Haze (Playstation 3)

Haze was beat up pretty well by all of the profesional reviewers. I on the other hand enjoyed this title by Ubisoft very much. The story is: you are a guy named Carpenter working as a soldier for a company called Mantel. Mantel makes this revolutionary drug called Nectar that enhances a persons abaility to heal and perform in combat. What mantel doesn't tell the soldiers that are working for them is the drug is highly adictive and alters a persons view of reality and after longer term use of the drug it will cause you to die a painful death. Rebels are stealing Mantels Nectar so you are sent in to stop the rebels from stealing the nectar. The rebels want to destroy the nectar because they are aware of the side effects. The first 1/4 of the game you play as a Mantel soldier killing rebels. I enjoyed this part of the game because you can self administer Nectar and your targets are lit up and glow and is fun and easy to target and hit. Of course the rest of the game you grow a concious and realize that Mantel is a corupt corporation. After this you no longer can use Nectar. The rest of the game is fun just not the same without nectar. However the rest of the game does make up for this in other aspects. The game is rated mature and even though I am not a believer in the video game is killing our youth movement. I would strongly suggest evaluating this game if a younger person will be playing this game. There are scenes of mass graves and dead soldiers and the usually blood and alot of cursing as well as suecide. The graphics are great as you would expect. The controls are completely mapable which I like. Checkpoints are easily achieved so your next save point is always close. The weapons selection is good, however you can only have 2 weapons at one particular time. The amo situation is sometimes frustrating. Someties it will collect amo automaticaly and sometimes you have to collect it yourself. There are vehicles but they are pointless and take away from the game. The enemy and squad A.I is inconsistent. Sometimes your squad is helpfull and sometimes not as well with the enemies A.I. sometimes they are very aggresive and sometimes they just sit there for you to kill. But all in all in thought it worked well. This game offers about 30hrs of play per level. The voice overs are very annoying it's always the same thing over and over again at some point you almost want your squad to get killed just to shut them up. I only encountered 1 bug in the game and that was close to the end. So all in all not a great game but a solid game and well worth the time you spend on it. As far a s value I would never buy it at full price but @$30 is a good value.Read full review...

Haze (Playstation 3)

This game is rated above average/good. I expected a little more action and fun. The game characters are wanna be gangsters. They cuss like their from the hood. I was surprised that Sony would let a game maker company use foul language. This system is played by younger kids as well....The game graphics are fair by not HD. The game controls are tuff at times. Especially when you want to drive the vehicles/ trucks in the game. You are required to push the square button option. It takes awhile before you are able to jump into the truck and drive off. I should have waited and rented this game. The TV commercial made the game look better than it really is.Read full review...

Juice And Shoot! BOOSH!

Haze is a fun, if flawed game. Developed by Free Radical(now Crytek UK) and published by Ubisoft. Haze's story is interesting and well done, though after you join the rebels it slows down and stops being interesting. Haze's story follows a Mantel solider Shane Carpenter, he goes into the war with the dream of being a hero, but he shortly learns that Mantel isn't there for the war and just there to make money. Shane then joins the rebels and uses eveything he learned against them. Both sides have there own unique abilities and are fun to use. Haze's single player campaign is unfortunetly a few hours long and the AI is... somewhat stupid since they hardly use there abilities. Haze also features 2-4 player drop-in and out co-op which makes the game much more fun, if easier. Haze also has 2-16 online multiplayer, which works nice as you can play as one of the two sides. The main flaw with the online multiplayer though is the lack of many online modes since there are only 3( the 4th one must be downloaded from the Playstation store). I also don't like how some of the new map packs have just pretty much re-released maps with different times of day(Rolling Thunder, Caves At Night, Red Dawn just to name a few). Nonetheless Haze is an enjoyable FPS while it lasts. I would say rent the game first though to see if you like it.Read full review...

Worth a look.

