Great full VR

Understanding this is the first commercial version of VR, HTC did a great job!
After careful set up by instructions I had no problems in setting up my Vive. I had also started downloading lots of free software on Steam as soon as it shipped.
So I was ready to jump into the VR realm. It was impressive. Movement through twleporting seems to be the easiest. Google Earth VR let's you fly, and it seems something like that would be hard to control in a game that was not, in fact, a flying game.
So moving around my cleared and defined area, ducking and weaving while shooting a bow at life sized orcs is almost a dream for an old gamer like me.
It still is not perfect of course, I have found people tend to turn in the same direction so the cord needs to be unwound. And I recommend looping the cord through something like an eye hook by the computer to lessen pulling on the hardware.
There are only a few buttons, so interactions are somewhat limited, but I don't miss it. When you are standing up and moving about, a few buttons is all you need. You can get a decent workout fighting Orcs or Zombies.
Overall I see quote q few up for resale, but mine won't be. My son and I are really enjoying our forays into VR, and I have even bought a few games now. I may have to buy extra foam facepieces. We do get sweaty.
The headset seems kind of heavy when you put it on, but you adjust it and forget fairly quickly.

VR is simply amazing and the HTC Vive is hands down the best device for it...

Steam partnered with HTC, yes the same people that made the popular phones in the early 2000s, to produce the Vive and the result is nothing short of awesome. The quality of the HTC Vive is fantastic, a nice heavy construction that feels solid. The design of the Vive offers comfortable head placement although there is slight forward pressure from the limited head strap configuration, with that said however the Vive offers a modular design allowing for 3rd party accessories to be used in the future such as after market head straps and headphones. Over all I am extremely happy with the Vive and I’m glad I spent the extra money on it over the Oculus. If your looking into VR then I would strongly recommend the HTC Vive as the community behind the Vive, Steam, is taking VR in bold directions by offering stronger 3rd party open development over the now Zuckerberg controlled propriety oculus.Read full review...

Lets you see and do things you never could see or do without one

Disclaimer - I am selling an extra HTC Vive here on eBay in an order that wasn't cancelled (thought it was) when the big billing snafu happened for the first boxes out the door from HTC. But I also have my original Vive from the order that HTC reinstated. I had the Oculus DK2 before that. And I love my Vive!

Virtual reality is an amazing thing. It fools the brain because the brain is so easily fooled. It evolved trusting what it saw as reality. Give it a computer-generated reality and it accepts it. Hook, line, and sinker. I use mine mostly for flight simulation and it puts me in the airplane. You can see everything from the point of view of a real pilot, with full depth perception because this is all in stereo, etc. Your brain even makes you feel it. It's all very odd and strange but you might as well be in an airplane. And crashes are very traumatic. You don't want to crash.

But you can do so much more. It will sound odd if you don't already know what I'm talking about, but you can battle other players from all over the world on hovering platforms, you can experiment with spawning planets and stars and watch their orbits and collisions, you can stand on the sea floor and watch schools of luminous jellyfish drift by, you can fight space robots like Han Solo, you can paint/sculpt in 3D, you can try to repair robots, shoot arrows at marauding hordes, throw sticks for robot dogs on top of a mountain, etc. It's all amazing and fantastic and just the weirdest thing you have ever seen. There is one application called Audio Shield where you try to block colored orbs coming at you to the beat of music. You get quite a bit of exercise without even realizing it because it is just so fun. You can stand, walk around, turn, etc - all without motion sickness. Or, if racing cars or flying planes, you can sit. Or not. It works great standing, sitting, crouching, and even laying down.

I know it sounds crazy, but if you try it, you'll see. Virtual reality is not like anything you have ever experienced because it is limited only by the imagination of the people writing the applications for it. You'll see. I'm totally sold on it. Big time.

Best Experience ever

First off i’m not just an average reviewer i never review stuff but this is amazing you can’t get the vr experience without actually being in it. it feels so much different, so far best games to play are pavlov, superhot, and beat saber. All fantastic games and i’m sure there’s so many more. There’s just something so amazing about shooting an enemy (real life player) 5 times in the chest then pulling the rifle off your back and reloading it /priming it with realistic controls. 10/10 would recommend!Read full review...

A Great VR headset

Made even better by a 2017 gear VR lens swap! A $10 upgrade that really improves this headset. Vive controls are a great and came with some silicone covers for them.

I love VR.

When I first tried VR at a party I was skeptical, but after going through four fights of 3 rounds each in “thrill of the fight” I was bathed in sweat. I knew then that I had found my new workout. The fact is that “working out” involves “working” but with VR it’s more like playing, than working.Read full review...

Fun!

This was a gift to my son for his birthday. He loves it. I was so glad to find a very nice, gently used one for a good price.

Great beginner headset.

It's a great entry level headset and it does a great job playing most games. The only problem is that it's not great for any kind of shooter game as the d-pad doesn't work well.
