Hamburger Hill

One of the more realistic depictions of Grunts fighting in Vietnam. Based on an actual campaign, you are shown how difficult it was to fight a well entrenched enemy in the famous A Shau Valley (leading from Laos into northern I Corps in South Vietnam-south of the infamous Khe Sanh). The movie has some of Hollywoods' obligatory anti-war message, but overall it is an excellent rendition of combat in very difficult conditions. There is actual footage available of the end of this campaign when the Grunts are on top of the hill showing much comraderie - the movie reinvents this scene into one of a feeling of uselessness (Don't mean nothin') and hopelessness, and another Hollywood anti-war touch. Enjoy the battle, ignore the leftist rhetoric (found in almost all movies depicting the Vietnam era). I was a Marine REMF serving nearby during this battle-we lost nine of our company near this hill.Read full review...

Hamburger Hill

The horrors of the Vietnam War come brutally to life through the
eyes of 14 American soldiers of a platoon of Bravo Company that
are ordered to be part of the assault to take HILL 937 in Vietnam
in March 1969. This movie is based on true events that occured
during the 10 days that it took to take the hill, a mud covered
mound of earth so named because it chews up soldiers on both sides
like chopped meat. This is a gritty and totally unrelenting dramatic
depiction of one of the fiercest battles of the War. It shows the
assault in a realistic manner and shows the type of fighting that
ocurred during the battle. Dylan McDermott, Don Ceadie, Steven
Weber and Courtney B. star in the movie and do an excellent job of
acting. Director John Irvin has had several hits with war movie
efforts (When Trumpets Fade-HBO Tv production & The Dogs of War)
and has shown great ability with other types of movies-(Next of Kin
with Patrick Swayze & Ghost Story)--and he does a masterful job during
the directing of this movie. War movie lovers, Vietnam veterans, action
and & adventure devotees all will enjoy this movie, and for most it will
give a good night of entertainment too.

Hamburger Hill, a whopper

A very more interesting story of soldiers, on the eve of battle and fighting. Very good digital sound! It will blow you away. As to the story, I found it to be more realistic than say, we were soldiers, there is too much cursing as usual to give it the "macho" look, and I hate when they play music during battles, hollywood tries to hard to appeal to that older generation. Let the fighting speak for itself!Read full review...