A rare two player game and worth having if you have some one you want to be able to play a good shooter game with. The car is a little funky to drive, I find myself driving over cliffs on accident quite often. I find the using of a drug in order to boost power including speed and aiming sort of realistic as far as playing an actually military soldier because I could see our government doing such a thing to our guys. However the drugs ability to light up your targets like an x-mas tree comes in very handy just dont let yourself become overly dependent on it or you will find yourself losing control and going into a sort of Berserker mode where you shoot anything that moves if you want to or not. I have not reached the end of the game yet so i cant comment much further than this right now.Read full review...

good value, no 4-player split screen mode :(

Before this game was released they advertised it as having up to 4-player split screen mode. Apparently the game designers had a change of heart and nixed the 4 player. If you read reviews on the internet this game gets bad reviews. For this reason I believe the price is artificially low, and you actually get a lot of bang for your buck with this game. Its kind of like PS3's version of Halo. If it had the 4 player split screen I would say it was better than Halo 3. When my buddies come over and we all want to game at the same time we have to play Resistance, as ps3 really doesn't have any other first person 4 player split screen games, at least not that I am aware of.Read full review...

Haze--good not great

I bought this game as I am a fan of shooters in general and I got a good deal here on e-bay. I have to say; I am not that impressed with this game. The controls arent bad; the story line is ok; the sound is mediocre. The gameplay is ok; not much there to keep me interested in continuing on throughout the game. I have played many other shooters; Resistance 1 & 2; Resident evil 5; Uncharted; Drakes fortune and several others and while all these games were enjoyable play throughs; this one just didn't hold my interest. Again; it isn't bad; just not greatRead full review...

Haze for PlayStation 3

I bought this game so i could have something to do during my vacations. The game overall is pretty good, I just loved how you could actually log into the network and play the entire game with friends or with other persons from the world as your team mates and assistants throughout the entire game. The game has a lot of cursing, blood and junkies that keep you in your license to kill attitude and this was something fun for me because i have a few friends that are junkies and i wish at times i could shoot them... this game gave me just that!!! Overall if you're a good player you should be done with this game in just a few hours but it's still worth the few bucks, online and network gaming rules!Read full review...

Haze is much better than what many claim

This game gets a bad rap from many people mainly because of the 3rd grader dialog but fail to tell you only the first 20 minutes of the game is plagued with this foolishness.
After your character switches sides and fights against the foul mouths, the extremely juvenile cross chatter is reduced significantly.
Haze is not on par with say, MetalGear 4 to be sure, yet it is a solid shooter on a system (PS3) soiled with mediocre shooting games.
I recently purchased a PS3 system and as far as the hardware and Sony support, (Xbox Live counterpart) the PS3 cannot be beat. I was a devout 360 fanboy but no more.
Games like Resistance 1+2 have severe problems as well, yet rate high on review scales, and in my opinion are unwarranted, while Haze is minimalized unjustly.

At 16.95 brand new on Ebay, this game is a worthy contender for any collector.

I hope this helps!

Decent game but could have been great.

In a gaming world filled with cookie cutter shooters you need to go the extra mile to set yourself apart. Sadly, Haze has failed to do so. Corny, ridiculous comments abound from Mantel forces. Further hindering a less than profound gaming experience. Maybe I expect too much but if I'm going to take a shooter game seriously I would rather not hear my squad mates saying things like, "Is there an award for the most bada** gansta? Cause thats me." Things like that cause me to lose my ability to care what happens to my squad. The controls are fairly solid and the game has an interesting premise but, with a little more creative effort I feel Haze could have been a much better title.
I will say that after you defect over to the rebels the game improves considerably but it still could have been much more than an average shooter.

HAZE (PSP3)

Game play is good despite other's complaints. Texturing and game itself are dark and - very good. Keeps you captivated. Game does require you to constantly back track in a maze type environment which can become frustrating at times. Graphics (Explosions, weapons, bullet strikes) are all excellent.
Don't Like: Constant annoying dialog offered by the characters- constant meaning they say the SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN! "DON'T forget your promise to Moreno" ARGH - I'd like to place the fool who wrote that clap in a room and force him to listen to just that dialog over and over and over again for hours. Now do it again because the check points often require you to redo hazard zones which lead to your demise until you "figure out" how to handle the zone. Death to........
Overall a great $30 game. A so-so $40 game and an annoyance if you paid full boat - like I DID! Death to ..........
