A great phone, perfect for anyone who is starting out with Androids.

I bought this as an unlocked but previously unused phone and saved a lot of money in doing so. I popped in my sim card, set it all up and the phone has worked great ever since.
Before purchasing the phone, I did research. I wanted a phone that gave me easy access to my social networks; Facebook and Twitter. Also my friend had a Desire S at the time and I really liked the interface. The only bad things about it are the fact there is no card slot on the outside of the phone; you have to take the back off it to access the memory card and apparently the wifi isn't as strong if you have your hand over the back of the phone while you're using the wifi.
The phone has a sturdy case, made of aluminum and a "Gorilla Glass" screen. It's very easy to use with all the normal android functions such as pinch zooming and good space to download apps. It comes with an 8gb memory card inside. You can customise the home screen and the six other screens so you have all the things you need close at hand. It would be more useful if there was a camera button on the side of the phone but you can put a shortcut on the home screen to access the camera fast when you need it.
It runs well when several apps are running and doesn't slow down. You can also force close apps as well if you have a lot running. You can download themes from the HTC site, accessable from the phone and it comes with a variety of ringtones though of course you can add your own and make it personal. It's a very customisable phone. You can even buy cases for it to cover the back. I have a brushed aluminum purple case. The camera on it is decent, both for taking pictures and recording videos and it has a flash. You can take photos of yourself with it though the flash won't work on those due to its position on the phone. The photos come out better when the flash is used. You can watch YouTube videos on it and games run smoothly.

Good comfortable phone to use.

I bought this phone as a back up to my samsung s2.
I found it good looking and smart and the size just right.
However i found it a tag too heavy but you could get used to that!.
find it quite easy to use and enough data for my use.But i have found it difficult to get on to my email and need to see a technition to help me as i cant get on to GMail!I dont know why not.Nevertheless i will get there-haha!
Over all i like the phone.
touch screen very good and also the key pad simple and all quick.

Very nice phone :)

This is a very nice smartphone and much better than new phones around 150€. The 1 GHz processor still handles very well the tasks given to it and it has a nice screen resolution (480x800).
As downsides, the battery life sucks. Using it to play games or surfing the internet makes the battery disappear in no time. The 5MP camera also feels a bit cheap. Nevertheless, this is a great value for money smartphone.Read full review...

The phone is amazing brilliant design and interface.

I was trying to find a phone for little sister as she wanted to upgrade from Samsung Android phone which she said was the worst phone ever. It lacks the design and made out cheap plastic and the Android Interface was usually very slow.

Did a little research and noticed that HTC phone have great built quality and I have also like the home screen interface that comes on the HTC Sense. All I had to do was find a phone that would fit my budget and came across HTC Desire S which runs application very smoothly.

Even though I bought a second hand phone, it still look pretty solid. Best Purchased made and my little sister spends a lot of time on it and likes the phone a lot.

Top quality, easy to use phone. Great to access apps and the internet.

This was my first smart phone having looked at many and plumped for this one. It is easy to use, I can access all of the apps that I need (which aren't many, not into downloading every app going) and view everything on a nice clear quality screen. It's not too small or too big, just perfectly sized for me. The phone works well and is clear. I am with Vodafone and use their sure signal box provides 3G signal at all times in the house as I live in a poor signal area.
I did not buy the phone for its camera as I own a top quality DSLR for that purpose. I was expecting poor battery life but as long as you don't live on your apps, stream a lot, I can get about two days of battery life which is more than I expected.
All in all, a well made, rigid feel to the phone which I hope will last me a very long time as I'm not one to chop and change every twelve months.I have purchased a rubber case and screen protector to ensure its protected as long as possible. Well done HTC.

HTC Desire S - Ideal Smartphone, a brilliant phone and hard to beat

I looked at a few android smartphones before deciding on the HTC Desire S, and I have not been disappointed. My current contract came to an end and I decided to buy a phone and get a cheap contract instead of paying a much higher amount for a “free” phone over a longer period. The Desire S is not one of the larger phones but has a big screen, easy to use menus and - after a little help from a younger member of my family (?!) – I was off into the world of apps. I LOVE this phone. I have purchased several covers, different colours, and change them regularly to give the phone a different look. I get my emails regularly and can go on line anytime I like. The camera takes great pictures and I am particularly fond of the live wallpapers which are easily downloaded. Oh, and you can make calls and send texts too!!!!! Thinking of buying an HTC Android phone? You won’t go far wrong with this one.Read full review...

Very good phone! Great value for money and enjoyable experience.

I wanted to buy a phone with Android OS, got bored with Apple OS and its inflexibility. I also wanted to buy relatively small and functional phone. Desire S met my expectations, in terms of functionality, ease of use, flexibility (you can plug the phone as a recognizable removable drive), also it is much affordable than other more savvy HTC phones. Its design is very nice, easy to hold and quite strong material. Additionally, the screen is just perfect, as it is not too big or too small. Only con is short battery life.Read full review...

Newest is not always better. This will meet most smartphone needs.

As all the on-line reviews will tell you, this is a phenomenal phone. Since there is already so much info out there I won't rehash it all here and just say a few things about buying one of these phones second hand. I've actually purchased 2 in this manner (the second as a gift). In both cases I was rewarded with sellers that were honest and took care of their phones. In both cases the sellers used the master reset function to restore the operating system to out of the box condition, which anyone can do in the event their sellers fails to do it for you. Accessories are still easy to find and low in price. Replacement batteries, should you need one (neither of the ones I purchased did), are also easy to find at reasonable prices. The only drawback I've found is that android smart phones do not have the capacity for voice dialing via bluetooth. There are a couple of apps for this, but they don't work very well. Aside from this one issue, the apps are plentyful and its easy to find free ones that do most things. This model, while older now, is quick and responsive in terms of moving around the various screens and functions. It connects easily to open WiFi sources, which you can turn off to save power when traveling. The GPS navigation can be used with a 3G connection and Google maps or you can purchase a license from TomTom. The built in music player is quite nice and can be used to AD2P bluetooth. When used in conjunction with Google tools (ie-Calendar, Drive, etc) it's more than a fun toy, but becomes a true tool. For social networkers, Facebook and Twitter are built in, which may be a negative for some as those apps cannot be removed. Overall the money saved by purchasing one of these second hand is huge when compared to purchasing a new model and while it has a slower processesor and older operating system than the newest models its unlikely to impact one's day to day use in any significant way.Read full review...

Great phone, easy to use, small and big enough screen

I have this phone for about 30 days now, and so far only surprizes me everytime I want to do something new. I updated to 2.3.5 via air, and nothing got lost. I don't know if I am doing or the phone is doing everything that I want. Is made for lazy people. Once you setup your personal information, you are done, the rest is up to the phone, you just sit back and relax. Big screen in a small phone, camera is ok, touch screen very accurate and fast. G-sensor and other sensors work very well together and fast.Read full review...

Cheap but very good smartphone. Sadly HTC doesn't make them any more...

Better than previous model HTC Desire - more internal memory. Had to transfer all the programs to SD card on old phone due to low memory. Always was getting low memory notification, it was irritating. And bottom buttons were mechanical, HTC desire s has touch buttons, very useful upgrade. I used to press screen softly, and you would like to press menu buttons softly too, but you can't cause it's mechanical. So New HTC DESIRE S has more internal memory and touch buttons, and these new features are helping me a lot. Battery life not so good, but all the smartphones have the same problem I think.Read full review...
