They were so good so many years ago it's unreal.
Amazing how great this band was in 1966. Especially Jerry's guitar playing. And Bill was the lone drummer at the time and it comes through loud and clear just how he kept things rolling. Wow! The Vox Continental keyboard of Pigpen's really does give their sound a very 60s-ish feel only heard during this period in time. I wish he played a Hammond B3. But it's still cool.
Pretty bluesy set but not entirely.
I only have this concert from 1965 by them and I'll probably keep it that way. It's such a good show and probably can't be topped from that year seeing as their catalog wasn't as vast as it would be going forward. Each new year saw more and more beautiful tunes , thank God for recorded music and for the Grateful Dead. I still am blown away everytime I hear a concert of theirs. Of course some shows were less inspired than others. But there is so much more of their stuff that is , than any other band in history. That's undeniable.Read full review...

This album epitomizes that sound. Read full review...
