took about 15-20 minutes to acquire the green signal on the first time I turned it on. I looked on some internet forums, and it happens once in a while, so be pacient.

Pros: fast processor, reliable sattelite signal (does not loose signal easily), nice interface, beautiful bright screen, reasonable price.

Cons: no FM transmitter or Bluetooth, no map management directly on the unit, no dash mount (at least for me).

Bottomline: I would buy it again.

GPS 1350

This is a great GPS. I bought it to replace of my old unit & found there is a huge difference between the two.

a) performance - performance to detect the satellite signal of 1350 is very good. It detects the signal within seconds as compared to my old one, which sometimes takes more than a minute.
b) design - it's slim, good looking and well built.
c) When you switch on/off the engine of the car, the unit will automatically switch on/off if you connect it to the car charger My old unit does not do that. The battery will drain if I forget to turn off the GPS,
d) The interface - It is simple and user friendly. Great functions and features.

Having said that, there are things about the unit that I dislike.
1. I am from Malaysia. I bought this GPS from eBay cause it is about USD120 cheaper than Malaysia. I l found out later, if I were to buy Garmin that is not the Malaysia version, it would have no Junction View feature. I found this absolutely absurd. Why the double standard? Who is Garmin trying to protect, the resellers who try to sell at a higher price or the consumer who is buying Garmin?

2. Malaysia, due to its enthusiastic mapper community we have produced some custom icons on the map. The icons will display logos of banks, restaurants, fuel stations, shops on the map as you travel. I found that is an exciting feature cause it provides a lot of details the location you are at. These custom icons were supported in the older version of Garmin e.g. 205, 255 or 255w, but was not available in 1350.

I think Garmin should overcome these shortcomings.

Not too excited about the GARMIN name now,,

OK first let me say YES this will get you from point A to point B fairly well BUT,,,,

My 2 biggest disappointments are,,

1) I would have thought being able to store pre-plotted routes would be GPS 101 but NO you can not store routes, just Favorite places. So if it routes you an odd way you just have to live with it or add via's each time.

2) DO NOT USE GARMIN UPDATE!!!! I could use any mini USB power supply to run the unit UNTIL I did a Garmin update for the OS, now you can ONLY use a Garmin power source,, NOT COOL GARMIN!! My real issue here is the cord for Garmin power supply is thicker than what I was using and doesn't lay/hang as nice especially on my "T" unit. The traffic feature is not within the unit but the power cord, this thing looks like small jumper cables, not friendly at all.

This is NOT a fluke I have 4 of these units and all 4 did the same thing. When Called, Garmin tech support was of no help at all,, mission accomplished now they sell more power supplys.

Sliding the map view around with your finger is frustrating as it just isn't very good at it. It either won't move, moves too far (like a whole screen from where you stop your finger) or it will think you pressed that spot and pull up info on that location.

Someone mentioned that it shuts off when you turn the key off, none of mine do this, my guess their power source works with the ignition and isn't constantly on.

Other than what I have said the unit is pretty intuitive to use and for what I paid not a bad purchase.

Heads up though the new models coming out will have the ability to store routes (up to 100)

I suggest looking at all the features on Garmins site, know what they mean to you and compare them to models, had I done my homework properly I would NOT have the 1350/1350T.

And,,,,,, DO NOT USE GARMIN UPDATE!!!!!!!!

In regard to Garmin it is a nice toy, I mainly use it for orientation, speed, elevation, and timing to a destination

In regard to Garmin it is a nice toy, I mainly use it for orientation, speed, elevation, and timing to a destination
Sometimes it is a pain in the ass when trying to type in a word. I have to make sure it responds to my finger.
The speed function is really nice since some of speedometers are off .i.e my VW Passat and BMW K1200LT which reads high. And if you have a vehicle with (I think) larger tires will read a lower speed. It also has the a posted speed limit in your position which is nice for me. I have two. I was also told by Garmin the map layout of the map, colors, etc. may be different for each unit. I just the visual presentation of the 1350.

awesome, great device wide screenPersonal navigation devices are designed to be portable. But the small screens which pocket friendliness entails can be a little hard to read. Larger devices are available, but they're not common, and usually priced according to their size. Garmin clearly intends to change all that with the nuvi 1490T. Where most widescreens have a 4.3in diagonal, the 1490T's extends to 5in. Despite its large screen, the nuvi 1490T is not particularly hefty or fat. In fact, it's no heavier than TomTom's GO 740 LIVE, a mere 4.3in widescreen device, and a little bit thinner. The screen mount is a simple suction cup and clip system, leaving you to connect the mini-USB-based car power adapter. The latter also incorporates the necessary aerial and FM receiver hardware for picking up RDS-TMC updates, a UK subscription for which the 1490T includes. Garmin has given its interface a mild update, for a slightly cleaner appearance. This wasn't strictly necessary, as Garmin's design is about the most logical on the market, with a clear hierarchy between the features you will use all the time and those you will call upon less frequently. The most amusing update is the section where you can change the car icon. This looks like a large 3D showroom, with a ceiling spotlight picking out your current selection. Not exactly useful,Read full review...

An excellent GPS for the money!

This is my second Garmin but I have also owned a TomTom. What I really like about Garmin products are their ease of use, the TomTom products are not nearly as easy to use. The things that I like about the new 1350T are it's compact size & light weight, the screen format, the live traffic, and it's map/navigation accuracy. Something that I don't like about the 1350T is that the touch screen has a delayed response and is not sensitive enough. All-in-all, this is an excellent GPS for the money!Read full review...

Awesome. I named her Molly Mae (female voice)

I'm really impressed with my nuvi 1350. I purposly try to confuse it and so far I haven't been succesful. It's super fast when acquiring your position and equally fast when re-calulating if you stray from it's itenerary. The wide screen is (4.3 inch) very nice and the 2 and 3D display is awesome.

Some time ago I read a previous review that left the impression that there was no feature on the nuvi 1350 that would tell you which direction (N, S, E, W and in betweens)you were going while driving. Well..There Is! and that feature is available by touching the screen (on whatever is next to the back arrow)on the screen after you have selected a a destination and "GO". It will be on the lower left side of the screen. By touching what's next to the back arrow, it will give you the following choices:

1. Estimated Time Of Arrival
2. Distance to destination
3. Estimated Time To Destination
4. "DIRECTION OF TRAVEL"
5. Elevation
6. Time of day

Just choose the one you prefer...then touch "OK" :-)

I am a 67 year old retired male, and have seen lots of changes in my life, but the Garmin (GPS) has to rate way up there on most useful and amazing technological inventions. LOTS OF KUDOS FROM ME...GO GARMIN!!!!
