Only for the real fans - too much about drugs and addiction.

Okay, let me first say that I am a huge Glenn Hughes fan. In my opinion he is the voice of rock and roll - so it was with much anticipation that I snatched up this book. I knew about his drug problems but I had no idea how BAD it really was. It's one of those love hate relationships with a book. On one level I wanted more from my vocal hero but on another enough was enough. I wanted stories from the past about his humble beginnings, the people he came across, great times, great situations in rock and roll. There is a bit of that in there but most of it was brief mentions that were quickly cast aside for stories of drug use and paranoia. I am truly amazed at the body of work he was still able to deliver given that every waking minute was spend searching for things to feed his voracious habit. I'm also amazed that man is still living. But I found the book a bit empty. More of a addict's story. I can only image what Glenn could have been if he wasn't high all the time. I get it. He hoped that by telling his story that he could touch just one addict to get help and it would have been a success. Done. So now, Glenn, go back and write the book with all of the rock and roll stories, situations and incredible people you met along the way. (and leave the drugs as the sideline) This book will leave you feeling a bit empty and questioning your choice of a rock and roll idol. That's just my opinion.Read full review...

Interesting enought but unstructured and repetitive

Fairly interesting book about Glenn Hughes, more a collection of stories and vignettes than a structured biography. The timeline seems to jump around a lot and there is repetition in the content. You don't really get to know much about other members of bands he was in, plus there are some stories from people like unknown mates of his who used to look after his house in LA which aren't very interesting. Plus, did i mention Glenn's voracious appetite for drugs? Don't worry, he does, many many many times and what it will do to you. Interesting that he contests some of the stories about himself told by people like Jon Lord and Gary Moore while he was so out of it at those times it seems unlikely that Glenn's version is correct. Regardless, an interesting book for fans of Purple and Glenn Hughes, worth it if you can pick it up for a few bucks. some interesting stuff about him and Bowie.Read full review...
