Fabulous fun!!

Love the original Hairspray! I’ve always felt it was better than the musical but that’s my opinion. If you like John Waters and Baltimore themed movies this one is a classic!

Authentic 60's Music, Dance, Fashion - NOT THE MUSICAL VERSION - watchable

The date above is 2002 on this DVD...movie is from a couple decades earlier. My family LOVES the later version of this title, the movie made around 1995ish, With John Travolta and Michelle Pfeifer, which is a real MUSICAL.
This earlier movie, though interesting for it's original story, authentic 60's music, great fashion moments, good dancing, and interesting cast members make this watchable. D. Harry is disappointing, but Rick Ocasic is amazing in his cameo. Divine didn't make many movies - has two roles in this (one male, one female), Jerry Stiller always a hoot. Sonny Bono interesting to see, but acting is stiff now and then from everyone.

Love it!

Always have loved the original "Hairspray" with all the original cast! Especially Divine! She is such a hoot! If you haven't seen the original, ya gotta! Sorry, John! No one can top Divine, no pun intended! She has starred in many other off the wall, B-rated movies and is just hillarious to watch! She is an original drag queen, waaay b 4 Rupaul! (Love ya, too, Ru!) Careful with children present, though! She's a bit blunt! Remake of this film is pretty good, consideing, but ya just can't top an original cult classic like this 1! HIGHLY recomend for mature audience with a fabulous sense of humor! Read full review...

Walk down memory lane!

I ordered the Hairspray DVD simply because I used to work at one of the locations it was filmed at (Tilted Acres). The story is a good one, and deals with teenage angst and racism of the '60s. Lots of the cast have passed on, but have memorable roles in the movie. Good times! Read full review...

Hairspray DVD

I bought this movie for my 11 year old daughter for Christmas. She had been bugging me about it and I had her believing she wouldn't be able to get it, as none of the major chain stores carried this DVD. I knew Ebay would have it, and checked when she first bought it up.

I bought this DVD early in December and got it before Christmas. It was advertised as new and unused. When it came in the mail, it was in a plastic wrapper and appeared new, but when I shook the DVD case, I could hear something moving around in there. I was worried that the disk was broken. I had to wait till Christmas though to find out.

When my daughter opened the present, she was very happy. I was still worried and I had her give me the DVD case so I could open it. I didn't want her dissappointed if the DVD was broken. When I opened the DVD case, the DVD was intact, but it wasn't secured in the case. I looked at it and there wasn't any scratches visible. I gave it back to her and she was very happy with this present.

I was still worried though, that when she played the DVD, that it would skip.
I didn't have to wait long, she watched the movie that night, and it played perfectly. She has watched the movie a few times since then, and no problems.

I was very happy with this purchase. A few worries, but I blame the Postal Service for that. Everything turned out fine.

A fun movie if you came of age during 1960's; great memories hearing those old songs

great music and dance of the 1960s, nice stroll down memory lane; a light-hearted exposure of the integration/segregation issues of the time
