In far too many cases an older movie which is "converted" to a modern format takes on the appearance of it being photoshopped, so to speak and the charm and bauty of the original is lost. thisis not the case in this one. the movie appears (excepting for the superior color and clarity) to be exactly as the original was. BluRay version far superior to DVD

As far as the film itself is concerned, all the superlatives have already been used to describe it and I wouldn't presume to add my two cents. I have the DVD version and I can say that the BluRay is far superior in terms of clarity. The DVD is very dark and a lot of detail is masked. "Gone With The Wind" is one of the best movies ever made. It has the most engaging characters in Scarlett and Rhett, (Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable,) and wonderful Hattie McDaniel as "Mammy," in her Oscar winning role, as the conscience of the film. Olivia de Havilliand shines also as "Melanie," as do all the supporting players. It is the story of survival.
